Gene Simmons Is Indeed 'Smarter Than a 5th Grader' (VIDEO)
by Aimee Deeken, posted May 10th 2010 5:29AM
His decades as a member of KISS haven't provided Gene Simmons with much interaction with fifth graders (thankfully). But that didn't deter him from appearing on 'Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?,' nor hinder his raising a record amount for charity in the process. [Spoiler alert.]
Mark Burnett to Take Over 'HGTV Design Star': How Will He Redesign It?
by Chris O'Connell, posted Dec 4th 2009 12:43PM
'Survivor' producer Mark Burnett will take over the reigns at 'HGTV Design Star' from 495 Prods, the Hollywood Reporter confirms. The British producer will be expected to "infuse [the show] with fresh perspective and innovative ideas that will serve as a blueprint for a successful fifth season," according to HGTV senior vice president of programming Freddy James.
Burnett introduced competition-based reality programming to American audiences. In addition to his work on 'Survivor,' Burnett has produced everything from 'Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader,' to 'The Apprentice' to MTV's 'Bully Beatdown.'
In 2007, his work on 'Survivor' won him an Emmy for Outstanding Non-Fiction Program (Special Class).
'Design Star,' which just wrapped its fourth season in September, is a bit of a departure from Burnett's resume. Which means he may have to spruce it up a little to compete with the intensity of his other shows.
Fox and Mark Burnett Team Up for 'Our Little Genius'
by Elizabeth Chan, posted Nov 12th 2009 11:30AM
Are you or your family in need of life changing money? Do you have a 6-12 year old with mental capacity that might make you constantly question his or her genetics? Well, lucky for you Fox just announced a brand new game show called 'Our Little Genius.' Take your own little prodigy to the next contestant open call and you may be on the road to making some big bucks off of your child's big brain. How much money? According to the show's producers it's up to the parents -- but promises to be in the at least hundreds of thousands of dollars category! (Read: No official sponsor for the show yet.)
'Days of Our Lives' Star Bryan Dattilo Matches Wits On '5th Grader'
by Michael Maloney, posted Nov 2nd 2009 3:00PM
Bryan Dattilo's had to out-think crafty Sami Brady on 'Days of our Lives' for years; now he's trying to outsmart a bunch of 11-year-olds on 'Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader,' the syndicated game show hosted by Jeff Foxworthy.
"I had never seen the show before but my brother is a big fan of Jeff and his 'jerky' jokes," said Dattilo, who has played Lucas Roberts on 'Days' since 1993. The actor didn't have to go through the rigorous pre-test that regular potential contestants do (believe us, it's not easy), but he caught a few episodes in the green room prior to taping. He talked to AOL about the '5th Grader' experience, plus what's next for Lucas on 'DOOL.'

Will you watch the Game Show Awards?
by Bob Sassone, posted Apr 17th 2009 1:16PM
If you go by all of the various stories in the media, it would seem that TV viewers just aren't into award shows anymore. The ratings are often down year to year, and if people are tuning in it seems to be more for the fashions, the red carpet, and maybe to see a particular category/performance by someone on the show.So it's interesting that there are so many new genre award shows popping up. TV Land has had their own awards (The TV Land Awards) for a number of years now (the latest airs next week with Neil Patrick Harris hosting), and Bravo has The A-List Awards, whatever they are (it aired earlier this week). Now GSN is getting into the game (no pun intended) with The Game Show Awards, a show dedicated to giving awards to game shows, game show hosts, even game show sponsors!
