The Super Bowl Commercials: The Worst

by Bob Sassone, posted Feb 7th 2010 10:24PM
Super BowlIt has become a cliche to say "I watch the Super Bowl just for the ads," but I really do. I have no interest in football at all (even less this year because the Patriots aren't in it - the only reason I would have to even be a little interested in the game is if the team from my area was in it), so I really do look forward to seeing and reviewing the ads. Too bad the Super Bowl ads aren't what they used to be (except for that Letterman/Leno/Oprah ad ... wow).

This year I'm picking the seven worst ads, while Kona is handling the seven best. Two rules for my worst: no movie ads (they're in a category all by themselves and shouldn't be judged with the other ads), and I tried not to pick any commercials that aired before today.

My commercial of the week: The Boost Mobile pigs

by Jane Boursaw, posted Oct 1st 2009 10:30AM
Boost Mobile CommercialI haven't always been crazy about the Boost Mobile commercials. The one with the girl and guy riding the bike, and her horribly long armpit hair flapping back in his face, was just gross and made me want to turn the channel.

Then there was the bizarre topless commercial featuring Danika Patrick (not topless, mind you). I don't really understand ads that make us want to turn the channel. What's the point? To get us talking about them, I guess. I mean, here I am talking about it and bringing attention to it. But in a bad way!

Anyway, this Boost Mobile ad with the pigs is kind of funny. What is it about talking pigs that makes them funny? Some psychologist can weigh in on that one. Not to mention the fact that they're eating one of their own, but it fits with the "that's just wrong" theme of these ads. I especially like the little wave he does with his little hoof at the end.

Today's disturbing commercial: Boost Mobile goes topless

by Bob Sassone, posted May 27th 2009 6:34PM
Normally I would be all for topless ads, depending on who was topless, of course. It's definitely not the people in these new Boost Mobile ads featuring race car driver Danica Patrick. (Spoiler Alert: DANICA PATRICK IS NOT TOPLESS IN THIS AD.)
