Sam Axe Tries to Talk a Gun Out of His Face on 'Burn Notice' (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Jul 29th 2011 2:10PM
Sam with a gun to the face on 'Burn Notice'Sam Axe (Bruce Campbell) is usually a pretty slick talker. But on Thursday's episode of 'Burn Notice' (Thursdays, 9PM USA), he had to talk faster than usual, as Carmelo Dante, one of Miami's biggest heroin dealers, held a gun to his chin. Dante was angry that he thought was a shipment of drugs was actually a shipment of weapons, at least according to a Serbian contact he had taken hostage.

It was a tough situation, but one that Michael (Jeffrey Donovan) was confident Sam could talk his way out of. "Oh yeah, it's such a shock that some Serbian scumbag that you took prisoner would lie to save his own life," said Sam. A good start, but the Serbian said Sam would lie, before he passed out.

Comic-Con Q&A: 'Burn Notice' Star & Creator Talk Season 5, Guest Stars & More (VIDEO)

by Maureen Ryan, posted Jul 21st 2011 11:35PM
Bruce Campbell, 'Burn Notice'At Thursday's 'Burn Notice' panel at Comic-Con, fans got exactly what they wanted: Vintage Bruce Campbell.

The dynamic is simple, but it works -- Campbell goofs on his fans and they love it. 'Burn Notice' creator Matt Nix shared the stage with Campbell, and their good-natured sarcasm was enjoyable to witness ("Actors are like puppets," Nix observed. Campbell: "I'm right here." Nix: "I made him say that").

Of course, they talked about the making of 'The Fall of Sam Axe' movie (which, as luck would have it, comes out on DVD this Tues., July 26), the making of the USA show (the fifth season of which is now underway) and even got serious about Sam (Nix said the beer-loving ex-Navy Seal wasn't far from who Campbell is as a person -- "kind of the best older brother that ever was").

One fan wanted a "scandalous" story from the set, and Campbell obliged her: "Jeffrey Donovan and I have spent a lot of time together in the Charger. One time it got a little out of hand."

Sam Makes Time for Kisses on 'Burn Notice: The Fall of Sam Axe' (VIDEO)

Bruce Campbell & Kiele Sanchez, 'Burn Notice: The Fall of Sam Axe'The biggest question for 'Burn Notice' fans is if it's possible to have too much of a good thing. Sam Axe is a great supporting character on the series, but were you ready for him to step into the lead for the two-hour 'Burn Notice: The Fall of Sam Axe' (Sun., 9PM ET on USA)?

Of course, Bruce Campbell has been a leading man in campy B-movies for years, and this in some ways was very much the same. In fact, camp is one of the reasons we love Campbell and Sam Axe.

Our own Maureen Ryan gave Campbell his props for squeezing "every scrap of comedic potential from the script," but felt the film was uneven at best.

Review: Bruce Campbell's Charisma Anchors Uneven 'Burn Notice' Movie

by Maureen Ryan, posted Apr 15th 2011 11:00AM
It takes a brave man to go up against the premiere of HBO's much-hyped 'Game of Thrones,' but Bruce Campbell has never been one to shy away from a fight.

Campbell stars in 'Burn Notice: The Fall of Sam Axe' (9PM ET Sunday, USA), a two-hour TV movie that rests largely on the actor's avuncular charm. But don't go into 'The Fall of Sam Axe' expecting a dose of what 'Burn Notice' does at its best. It's less ambitious and a good deal less slick than the USA show.

The fairly predictable 'Sam Axe' plot isn't much to write home about, nor will the movie's production values and supporting cast put Miami, Michael Westen or Fiona Glenanne out of your mind. Still, if you take it for what it is -- Bruce Campbell using his approachable charisma in yet another low-budget movie involving a fair amount of bloodshed -- 'The Fall of Sam Axe' isn't a terrible way to spend two hours.

'Burn Notice' Prequel Movie Gets New Cast Members

by Catherine Lawson, posted Feb 1st 2011 7:45AM
Bruce CampbellMichael Westen and Fiona Glennane might not be a part of it, but Sam Axe is still going to have a whole lot of company -- and even a date or two -- in the 'Burn Notice' prequel movie.

As production continues in Bogotá, Colombia a trio of new cast members have been announced. TVLine.com reports that 'Burn Notice' star Bruce Campbell, who plays Sam Axe, will be joined by Chandra West ('The Gates'), RonReaco Lee ('The Good Guys'), Kiele Sanchez ('The Glades') and John Diehl ('The Shield').

West will play Sam's new love interest, the "smart and sexy" Donna. Lee and Sanchez will play, respectively, a field medic and a humanitarian who run into trouble in Colombia. Diehl rounds out the cast as Rear Admiral Lawrence, a no-nonsense naval officer who will stop at nothing to get to the truth.

Jeffrey Donovan to Direct 'Burn Notice' Prequel Movie Starring Sam Axe

by Maureen Ryan, posted Nov 30th 2010 5:05PM
"When you're directing a TV movie in Colombia, what you don't want to do is..."

OK, there's no word on whether the upcoming 'Burn Notice' prequel movie will have those distinctive voiceovers, but we do know who is directing the film: the show's star, Jeffrey Donovan.

Donovan will direct co-star Bruce Campbell in a story that will follow Sam Axe's adventures on a tricky mission in Colombia. The TV movie will be shot on location early next year and debut on USA in the spring.

"He was a real Navy SEAL, not a joke Navy SEAL," Nix said in last summer at Comic-Con. "What made him go from that to a guy who lives in Miami drinking beer and lives off rich women? That's what we'll find out."

That all sounds fine, but allow me to make a key casting suggestion for the Sam Axe movie.

Burn Notice cast
While that "What Is Burn Notice?" skit on 'Saturday Night Live' last season was amusing, the USA show's enduring popularity proves that a whole lot of people know exactly what the show is: a fun, funny, fast-paced, gorgeously shot, tightly-written spy drama with a fantastic lead in Jeffrey Donovan as burned spy Michael Westen and a rich supporting cast made up of 'Evil Dead' fan favorite Bruce Campbell as Michael's retired Navy Seal pal Sam, 'Scent of a Woman' star Gabrielle Anwar as the gun-running, tough-chick-with-a-heart Fiona (Michael's love interest) and Emmy-winning TV vet Sharon Gless as Michael's mama, the equally tough and crafty Maddie.

Seven TV Stars I'd Love To See on Twitter

by Bob Sassone, posted Apr 22nd 2010 6:30PM
Tina FeyAh, Twitter. That web site with the funny name that for many people has suddenly become as vital as e-mail and instant messaging. Even celebrities are into it, and while there are many TV stars who on it, there are even more who aren't but should be. After the jump, my list of the seven I'd follow forever.

You'll notice a trend with the list: they're all funny people. That seems to be the thing that works best on Twitter.

1. Tina Fey. Can you imagine Fey on Twitter? That would be the online equivalent of "Must-See TV." She actually got the @tinafey account that someone else had grabbed, but she hasn't done anything with it. And, alas, she's not going to. In a recent interview with Esquire, Fey said that doing Twitter would be a "busman's holiday," and just more writing she'd have to do. Oh well. We still have Judah Friedlander (@JudahWorldChamp) and the official '30 Rock' Twitter account (@nbc30rock).

'Burn Notice' Gets a New Regular Cast Member

by Bob Sassone, posted Mar 9th 2010 2:16PM
Burn Notice'Burn Notice' just ended its third season and now comes word that they're adding a new regular character to mix with Michael, Fiona, Sam, and Madeline.

Coby Bell, who had regular roles on such shows as 'Third Watch,' 'The Game,' and 'L.A. Doctors' (no, I don't remember that 1999 show, though it sounds like something that should have been a hint, doesn't it?) will join the cast as Jesse Garcia.

The Hollywood Reporter describes the character as "a cocky and sarcastic counterintelligence expert with a chameleon-like ability to assume different cover identities and an intense desire to see bad guys punished.' Wait, that sounds a lot like Michael! He finds himself in Miami, too, and hooks up with the gang for what I'm assuming will be lots of action.

How'd You Like To See A 'Burn Notice'/'White Collar' Crossover Episode?

by Bob Sassone, posted Mar 2nd 2010 5:30PM
Burn NoticeTV viewers often have "I wonder what would happen if ______ and ______ had a crossover episode?" fantasy. There have been many crossovers, of course. Everything from Jessica Fletcher appearing on 'Magnum, P.I.' to The Green Hornet and Kato appearing on 'Batman' and the recent crossovers we saw on all of the 'CSI' shows. Now 'White Collar' creator Jeff Eastin is talking about a crossover with another USA Network show.

In this conference call with TV critics, Eastin mentions that he'd love to do a crossover episode with 'Burn Notice.' He's friends with 'Burn Notice' creator Matt Nix and they've joked about it, but he might bring it up to USA for the second season (the season finale of 'White Collar' airs next Tuesday).
