TLC wants to master the barbeque grill
by Allison Waldman, posted Sep 29th 2009 11:33AM
Yes, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but this a bit much. TLC has given the greenlight to BBQ Pit Masters, a new food show about American barbecue competitions. Does Bobby Flay, Mr. Food Network grill master himself, know about this? I can see him getting as red as his hair when he reads about it.So, TLC is saying that this new show, a documentary about the über-competitive world of competitive grilling, will run for eight hour-long episodes commencing December 2. How this will be different from similar food competitions on other networks -- like Food Network -- remains to be seen.
Meloni & Hargitay sign on for more Law & Order: SVU
by Allison Waldman, posted Jun 30th 2009 3:25PM
Well, that's a relief. After months of speculation that NBC would be bringing Law & Order: SVU back for the 11th season without the two stars that have anchored the show, there's good news. Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni have re-signed with SVU. They pair agreed to stick with NBC's top-rated Neilsen drama for two more seasons. Good news is probably an understatement. It's really great news because with SVU moving to Wednesday, 9 p.m., the show really didn't need to shake up the cast at this point in time. Stability mattered and NBC found a way to bring the two stars into the fold, offering them both the flexibility they sought.
TV stars dominate Forbes's list of top-earning celeb chefs
by Allison Waldman, posted Aug 12th 2008 5:23PM
You know why Rachael Ray is smiling all the time? She's the richest food star in the world. According to the latest Forbes list of top-earning celebrity chefs, Rachael Ray leads the pack. In fact, of the top 10 names, all but two are TV stars. Therefore, you better believe that all that exposure on Food Network, Bravo, Travel Channel, Fine Living, BBC America, and Fox -- not to mention syndication and appearances on talk shows and demonstrations on the Today Show -- makes a big difference.
Bobby Flay Interview for 'Grill It!'
by Kim Potts, posted Jul 2nd 2008 6:00AM
"It's way harder than people think to cook and talk and look at the camera." Despite restaurants, product lines, cookbooks and a ubiquitous Food Network presence, Bobby Flay has found a way to add two new series to his jam-packed schedule.
In addition to joining 'The Next Food Network Star' as a resident judge, 'Grill It! With Bobby Flay' premieres July 6.
AOL TV talked to the New York City-born and -bred chef about the secret ingredients to his success.
Food Network cooks up six new summer shows
by Allison Waldman, posted Jun 25th 2008 4:23PM
Summer's here and that can mean only one thing -- food! Okay, maybe that's only what it means at the Food Network. The Food Network will kick off six new shows for the summer beginning right after the Fourth of July. Here's what's on tap:• Grill It! with Bobby Flay - This is the latest from Iron Chef and master griller Bobby Flay. It's sort of a competition/fantasy show, but not a Throw Down (that's another show). Bobby will introduce 13 viewers who've sent in their videos showing their grilling expertise and why they should be on air to grill alongside BF. The show premieres on July 6 at 9 o'clock a.m. with a shrimp episode.
• How'd That Get On My Plate? - From the field to the plate, hostess Sunny Anderson -- who just started on FN in April with Cooking for Real -- shows how the things we eat make it to our tables. The first episode is July 6 at 11 p.m. The food in question will be strawberries.
More grillin' for Bobby Flay
by Allison Waldman, posted Mar 24th 2008 5:40PM
They're cooking up a new show for Bobby Flay, the Food Network chef who is quickly becoming the boy who just can't say no. The guy is cooking everywhere -- CBS' Early Show, Boy Meets Grill, Throwdown with Bobby Flay and, of course, he's one of the principals on Iron Chef America. And that doesn't include reruns of BBQ with Bobby Flay. But it's clearly not enough.Chef Irvine gets axed
by Allison Waldman, posted Mar 4th 2008 8:03AM
Remember when you were young and your parents told you things like "cheaters never prosper"? Well, it's true. (All right, not all the time, but at least this time!) As TV Squad reported recently, Chef Robert Irvine, star of Food Network's Dinner: Impossible, has been hoist on his own petard. Now that the truth is out -- that he lied and padded his resume -- the network has dumped him. His fire has been extinguished. Dinner: Impossible will go on, but not with Chef Irvine as chief cook and chef extraordinaire. Food Network president Brooke Johnson said in a statement, "We appreciate Robert's remorse about his actions, and we can revisit this decision at the end of the production cycle, but for now we will be looking for a replacement host."
Reality show casting calls
by Keith McDuffee, posted Feb 14th 2008 9:57AM
A day hasn't gone by where we haven't received some sort of tip or email asking us, the TV Squad, how to get on [insert reality show here]. Unfortunately no, Simon Cowell does not work for us, and Donald Trump isn't my BFF, so we really can't help all that much. The folks at RealityWanted.com often send us a list of new and existing reality shows that are looking for new, er, talent, and they've given us permission to make mention of them here. We'll try to make this a regular feature as often as we get a new list.
This time we have Million Dollar Password, Dress My Nest, Grill It!, Divorce Court, Whose Wedding is it Anyway? and several new shows.
