Aretha Franklin Performs New Song on 'Today' (VIDEO)

This spring, Aretha Franklin released her 38th studio album, 'A Woman Falling Out of Love.' Monday on 'Today' (weekdays, 7AM on NBC), the Queen of Soul performed the first single from the album, 'How Long I've Been Waiting,' and chatted with Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb afterwards.'How Long I've Been Waiting' is a romantic ballad with an 80s Top 40 feel, lush with synths and a plinking piano. Franklin sang, "You're touching, yes, and I'm blushing" while Gifford and Kotb swayed back and forth at the side of the stage, as if they were at a high school dance.
Aretha Franklin Offers Love Advice on 'The View' (VIDEO)

There's probably no one better suited than Aretha Franklin, the woman who first sang 'Respect' more than four decades ago, to give advice on love. On 'The View' (weekdays, syndicated), Franklin offered guidance to women currently in relationships gone sour."Don't sit at home by the telephone," said Franklin. "Put on a happy face because it ain't going to rain."

Christina Aguilera is having a rough February. In two major television events, she's had a slip-up of one kind or another. At 'The 53rd Annual Grammy Awards' (Sun., 8PM ET on CBS), it was of the literal variety. And it was at the top of the show.The Grammys kicked off with a lengthy tribute to Aretha Franklin featuring Aguilera, Jennifer Hudson, Martina McBride, Florence Welch and Yolanda Adams. Luckily for Aguilera, her fall didn't happen during the lengthy musical tribute.
But as the camera was panning back and the women were repositioning themselves for their bow, you could clearly see Aguilera slip and fall to the stage. It might not have been so noticeable if her hair wasn't so brightly blonde.
Bob Dylan to Perform at the Grammys With Mumford & Sons

Music legend Bob Dylan will perform at the Grammy Awards Sunday night, joining previously announced veteran headliners Mick Jagger and Barbra Streisand.It will be Dylan's fifth appearance at the Grammys, and organizers said he will perform with up-and coming young Brits, Mumford & Sons, and folk-rock band the Avett Brothers, in a special salute to acoustic music.
But it won't be all folksy Sunday night: Get ready for Dr. Dre's first live television performance in more than 10 years. The rapper will be performing in a "special collaboration" with multiple nominee Eminem and Maroon 5 front-man Adam Levine.
'Christmas in Rockefeller Center': Shakira, Rockettes Celebrate the Tree Lighting

Despite less-than-perfect weather and a threatened labor strike, last night's 'Christmas in Rockefeller Center' went off without a hitch and featured the 77th annual lighting of New York's iconic Rockefeller Christmas tree, as well as performances by Aretha Franklin, Barry Manilow, Shakira, Michael Buble and the Rockettes, among others.Co-hosted by Jane Krakowski of '30 Rock' and Zachary Levi of 'Chuck,' the special culminated in the lighting of this year's tree, which stands at a towering 76 feet high and is adorned with more than 25,000 multicolored bulbs. Watch our clip for a sample of the performance by the Rockettes, a peek at Shakira's rendition of 'Santa Baby' and a look at the tree lighting itself.

TV Moment of 2009: Obama's Inauguration ... and Aretha's Hat

As we near the end of 2009, we look back at the biggest moments on TV from this year. Our inaugural entry, as it were: The historic swearing-in of Barack Obama on Jan. 20 ... and the debut of the most talked-about hat of the year (if not the decade).
It was history in the making: An African-American became President of the United States. Over 37 million viewers -- including you, most likely -- watched the inauguration on CNN's live stream, according to Nielsen.
After cheers and tears (remember Stewart and Colbert choking up on election night?), it was time for Barack Obama to take the oath of office. In a stirring inaugural address, the new President pledged leadership that would "reaffirm our enduring spirit." Inauguration participants included cellist YoYo Ma, violinist Itzhak Perlman, and clergymen Joseph Lowery and Rick Warren; poet Elizabeth Alexander offered "Praise Song for the Day.'

On the second night of the 25th Anniversary Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Concert, which was taped in October at Madison Square Garden and aired yesterday on HBO, Annie Lennox joined Aretha Franklin onstage while wearing a t-shirt reading "HIV Positive." Lennox, who reportedly wore the shirt as a way to raise awareness of HIV and AIDS, joined the Queen of Soul for a rendition of her 1967 hit 'Chain of Fools.' Watch the video after the jump.
What's ticking me off about The Mentalist

After last season's success of The Mentalist, I made a point of watching the show this season. I wanted to see if vox populi was right and this was must-see TV. Well, now that I've tuned in for a few episodes, my opinion of the show remains the same as when I previewed the pilot in 2008. It's a star vehicle for Simon Baker. He's wonderful in the role and commands the screen.
However, since watching this season, there's one major thing about The Mentalist that's ticking me off. Aretha Franklin sang about it: R-E-S-P-E-C-T.
Dancing With The Stars: Week 9 results

(S07E19) The big question coming into the results show this week, obviously, was who would make it through to the finals. That, on its own, was probably enough to get most of the crowd to tune in. The powers that be could have just banked on it and tossed any old random segment out there to fill up the first 50 minutes of the show. Some Jimmy Kimmel here... a highlight reel there... the numbers would have still been huge. Lucky for us, that's not what they did, at all. It was the biggest musical event the show has ever seen. Along with those big results, we saw performances from Leona Lewis, John Legend, Julianne Hough, and the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin. If that wasn't enough, reigning champ Kristi Yamaguchi stopped by to dance. It made for a fun hour. The results, and a look at all of those performances, after the jump.
Simon Cowell bashes Dylan, praises Clarkson

In a recent interview with Playboy, outspoken American Idol judge, Simon Cowell, bashed musical icon, Bob Dylan, saying he "bores me to tears." Cowell often berates the young unknowns vying for Idol-status on the hit reality show, causing some of them to dissolve into tears or lash out in angry tirades. I'm pretty sure, however, that Dylan isn't going to be shedding any tears over Cowell's disapproval. The man, while not my cup of tea, is a musical legend, past needing praise and approval from the snippy, British TV-judge in order to sell CDs.Also in the Playboy interview, Cowell praised Idol's very own Kelly Clarkson, comparing her to "a young Aretha Franklin". Not surprisingly, Cowell said he preferred Clarkson's music to that of Dylan's. Meanwhile, millions of Dylan fans everywhere are asking themselves "Who the hell is Kelly Clarkson?"
