Remembering Mollie Sugden

by Michael Pascua, posted Jul 5th 2009 6:02PM
Mollie Sugden as Mrs. SlocombeI was a recent convert to watching BBC comedies on PBS. Although I love all the comedies that PBS offers, I was awed by the show Are You Being Served? The show went places with double entendres and physical comedy that you would never see in American television.

I found out that Mollie Sugden, who plays the infamous Mrs. Slocombe, died on the first of July at the age of 86.

The Office's free love freeway lives on - VIDEO

by Annie Wu, posted Jun 26th 2007 3:38PM
Free Love FreewayI am so incredibly giddy about this news, I don't even know where to begin. As a hardcore fan of the original The Office, my heart fills with glee whenever I see a mention of the show or one of the cast members. It's not that I want a third series, I just still need little things to guide me through this four year case of withdrawal. Heck, I spent the entirety of the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy being the only girl who wasn't swooning over Johnny Depp or Orlando Bloom because I was so happy to see gangly, wooden-eyed Mackenzie Crook onscreen.

Well, good news for anyone else who is still in need of some Office love. July 1st's Concert for Diana in London will feature a multitude of stars to celebrate Princess Diana's life. Among those stars will be Office stars Ricky Gervais and Mackenzie Crook, performing "Free Love Freeway" before introducing Sir Elton John.

The Guardian's Comedy Special profiles hot comics

by Annie Wu, posted Sep 11th 2006 10:41AM
Ricky Gervais and Stephen MerchantThe latest edition of The Guardian features some fantastic interviews and articles about some of today's hottest British comedians. They're all great reads, but the photos of the comics re-enacting various moments in pop culture are what really reeled me in. My favorites include Ricky Gervais and Steve Merchant (from The Office) as McCartney and Lennon, the boys from Green Wing as Queen, and Nick Frost and Simon Pegg (from Spaced and Shaun of the Dead) as Paul Gascoigne and Vinnie Jones. Hilarious.

Little Britain star to swim English Channel

by Annie Wu, posted Jun 2nd 2006 5:24PM
David WalliamsDavid Walliams, one of the stars of Little Britain, is going to attempt to swim the 21 miles of the English Channel. This feat is all in the name of a charity called Sport Relief, where half of the proceeds are spent in the UK to help families in disadvantaged communities and the other half is for children and young people in the world's poorest countries. You can go on the Sport Relief website and sponsor David before he takes on this tremendous task (less than 10% of people actually make it across the other side).

I can't help but wonder if he would get more money if he agreed to swim in costume.
