'Bored to Death': Office Drug Test Busts George for Pot (VIDEO)

by Aimee Deeken, posted Oct 18th 2010 8:50AM
George Takes Drug Test on 'Bored to Death'In last week's episode of 'Bored to Death' (Sun., 10PM ET on HBO), George Christopher found out he had stage-two prostate cancer. But perhaps such exceedingly bad news could help him in one instance: There's a company-wide mandatory drug test. What's to be done about all that pot in his system...?

Fellow employees won't donate their pee to his cause, so George tries diluting his sample with water and a touch of liquid soap. Unsurprisingly, such actions don't work.

George is told (very slowly, "because you're probably stoned right now") that his "urine tested off the charts for THC. And adding soap to your specimen wasn't very clever."

D'oh! Well, at least he can pull the cancer card and say it was medicinal marijuana.

'Bored to Death': A Writer With a Gun to His Head (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Oct 11th 2010 5:52AM
'Bored to Death': A Writer With a Gun to His HeadIt's just one of those days on 'Bored to Death' (Sun., 10PM ET on HBO). One of those "getting kidnapped by a pair of armed thugs" kind of days. That's never fun -- especially when you're new to the whole "guns and criminals" scene ...

'Bored' hero Jonathan Ames (Jason Schwartzman) is a struggling novelist with a drinking problem. When the series began, Jon had two big problems: His literary career was going nowhere, and his girlfriend had dumped him. Jon needed to change his life -- so on a whim, he started a new career as a private detective. But can a sensitive author make it in a world of bad guys and bullets?

Jason Schwartzman Isn't Bored of 'Bored to Death'

by Kelly Woo, posted Sep 24th 2010 4:30PM
Jason Schwartzman, Bored to DeathWhen HBO's 'Bored to Death' returns for its second season (Sun., Sept. 26 at 10PM ET), you can expect more wacky cases, elaborate hijinks, Brooklyn scenery and ... full-frontal male nudity? Guess 'Bored to Death' decided to take a page from fellow HBO comedy 'Hung.'

Jason Schwartzman called TV Squad to preview season 2, which includes that nudity in the second episode (by, of all people, the show's creator, author Jonathan Ames). He also talked about the chemistry he shares with co-stars Ted Danson and Zach Galifianakis, his other projects and the mustache he may or may not keep.

What can you tell us about season 2? Are there arcs, new journeys for the characters?
We all have new arcs, new journeys. As a detective, my cases are getting more intense, because theoretically, I've been doing it now for a little while. I'm not getting the cream of the crop in terms of cases because I'm still unlicensed, but I am getting involved with more crime, more life or death type situations.

TV 101: Wouldn't it be nice if HBO grew a pair?

by Jay Black, posted Feb 24th 2010 11:01AM
Last week, HBO launched a new service called "HBO Go". If you subscribe to the network through your cable system, you can now access a deep offering of its content - about 600 hours so far - on your computer.

As soon as the average hotel wireless speed improves from "AOL 1997" to something more akin to what I have at home, HBO Go is going to make my life on the road much less boring. Goodbye drinking myself to sleep at the Des Moines Holiday Inn! Hello 'Entourage'! (And , uh, drinking myself to sleep).

Happy as I am about the new service, ever since it was announced something has really been pissing me off: The way HBO Go is currently configured helps the cable companies screw over their customers.

Despite Three Shows, Ted Danson Only Works Six Months a Year

by Bryan Reesman, posted Jan 22nd 2010 3:00PM
He's on three acclaimed television shows -- 'Damages,' 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' and 'Bored To Death' -- yet Ted Danson confessed to AOL that he's not as busy as you'd think.

"To be honest, I work about six months out of the year," the actor told AOL while in town Tuesday night to promote the new 'Damages' season 2 DVD release and the season 3 premiere.

"I have family weddings and have been moving into a new house, but I haven't been working that much. Truthfully. It looks like it. I could write a book, 'How to Work Half the Year'. Except when you work, when you act, it is so much easier than the real-life part. I've never been so busy in my life when I'm not working."

My Morning Jacket to Appear on 'American Dad'

by Michael D. Ayers, posted Nov 11th 2009 4:00PM
My Morning Jacket American DadFox's 'American Dad' is set to rock -- literally.

Kentucky's finest southern-rock band, My Morning Jacket, will appear on the Nov. 22 episode of the Seth MacFarlane comedy. The episode will be titled 'My Morning Straightjacket,' and will feature not only the band in cartoon form (a first!), but six MMJ songs and guest voiceovers from the likes of Zach Galifianakis, who will play a MMJ super-fan.

"Honestly, it was an organic evolution," said 'American Dad' co-creator Mike Barker in a statement. " I was at Bonnaroo in the summer of 2008, watching MMJ play their guts out in the rain at 4 a.m. when the idea for the episode struck me. I pitched the idea to the guys the next day and thankfully they were on board."

Review: Bored to Death - Take a Dive (season finale)

Zach Galifianakis and Jason Schwartzman
(S01E08) "You think we learned anything tonight?" - Jonathan

I'll tell you what I learned -- Bored to Death has a lot of potential. All season long, I've gone from loving to hating to loving this show, and with the season finale now come and gone, there's a real opportunity here for Bored to Death to become HBO's next break-out hit when it returns. All the pieces are in place and it probably could have blown up this season had there not been so many episodes where the show tried to find its footing. Is it a detective show? Or is it about three friends in the publishing world trying to make their mark? Or is it both?
