John K selling art on his blog

by Adam Finley, posted Apr 5th 2006 3:33PM
john kricfalusiI've been spending an insane amount of time over on John Kricfalusi's blog, and the other day I saw this post which I thought some of you might find interesting. It seems John has been hooked up with a gallery and plans to sell some original pieces through his blog. My excitement over this was instantly dilluted by the notion that I'll probably never be able to come up with the kind of money these drawings will most likely take in. John K, to get the unenlightened up to speed, was the creator of Ren and Stimpy, and has worked alongside such animation legends as Ralph Bakshi. The man is an icon in the world of animation (and a very opinionated one at that). Seeing him embrace the whole blog concept and interact so freely with his fans is quite refreshing, and his genuine enthusiasm for animation, style, and design, not to mention his expertise, makes his blog worth checking out.

Pro-lifers don't like pro-life Britney statue

by Adam Finley, posted Mar 29th 2006 1:31PM

britney spearsSeriously, is no one ever happy? It seems like a man can't sculpt an image of Britney Spears on a bearskin rug squeezing out her first born son without everyone getting all worked up about it, even those you thought were on your side. You see, artist Daniel Edwards created "Monument To Pro-Life: The Birth of Sean Preston" as an homage to the young mother, citing her bravery in choosing to put her baby ahead of her career. The problem is, Edwards' fellow pro-lifers don't like the sculpture very much, given Britney's rather provocative pose, which is, I'm assuming, not the most comfortable position for giving birth, unless you happen to be a pack mule. But it's not just pro-life groups who are taking umbrage to Edwards' masterpiece; the animal rights group PETA isn't happy with the bearskin rug Brit is birthing upon, either. Okay, so his little art project didn't quite make the statement he intended, big deal. If nothing else, he should be honored that he actually got two groups who probably tend to lean opposite directions politically to agree on at least one thing. That's a grand achievement in itself.
