Live from New York...Amy Poehler has a baby boy

by Allison Waldman, posted Oct 26th 2008 8:29AM
Amy PHow appropriate! Amy Poehler has given birth to her first child today, a baby boy. He is now officially known as Saturday Poehler Arnett. No, just kidding. The baby's name hasn't been announced yet. But considering Amy's connection to Saturday Night Live, it's just perfect that her baby came on Saturday.

According to sources, Amy was in labor all day. Yeah, that's right. Instead of rehearsing for the show, she was in the hospital with her legs up, sucking on ice chips and generally concentrating on her breathing and listening to soothing music.

Seriously, when you consider that Amy was doing that Sarah Palin rap just a week ago, you realize how far along she was and still doing the comedy business. Kudos to Amy! However, don't expect to see Baby Mama Amy back on SNL too soon. She's taking a well deserved maternity leave.

American Idol contestant goes into labor, keeps singing

by Anna Johns, posted Aug 9th 2007 6:02PM
antoria gillanAntoria Gillan really, really wants to be on American Idol. At nine months pregnant, she was auditioning for the show in Dallas earlier this week. Maybe it was all that standing around that contestants have to do... but Antoria went into labor just before it was her turn to sing for the judges. Amazingly, she ignored the contractions and sang her heart out. Then she went directly to the hospital and gave birth to a baby boy she named Jamil Labarron Idol McCowan. He weighed in at 6 pounds, 7 ounces.

First of all: good for her for incorporating her unique labor experience into his name in a tasteful way. Second of all: you go girl! Apparently it was worth the pain and suffering, because Antoria got the go-ahead to Hollywood! I'm sure Fox got it all on camera, so expect to see Antoria and baby Jamil next January during auditions highlights.

Marcia Cross gives birth to twin girls

by Anna Johns, posted Feb 21st 2007 5:50PM
marcia crossPeople magazine is reporting that Marcia Cross gave birth to twin girls yesterday. According to the magazine, the twins are fraternal and their names are Eden and Savannah. No word on birth weight or any of those vital stats but a rep for Cross says mom and babies are "all doing well."

Marcia Cross plays Bree on Desperate Housewives. At the age of 44, she became pregnant with twins. Cross was put on bed rest in January, which put a slight hitch in the giddy up for DH, but they powered through by filming in her own bedroom.

When her pregnancy was originally announced back in September, her due date was in April. Sometimes celebrities like to fudge their due dates to keep the paparazzi off their backs, but it seems as though Marcia's two girls are somewhat premature (not surprising when twins are involved!).

fetusA few weeks ago, National Geographic aired a two-hour special titled In the Womb: Animals that showed the development of dogs, elephants and dolphins while in utero through ultra sound imagery, CGI and visual effects. Hey Now! It's a girl for Jeffrey Tambor

by Julia Ward, posted Dec 19th 2006 8:37AM
Jeffrey Tambor and WifeI normally don't pick up the baby bump and failed marriage stories because, well, do you really need another voice in the blogosphere with two cents about the celebrity circle of life? Probably not. Yet, I couldn't resist this one because, well, who knew that 62 year-old Tambor was expecting a little bundle of trouble?

Tambor and his wife Kasia welcomed daughter Eve to the world on December 10th. Jeffrey Tambor's most recent television outing - Twenty Good Years - with John Lithgow went south about as fast as you'd expect a network sitcom starring two AARP card holders to, but his genius card was handed out a long time ago with series like Larry Sanders and Arrested Development under his belt. Tambor and Kasia also have a two-year old son, and get this, his 31 year-old daughter has a son the same age. So, Tambor's children and grandchild are of the same generation. Chaplin-esque, isn't it?

Parents name their son ESPN... again

by Anna Johns, posted Oct 10th 2006 2:32PM
espn logoOkay sportsfans, you may have gone too far. Over the weekend, a couple in Biloxi, Mississippi named their newborn son ESPN Montana Real. That would be 'ESPN' after the sports network and 'Montana' after legendary football player, Joe Montana. Rusty and Leann Real are not the first parents to name their kid ESPN. There's an Espn Malachi McCall in Pampa, Texas; Espn Curiel in Corpus Christi, Texas; and Espn Blondeel in Michigan. Come on! That has to be funny for, like, five minutes. Right?!? By the way, the husband picked out the name.

Would you name your child after anything (a character, actor, show, network) on television? If so, what?

Live birth special criticized in UK

by Adam Finley, posted Oct 7th 2006 6:01PM
rattleTomorrow, the UK's Channel Five will broadcast Five's Birth Night Live, a two-hour special during which one woman will give birth, or so the creators of the program are hoping. This is the first time a live birth will have been captured on British television, but while Channel Five and host Gabby Logan insist they'll remain unobtrusive, the series has caught a lot of flak from experts who insist the mother should be in a calm and unobtrusive environment, a situation they feel is impossible with a camera crew filming every moment. The folks behind the special say they'll withdraw if any problems arise for the mother or child, but that wasn't much assurance to those who feel they shouldn't be there in the first place. Perhaps one of out UK readers can fill me in on this, but I assume the mothers have to give permission before they can appear on camera? Whether or not you agree with this seems like a moot point if the one giving birth has agreed ahead of time.
