Saturday Night Live: Ben Affleck/David Cook - VIDEOS

(S34E07) Although I have fond memories of Mango and Ben Who-fleck working Saturday Night Live together back in the day, I was pretty disappointed by this episode. I think someone told Ben Affleck that he's pretty all right on SNL and it got to his head, because he was trying way, way too hard. It was almost to the point where it was unbearably awkward. If not for Senator John McCain's appearances, this episode would have been wholly unremarkable. I mean, apart from its super-weakness.
Is Affleck going to spoof Olbermann tonight?
Ben Affleck is the host of Saturday Night Live tonight, which will also feature an appearance by Senator John McCain. No word on what McCain is going to do on the show, but it would be fantastic if he could appear in the sketch where Affleck plays Keith Olbermann.Yup, Politico.com is reporting that the NBC show is finally going to spoof the MSNBC host. In fact, they are going to portray Olbermann as (and I quote from the article) "a deranged person living at home with his mother." Sources on the set say that somehow the real Olbermann got past security yesterday afternoon and watched Affleck and the cast rehearse the segment. Olbermann says he liked it and thought it was funny.
This is going to be must-see TV tonight. Actually, SNL has been pretty all must-see this campaign season. I can picture Affleck as Olbermann. He has sorta the same shaped hair and head. Maybe one of the other guys can play Bill O'Reilly.
Silverman and Kimmel call it quits! - VIDEOS
Wow, maybe she really was f***king Matt Damon after all.
America's Sweethearts, Jimmy Kimmel and Sarah Silverman, have broken up. It's true! A publicist for the couple (hmmm...I wonder who gets the publicist in the breakup?) sent a note to People saying that the couple have split and that "there will be no further comment." Of course, I'm sure they'll be no comment until someone mentions it on Kimmel's ABC show or someone asks Silverman about it in an interview.
Click on the link above and head on over to AOL to look at Jimmy and Sarah through the years. They have Sarah's "I'm F**king Matt Damon" video and Jimmy's "I'm F**king Ben Affleck" video. Or, if you're too lazy to click on the link above you can click the link below and check out the videos after the jump. Of course, you're still clicking so either way you have to actually click, so I'll leave the choice up to you.
Reporting for Nightline from the Congo, it's ... Ben Affleck?
If you tuned in to Nightline last night, you saw a report from the Congo about the political and humanitarian crisis there. But, the interesting part about it was who was reporting the story: Ben Affleck.According to Reuters, Affleck has made three trips out to the Congo, and he contacted ABC News to see if they wanted to send a camera crew along with him. He also wrote an essay about his trips for the late-night news program's website. It's a refreshing view from Ben, whose trips to the war-torn country have mostly been under wraps.
"I view this as a long and ongoing learning experience to educate myself before making any attempt to advocate or 'speak out,'" Affleck writes. He also says that "it makes sense to be skeptical about celebrity activism. There is always the suspicion that involvement with a cause may be doing more good for the spokesman than he or she is doing for the cause."
Bruce Campbell: The TV Squad Interview
On USA's spy-action-comedy series Burn Notice, there are great actors all around. Recently, I had the chance to spend a day on the set of Burn Notice (more on that next week!), and share in round-table interviews with the stars of the show. Here's one of those wonderful actors, the irreverent and brilliant Bruce Campbell. As Sam, Jeffrey's old friend -- and sometime nemesis -- from the spy wars, Campbell is having a ball filming in South Florida and stealing scenes like nobody's business. Oh, and he smells good, just like Old Spice.
Q: What is the character of Sam about?
Bruce Campbell: He's about 50. No, he's like the other characters in the show, damaged goods, which is why I like him.

Forget it! Sarah says she's not marrying Jimmy Kimmel
Sarah Silverman, the star of The Sarah Silverman Program, is fu*king Jimmy Kimmel, the host of ABC's late night talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live. At least we assume so, considering they've been dating for years and kidding about their love story in public -- remember her video, "I'm fu*king Matt Damon," which he countered with "I'm fu*king Ben Affleck"? These two are a fun couple and seem to really have it together. However, don't look for Ms. Silverman to ever become Mrs. Kimmel. Simply stated, Sarah Silverman told People.com that she's vowed to never marry Jimmy Kimmel. Nothing personal, Jimmy, she just likes things exactly as they are and doesn't want to muck it up with rice, flowers, lace, cake, invitations and all the other wedding malarkey.
Clearly, little Sarah never fantasized about her parents walking her down the aisle, standing under the chuppa with her groom, and seeing the man of her dreams shatter a wine glass beneath his foot, all elements of a typical nice Jewish wedding for a nice Jewish girl like Sarah.
ABC still interested in Leno
So, Disney CEO Robert Iger was having one of those yummy breakfast confabs talking about the future of the network and new media, alternate platforms and all those other fun buzz words about how we're going to be watching shows in the next few years. Then, kind of as an aside, he was asked about Jay Leno. With the end of Leno's era as the host of The Tonight Show looming -- and Conan O'Brien chomping at the bit to take over -- Mr. Iger said that he wouldn't rule out ABC going after Jay.Ken Auletta of the New Yorker pressed Iger about Leno, to which the ABC head man squirmed and said, "It's not something we typically comment on."
A new challenge for Obama fans
File this under the category of do-it-yourself politics. In this YouTube.com era, it was only a matter of time before it happened. MoveOn.org has joined forces with Oscar-winners Ben Affleck, Matt Damon and Oliver Stone, multiple Grammy-winner John Legend and author Naomi Wolf to a TV ad contest for Barack Obama. The contest is called "Obama in 30 Seconds," in which Barack supporters are being asked -- challenged -- to come up with half-minute videos that focus on what it is about the Senator from Illinois that inspires them. The winning entry will be shown on national television. Will the Kimmel/Affleck video debut after the Oscars? - VIDEO
Brad told you recently about the video that ABC late show host Jimmy Kimmel has prepared to answer girlfriend Sarah Silverman's "I'm F**king Matt Damon" song that she unveiled on his show a few weeks ago. Now comes word that the answer video might debut on Kimmel's post-Oscars telecast this Sunday night.
Jimmy Kimmel responds to Silverman video
On national television, Sarah Silverman revealed that she was cheating on her boyfriend, late-night talk-show host Jimmy Kimmel, with Matt Damon. Now, it's Kimmel's revenge.Kimmel will be releasing his own video called "I'm F**king Ben Affleck". Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are longtime friends and writing partners who won an Oscar for their screenplay Good Will Hunting. Affleck will be in the video, but I guess Kimmel wanted a little more star power. The video will also feature Ashlee Simpson, Peter Wentz, Don Cheadle, Robin Williams and Harrison Ford.
Entertainment Weekly picks the 50 smartest people in Hollywood
I'm disappointed by this list (I'm disappointed by most lists these days) because they're aren't many TV people on it. Oh, there are some TV execs and producers (J.J. Abrams) and plenty of former TV stars (George Clooney, Will Smith, Will Ferrell), but there's no Tina Fey? She's the first name that popped into my head, TV-wise. I know there are others (readers, that's your cue to comment!). Freaks and Geeks creator Judd Apatow is on the list, as is Tyler Perry. Sacha Baron Cohen is there too. What's On Tonight: Smackdown, John Wayne, 20/20
At 8, The CW has a new Smackdown! - TMC has more John Wayne movies starting at 8: Big Jake, then The Cowboys.

Family Guy: Peter's Two Dads
(S05E10) When I checked the schedule and saw the title of this episode was "Peter's Two Dads" I was a little torn. First, the Peter-centric episodes generally have a much higher chance of going off the rails. On the other hand, the possibility that it would be a play on the 80's sit-com My Two Dads, which starred Greg Evigan, Paul Reiser, and Staci Keanan, was intriguing. Unfortunately (probably only for me), that idea never materialized, and the episode that we did see still left me with something of a mixed reaction. On the good side, it was well constructed, and I give a lot of points to the writers for a well thought out plot. Chris got a bit of the short shrift, but using Meg's birthday as the setting for offing Francis was a good choice. It involved her in what was otherwise a mostly Peter affair.
The Daily Show: September 19, 2006
A spinach recall is fair reason to do jokes about tossing salads. "Call some friends over, have some drinks, and toss each other's salads!" It's a matter of safety, people."Papa Don't Preach": Jon did some nice coverage about the Pope's comments (and apology) regarding Islam. I'm going to have to try "I was just quoting a Byzantine emperor!" excuse some time in the near future. Senior Vatican City and San Marino Correspondent John Oliver elaborated on the situation. I thought the comparison of the popes to all the various James Bonds was fantastic.
Project Greenlight movie heading to DVD quickly
Did anyone out there watch the third season of Project Greenlight on Bravo? I really enjoyed this show, but ratings for the most recent season were so-so at best, which means that we probably won't see a fourth season of the show. But fans have been waiting for Feast, the horror film from the last season directed by John Gulager and starring Balthazar Getty, Krista Allen, and Navi Rawat, to be released, but there has always been some delay from the Weinstein Company for a variety of reasons, and several dates announced as release dates have come and gone.
But the movie is heading to DVD on October 17. Sure, the movie will have it's premiere in Las Vegas on September 12, and will be seen in limited release on September 22 and 23 (late night showings only), but this is still basically a straight-to-DVD release, only with a twist.
I guess this is better than never seeing the movie at all. And fans might be happy that the film will be available on DVD so quickly (well, so quick after the theatrical run, not quickly in general).
