Brazilian crime show host kills for ratings?
by Danny Gallagher, posted Aug 14th 2009 9:02AM
Is it just me or is Network starting to look like more and more of a reverse documentary? Here's the latest step towards "hell yes." Newser reports that a Brazilian host of a popular crime show put out hits on people, so their bizarre murders would boost his ratings.
The show, Canal Livre, seemed to have an almost Clark Kent-ish ability to be the first on some very gruesome murder and crime scenes. Luckily, one of the show's plucky interns, Jimino Olseno, pointed this out to the local authorities who launched their investigation.
Here's where the next Survivor will be set
by Bob Sassone, posted Dec 12th 2008 6:03PM
Survivor host Jeff Probst usually reveals the location of the next season at the end of the live reunion show which happens at the end of the last episode (this Sunday at 8 on CBS). But the news has been released a little early this season.Probst was on Ryan Seacrest's show (yes, I know, this is the second Seacrest interview I've linked to this week - who knew he'd be such a fountain of breaking news?), and Probst reveals that the next season of the show will be in Brazil. Which means it's another jungle setting, which means we can expect more bugs, more heat, perhaps some rainstorms and footage of animals that usually don't make it anywhere near the camps. In fact, they're already done filming the next season, which debuts on February 12.
Probst also talks about running into Anderson Cooper when he was doing The Mole and the debacle that was The Emmys.
Ian Richardson dead at 72
by Bob Sassone, posted Feb 11th 2007 3:14PM
Sometimes I wonder if what we remember a deceased actor for is the thing that actor would want to be remembered for the most.
British actor Ian Richardson played corrupt politician Francis Urquhart in three mini-series: House of Cards, To Play The King, and The Final Cut, and had a long career starring in such movies as Brazil, The Winslow Boy, Dark City, As You Like It, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Canterbuy Tales, and The Fourth Protocol, but TV audiences might know him best as the guy who pulls up in the limo and asks "Do you have any Grey Poupon?"
Richardson was also an acclaimed stage actor and appeared on other TV shows, including the miniseries Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, Ike, and the series Highlander. He died in England on Friday.
Latin American Idol sings a different tune
by Anna Johns, posted Apr 2nd 2006 2:22PM
There are 33 versions of
the American Idol-style singing competition around the world, in 33 different countries. But, the
Idol franchise is about to launch into new territory. Instead of just one country, it will launch Latin
American Idol, covering an entire region. It will host auditions in four countries and is open to contestants from
Mexico and Central and South America. Except Brazil, which has its own version that launches April 5th.That's an awfully
large region to choose from and I imagine it has some smokin' hot talent. Here are the audition dates:
- Mexico City: April 22-23
- Caracas, Venezuela: April 29-30
- Bogota, Colombia: May 5-6
- Buenos Aires, Argentina: May 16-17
