caprica pilot DVDHere's more proof that Sci Fi Channel loves nerds – and their money. A limited edition "uncut and unrated" version of the Caprica pilot will be released on DVD April 21. That means fans can get an early look at the Battlestar Galactica prequel series starring Eric Stoltz and Esai Morales, which is slated to premiere on Sci Fi in 2010. The DVD list price is $26.98, according to Sci Fi. Great news, right? It gets better.

Because of the early DVD release, fans might get a chance to influence the development of the series. In a release, Mark Stern, Executive VP of Original Programming for Sci Fi, says the DVD release "affords the creative team an unprecedented chance to get viewers feedback before production on the Caprica series begins this summer."

Jericho and Supernatural producers team up for Showtime's Syns

tricia helfer battelstar galactica sixThat zany Cylon god just answered some lucky fanboy's prayers. Showtime is developing Syns, a sci-fi drama about a world in which humans create synthetic life forms for "various purposes." Since Showtime is the pay cable network that gave us Californication, The L Word and Debbie Does Dallas Again, I'm guessing several of those "purposes" might fall under the TV-MA category. All those Battlestar Galactica fans who ever wished to see more than just a sexy cyborg's glowing spine can start anticipating this show .... now!

Syns was originally developed in the UK by Clerkenwell Films under the name Doll's Hospital, which probably sounded too much like Dollhouse for a run in the U.S. The series will be set in a dealership and workshop where the synthetic organisms, or Syns, are sold as luxury items, Clerkenwell chief exec Murray Ferguson told Broadcast Now. Jericho consulting producer John McNamara and Supernatural producer/writer Sera Gamble are developing the series.

MeeVee: get your TV/online video listings all in one place

by Brad Linder, posted Feb 9th 2007 10:32AM
MeeVee at its most basic level is a web site offering personalized TV guides. You select your favorite progams, and MeeVee will let you know when they're on. It will also examine your taste in TV shows, movies, genres, and actors and let you know when programs you might want to watch are on.

Now MeeVee has added online video search to the mix, locating videos on YouTube and network web sites that relate to your preferences. So if you select BattleStar Galactica, you can find out when the next episode is on and you can also watch video clips and fan-made videos all in one place. Well, sort of in one place. MeeVee actually has separate tabs for "On TV," "Network Video," and "Community Video." And seeing as how a lot of the content on sites like YouTube is video clips uploaded by users, there's really not much difference between the Network Video and Community video sections.

That said, I like where this is going. I'm not sure there'd be a better way to integrate online video and television listings. But I like that you can select "comedy" as an interest and receive information on upcoming comedy programs and links to funny videos online.
