The return of Firefly's Mal Reynolds

Mal Reynolds, Nathan Fillion's character from the short-lived Joss Whedon series, Firefly, made a triumphant return to television last night. Granted, it was only for a little bit, and Fillion wasn't specifically playing Mal, but the costume was there, in all of its spacey glory.

Last night's episode of Castle was Halloween-themed, and, well, you can probably see where this is going. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Fillion had a section in his contract for Castle that says, "if ever the opportunity arises, I will be able to dress up as Mal, because damnit, I miss that (brown)coat." So last night, the worlds of Firefly and Castle collided, and Nathan Fillion once again donned Mal's brown duster as part of his "Space Cowboy" Halloween costume.

Firefly cruise: Find Serenity at sea

by Anna Johns, posted Apr 11th 2007 3:46PM
fireflyWould you go on a cruise with a bunch of Firefly fans? If so, I'd say you've entered into uber-geekdom. And that's okay, because the series really did rock.

The Browncoats, or die-hard fans of Firefly who were instrumental in getting Serenity made, are planning a cruise for this December. It's a five-day excursion from San Diego to Cabo San Lucas to Ensenada, Mexico. Prices range from $570 to $1,000 for the nicer rooms. Not a bad price, really, if you're looking to escape the 'verse for a spell.

The Browncoats, crafty as they be, have lined up Shepherd Book (Ron Glass) and Adelai Niska (Michael Fairman) as special guests. Music will be provided by The Bedlam Bards, a duo that sings about outlaws and pirates at various renaissance shindigs around the U.S.

Firefly's lost tapes of River Tam - VIDEO

by Kevin Kelly, posted Jan 12th 2007 3:02PM
lost tapes of river tamEver wonder what happened to River during all that time she was locked up in Alliance hands? Well, now you can see what happened if you watch the lost tapes from her "sessions." This almost amounts to torture for Firefly fans, because while we get some tantalizing background hints about River, it just makes Browncoats (like me) wish that this series would return.

Can't someone pony up the cash and get this great show back on the air, make a direct to DVD movie, or even a video podcast? I'd even settle for a traveling minstrel & puppet show at this point. Check out the never released grainy black & white footage after the jump. It features River (Summer Glau) and Joss Whedon himself playing her counselor.

(NOTE: The video below is currently shorter than it should be. We're working to get it fixed. Keep checking back.)
(UPDATE: Fixed now. Enjoy!)

Free download of Serenity/Firefly fan film

by Anna Johns, posted Aug 3rd 2006 6:57PM
done the impossible; firefly; serenityFor those fans who don't already know, you can download a feature-length documentary about the rise and fall of Firefly and the making of Serenity. It's called Done the Impossible, and it features interviews with die-hard fans (aka 'Browncoats') who attended Shindigs and worked to spread the word about Firefly to back-up Joss Whedon's efforts to make the movie, Serenity. It also features some interviews with cast members. Kinda sounds like Trekkies, except this time I'll totally identify with the fans.

The movie is for sale on this website or you can download it here (legally and for free!) but you need to have the torrent software to do so. I don't have the software on my computer yet so I can't tell you much more about it. But, TV Squad reader Tucker did notify us that Jenna Fischer (Pam on The Office) makes an appearance with her husband, who directed Nathan Fillion (Mal) in Slither.
