All Allison wants for Festivus

by Allison Waldman, posted Dec 9th 2009 10:02AM
heaton_the_middleThe Festivus season is upon us, and the spirits of joy and viewing visit TV Squad, giving us a chance to make our media wishes known. Oh, the wonder of a TV world of my own making. If only the Festivus wishes I make will come true. Yes, Allison, there is a Festivus! And so, my TV wishes:

-- Last year I wished for Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman Palladino to get another shot at TV after the horrible Jezebel James. Well, she's got a deal with HBO. Good for her. Now, for me, let's get her to write and film the finale for Rory and Lorelai and Luke and Star's Hollow that she intended for GG. It's time to do it now while all the principals are still active. The Mary Tyler Moore reunion with Rhoda came two decades too late.

'Big Bang Theory' Sees Big Growth in Ratings; 'Ugly Betty'? Not So Much

by Daniel Frankel, posted Dec 2nd 2009 4:15PM
CBS' 'Big Bang Theory' is the biggest ratings gainer so far this season, while ABC's 'Ugly Betty' has had the biggest drop-off, according to a report released earlier this week by media agency Horizon Media.

Hitting its stride in season 3 while running behind another Chuck Lorre-created comedy, 'Two and a Half Men,' 'Big Bang' has seen its season average in the all-important adults 18-49 demographic increase nearly 36 percent this season, the report says.

'Ugly Betty,' meanwhile, has seen its adult demo rating suffer mightily this season, largely stemming from the show's shift to Fridays at 9PM, where it has been routinely creamed by CBS' 'Medium' and encore runs of Fox's 'House.' 'Betty' has experienced a 46 percent drop among adults 18-49 -- the demographic that networks sell advertising against -- but just got a reprieve, with ABC electing to move it to Wednesdays at 10PM, replacing 'Eastwick.'

CBS adds to NCIS and subtracts from Numb3rs

by Bob Sassone, posted Nov 5th 2009 8:10AM
Numb3rsMichael Ausiello is reporting that CBS has reduced the number of episodes of Numb3rs for this season from 22 to only 16. What does this mean for the show? Well, it means that sometimes numbers aren't good even on Numb3rs. It also means that this pretty much guarantees that this will be the last season for the show. Ausiello thinks that CBS will put Flashpoint in the time slot when the episodes run out.

So, are all of you people who tried to save Southland going to mount a similar campaign for this show? I didn't think so.

Tonight is an impossible night of television

by Bob Sassone, posted Sep 21st 2009 2:29PM
CastleI thought last night was tough, with The Emmys joining new episodes of Mad Men, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and the series premiere of Bored To Death, but it was nothing compared to tonight. We have the season premieres of How I Met Your Mother, The Big Bang Theory, Two and a Half Men, CSI: Miami, Dancing with the Stars, Castle, Heroes, and House, along with new episodes of Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill, and The Jay Leno Show and the series premiere of Accidentally on Purpose. Whew.

I think all of our DVRs are going to explode around 8:59 PM.

What are you watching? Are you going to give Heroes another chance? Are you anxiously awaiting Jenna Elfman's new show? Does Nathan Fillion make you all tingly?

Lewis Black on his new special, The Daily Show, and the Root of All Evil

by Nick Zaino, posted Sep 4th 2009 11:16AM
Lewis BlackFor thirteen years, Lewis Black has been ranting and raving as a correspondent for The Daily Show, venting about all things political and pop cultural. For much longer than that, he's been a an actor, a playwright, and stand-up comedian, playing clubs and theaters everywhere around the country.

He taped his latest special, Stark Raving Black, earlier this month in Detroit for a fall release in theaters October 8th before it heads to a new premium HB cable channel called Epix, where it will debut December 5. (Black also filmed a documentary about his transition from a writer to a comedian - he's unsure where that will end up). And Big Bang Theory fans will be happy to know he'll be doing a cameo on the show September 28. I spoke with him by phone last week.

Why release the new special theatrically?

In order to... I think... I've got no idea. Everyone around me seemed to think it was a smart idea. Why not? I'm interested in seeing how that works and if it does work. It's another way to reach people.
