Anthony Bourdain Kills the Pig for a New Orleans Feast on 'No Reservations' (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Aug 30th 2011 6:45PM
Anthony Bourdain waits to give the pig the good news on 'No Reservations'Anthony Bourdain is usually good at uncovering the details most other people might miss, and he didn't shirk that duty in his New Orleans episode of 'No Reservations' (Mondays, 9PM on Travel Channel). He showed the politics of the city with the help of 'Treme' writer Lolis Elie, the community effort that goes into a public feast, and even took part in killing the pig for pork.

'Treme' is often a political show, by necessity, and you can see where that voice comes from listening to Elie. "How can our chefs and our musicians be less vital to the national interest than whatever's going on in Iraq and Afghanistan or halfway around the world," he said. When it came time, Bourdain did not flinch from dispatching the pig with a pistol. "That's the way they taught me in Jersey," he said.

Anthony Bourdain and Josh Homme Punish Jethro Tull on 'No Reservations' (VIDEO)

by Catherine Lawson, posted Aug 9th 2011 9:20AM
Anthony Bourdain and Josh HommeAnthony Bourdain is a huge music fan and this week he devoted an entire episode of 'No Reservations' (Mon., 9PM ET on TRAV) to hanging out with Josh Homme and the Queens of the Stone Age at Rancho de la Luna, their recording studio in the California desert.

It turns out that Bourdain and the guys have a long-standing grudge against the Grammy voting panel for what they deem an unforgivable lapse over 20 years ago.

As Bourdain puts it, an "ageing, clueless and increasingly incontinent Grammys judging panel" controversially awarded the 1989 Grammy for Best Hard Rock and Metal record to British prog rockers Jethro Tull.

Anthony Bourdain on Food, Sex, and the American Dream on 'Real Time With Bill Maher' (VIDEO)

by Mike Moody, posted Aug 8th 2011 12:31AM
real time bourdainWould you rather have a great meal or mediocre sex? That's one of the questions Bill Maher lobbed at Anthony Bourdain during the latest episode of 'Real Tim With Bill Maher' (Fri., 10PM ET on HBO).

The noted chef, author and 'No Reservations' star dropped by Maher's show to chat about food, sex and everything else that's currently inhabiting his headspace.

Bourdain joined Maher and filmmaker Stephen K. Bannon, astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, and journalist Joan Walsh on a panel to discuss the current state of the American Dream.

Anthony Bourdain Describes the Illegal Ortolan Dish on 'Colbert Report' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Aug 5th 2011 4:41AM
Anthony Bourdain, 'The Colbert Report'Anthony Bourdain has experienced a lot of things and eaten a lot of exotic dishes throughout his career, but he may have peaked his unique culinary experiences with ortolan. Stephen Colbert just had to ask him about the protected bird dish on 'The Colbert Report' (Weeknights, 11:30PM ET on Comedy Central).

It was interesting that the eating of this bird, which some say is endangered, comes with it an entire ritual dating back hundreds of years. But the actual ingestion could be a bit too much for less adventurous palates.

"You take it by the head and stick it in your mouth and crunch down into the body, bones guts and all," he said. "It's sort of a hot rush of fat, guts, bones, blood and meat and it's really delicious."

Anthony Bourdain's 'Top Chef' Blog Might Be More Entertaining Than 'Top Chef'

by Joel Keller, posted Dec 13th 2010 6:00PM
Anthony Bourdain on 'Top Chef: All-Stars'Near the end of season seven of 'Top Chef,' I lobbied for Anthony Bourdain to be named a permanent judge for the upcoming season. What I didn't know, of course, was that the producers already had that in the works for the season eight's all-star tilt. The move has worked so far; Tony has only been in one of the first two episodes, but he's already been outspoken enough to mix it up with fan favorite Fabio Viviani.

But one thing that I didn't anticipate would be a side benefit of Bourdain's permanent return to the show was that Bourdain's 'Top Chef' blog on Bravotv.com would also be back. And, boy, is it entertaining. In fact, the blog might just be more entertaining than the show itself.

Why so? Well, anyone who's read any of his books (especially the one he's most known for, 'Kitchen Confidential'), read his Travel Channel blog or even listened to his narration on his show 'No Reservations' knows that Bourdain is as proficient with a keyboard as he is with a saute pan. But in his 'Top Chef' blog, Bourdain applies his caustic writerly skills to not only the cheftestants and their dishes, but to the show itself.

The Show Girl's Got Scoop on 'Top Chef All Stars,' 'The Fran Drescher Tawk Show' & 'Glory Daze' (VIDEO)

by Maggie Furlong, posted Nov 19th 2010 10:00AM
I seriously cannot wait for 'Top Chef All Stars.' Seeing cheftestants from seasons past, going head-to-head to prove they deserved to win is my idea of good TV. Add new judge Anthony Bourdain to that equation and I'm practically giddy. I caught up with Tony and head judge Tom Colicchio to find out who's changed the most, and who they'd want to hang out with outside of the show.

Plus, fans of 'The Nanny' can stop watching their box sets on a loop -- Fran Drescher is back on TV with a new daytime talk show. Excuse me, tawk show. So who's her dream guest? Well let's just say she's aiming pretty high ...

I also get totally '80s with the stars of 'Glory Daze.' What's their stance on the bright clothes and crazy hairstyles? And what would their characters' '80s theme songs be? Yep, making people sing on the spot is never not entertaining.

'Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations' and More New TV DVD Releases

by Elizabeth Chan, posted Sep 28th 2010 10:00AM
Anthony Bourdain: No ReservationsAnthony Bourdain has the best gig on the planet. Period.

In the Travel Channel's 'No Reservations,' he's expected to visit distant lands, share authentic cuisines with local friends and drink heavily on the job. He's been doing this for six seasons and there seems to be no end in sight. Unlike his Travel Channel brethren who are expected to eat bugs for their meal tickets, Bourdain never does what he doesn't want to do.

But it's hard to be truly jealous of the man without witnessing it for yourself. Today the fifth installment of 'No Reservations' comes out on DVD. Find out why your job sucks by watching the man in action today.

Other honorable mentions hitting DVD shelves today are the final season of 'Scrubs' and the first season of 'The Cleveland Show.'

Find out the rest of the new releases after the jump!

Why 'Top Chef' Judge Eric Ripert Should Be Replaced With Anthony Bourdain

by Joel Keller, posted Sep 2nd 2010 5:01PM
Eric Ripert and Anthony Bourdain judge 'Top Chef' - 'Gastro-nauts'
People haven't been overly kind to 'Top Chef' this season. Either they think the cheftestants are inept, the Washington, DC locale is uninspiring, the guest politicians are annoying or, like me, they think the show has just become stale and predictable.

But something else has come up recently that's been bugging me: the judging. Not so much what 'Top Chef' vets Padma Lakshmi and Tom Colicchio are doing; they're taking the same reasoned approach they always do. And when Gail Simmons is there, her criticism has always been constructive and kind.

No, I'm mostly looking at new judge Eric Ripert when I think the judging has suffered this year. He may be one of the greatest chefs and restaurateurs on the planet, but as a 'Top Chef' judge, he makes me long for the days when the oh-so-quippy Toby Young was subbing for Gail. Why do I think he's been so bad this year? Read on for my list of grievances...

Rating 10 TV Chefs: Who Would You Want Teaching You How to Cook?

by Allison Waldman, posted Jul 27th 2010 7:00PM
gordon_ramsay_masterchef_foxIf you're a bit of a foodie, you probably watch a lot of TV chefs. There are a bunch of them, all over the dial, sharing their knowledge of food and how to prepare dishes -- whether it's a bowl of chili or a beef Wellington. Tonight, for example, Fox's resident chef Gordon Ramsay will be launching a new cooking show called 'MasterChef.' (Not to be confused with 'Top Chef.')

'MasterChef' (9PM ET, Fox) is based on the Australian version of the show -- not the BBC model -- in which a large group of hopefuls from across the country audition with their best dish, and if they pass the judges, they move on to the semi-finals.

But have you ever thought about which of the celebrity cooks and chefs on television you'd want to teach you? We took 10 popular TV chefs and rated their teaching abilities from 1-10 -- 10 being the best possible teacher, 1 being the worst. Let us know if you agree with our ratings ...

Anthony Bourdain Guests on 'Yo Gabba Gabba!' Really!

by Joel Keller, posted Feb 24th 2010 4:38PM
It's not a stretch to say that anyone who's watched Anthony Bourdain on his various cable shows has either wanted to be his drinking buddy or slug him right in the mouth, a feeling that usually changes from hour to hour.

He reminds me of those friends I had in college who would stop listening to bands the second their videos were played on '120 Minutes' or they somehow made it past the confines of college radio. But at the same time, the guy seems like he'd be fun as hell to hang out with, where a visit with him always ensured you of great food, great drink, and great conversation.

So it's with great amusement that I give you the following clip, which is Bourdain playing "Doctor Tony" on Nickelodeon's fantastically trippy kids' show 'Yo Gabba Gabba!'. It's a preview of his guest stint, which is set to air on March 10:
