Someone's Got a Bun in the Oven on 'Cake Boss: Next Great Baker' (VIDEO)

'Cake Boss'Telling your co-workers that you're pregnant can be complicated, which may be why baker Heather chose to just slide it into a random conversation on 'Cake Boss: Next Great Baker' (Mon., 9PM ET on TLC) rather than make a big announcement.

Her co-workers were totally unaware that she was pregnant until she said she had to go to the bathroom: "Baby pressing on bladder, I'll go really really fast."

Those chef's whites must be very forgiving as, unbelievably, Heather had made it to seven months' pregnant without anyone noticing. Except Chad, who said that he thought she was, but didn't mention it just in case she wasn't.

Transport Proves Biggest Challenge For One Team on 'Next Great Baker' (VIDEO)

Buddy Valastro, 'Next Great Baker'The 'Cake Boss' Buddy Valastro returned with the second season of 'Next Great Baker' (Mon., 9PM ET on TLC). At stake is an apprenticeship at Valastro's bakery, so he's very invested in making the right choices as the competition progresses.

Sometimes that means looking beyond the final product to the individuals behind the efforts. For the elimination challenge, they were separated into teams, which would test their teamwork. As they each have their own artistic vision, this was a tremendous challenge. And with a four-foot tall cake to create, they had their work cut out for them.

Buddy Valastro Makes a Halloween Spider Cake With Rachael Ray (VIDEO)

by Alex Moaba, posted Oct 24th 2011 7:00PM
With Halloween just a week away, 'Cake Boss' Buddy Valastro taught 'Rachael Ray' (weekdays, syndicated on ABC) how to make a spooky spider cake. All it takes is a rotating cake turn-table, a few different colors of icing, and some toy spiders.

Striking up a cake-side conversation, Ray asked Valastro if he was scared by spiders or snakes. "Nah, I'm a rough tough guy," he said. "Yeah, a rough-tough guy with sprinkles," Ray joked back.

'Cake Boss' Makes a Cow Cake That Gives Milk (VIDEO)

Eden the cow and Eden the cow cake on 'Cake Boss'If Buddy Valastro just made nice big chocolate cakes for kids' birthday parties, 'Cake Boss' (Mondays, 9PM on TLC) wouldn't be a very interesting show. Luckily, Monday's episode was far stranger than that, as Valastro made a cow-shaped cake for Eden's tenth birthday. By the way, Eden is a cow. And the cow cake, like Eden, also gave milk.

With the help of his crew, Valastro made a life-sized replica of Eden. The head was carved out of Rice Crispy Treats, and the udders were made of modeling chocolate, all built on a wooden frame. But the biggest challenge? "I gotta have somebody hide inside and squeeze the bottles to make it milk," said Valastro.

Kelly Ripa and Regis Philbin show of their 'Cake Boss' cakes on 'Live With Regis and Kelly'Last week on 'Live With Regis and Kelly' (weekdays, syndicated), Regis Philbin tried his hand at baking a wedding cake with 'Cake Boss' Buddy Valastro. Valastro suggested they bury and say a prayer over Philbin's creation. This week, Philbin and Kelly Ripa showed off photos of custom cakes the Cake Boss made for their staff party, which ended up melted, but got eaten anyway.

The cakes were made to look like busts of Philbin and Ripa, but Ripa wasn't terribly impressed. "The Cake Boss made cakes of us," she said. "I look like you, and I thought your cake looked like Ronald Reagan." Since the party was outdoors, during a heat-wave, they had to put the cakes in the air-conditioned party-bus, but that couldn't save them.

The 'Cake Boss' Teaches Regis How to Bake (VIDEO)

Regis Philbin and Buddy Valastro of 'Cake Boss' on 'Live With Regis and Kelly' Thursday on 'Live With Regis and Kelly' (weekdays, syndicated), Alton Brown taught Kelly Ripa how to judge food. Friday on the show, Regis Philbin learned how to bake from Budday Valastro, the 'Cake Boss' himself, who taught him the finer points of confection. As an added level of difficulty, the cake was for a bride-to-be, named Kimberly.

Philbin knew there would be trouble when he sat down with Kimberly and asked what she wanted. "Three or four tiers," she said. "You're not makin' it, are you?" Valastro laughed. "Kimberly, you're a sweet girl," said Philbin, "but I didn't like that tone that much." That was only the beginning. Philbin nearly freaked out when he had to handle a slimy raw egg yolk.

The 'Cake Boss' Tackles His Biggest Project Ever for a Las Vegas Party (VIDEO)

'Cake Boss'Buddy Valastro tackled his biggest challenge ever on the latest installment of 'Cake Boss' (Mon., 9PM ET on TLC). To celebrate Century 21's 40th birthday bash in Las Vegas, Valastro created a 1,500 lb cake that simply has to be seen to be believed.

"When we challenged Buddy with this opportunity, we never thought that he would pull off something like he pulled off," said Century 21 President and CEO Rick Davidson. Most of the brokers and agents in attendance were stunned in disbelief at what they were looking at.

A cityscape of various buildings capped with a massive spinning globe, if we hadn't seen them cut into it and serve it, we'd be hard-pressed to believe it was actually made of cake.

by PopEater Staff, posted Feb 1st 2011 4:20PM
Sal Picinich, Cake BossSal Picinich, the baker on TLC's 'Cake Boss,' has died at the age of 63, according to NorthJersey.com.

The Croatian-born Picinich worked for 45 years in Carlo's Bakery in Hoboken, N.J., where the reality series is filmed.

Buddy Valastro, the show's namesake Cake Boss, viewed Picinich as a "second father," said Carlo's Bakery publicist Adam Bourcier. Picinich also worked with Valastro's father.

The fourth season of 'Cake Boss' began Jan. 24. Picinich's appearances on the show dwindled in late 2009, when his battle with cancer began.

"The minute he didn't go down to Carlo's Bakery was the minute I knew Sal was starting to feel pain," said his wife, Lucille Picinich.

'Cake Boss' Blows Up Some Cakes (VIDEO)

'Cake Boss' Blows Up Some CakesExplosions + reality TV makes everything better. Probably. (For proof of this, here's a video of sand castles exploding in reverse on a reality show. See? Explosions can even make sand castles entertaining. Sort of.)

But somehow, cakes plus explosions does't seem like a natural mix. After all, cakes are ... something you'd like to eat. Demolishing them is such a waste. And as your mom might remind you: waste not, want not; you should always clean your plate, etc.

Still, explosions are what we got on 'Cake Boss: Next Great Baker' (Mon., 9PM ET on TLC). Two teams competed to create the best cake for a special effects company. Host Buddy Valastro didn't like one of the cakes, so he had it blown up. And then he blew up the other one.

'Cake Boss' -- 'Jersey Shore's' Snooki Appears, Causes a Flirting 'Situation''Jersey Shore's' Snooki is everywhere these days, so why not have her on top of a cake as well? It seems that Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi failed to remember Mother's Day. So she tried to apologize to her mom on the new 'Cake Boss' (Mon., 9PM ET on TLC).

The 'Cake Boss' shop is located in Hoboken, New Jersey -- not the shore. Still, maybe the fellow "Garden State" residents could solve the family drama.

Buddy Valastro and his team tried to make Snooki happy -- which included letting the reality star flirt with Buddy's cousin Anthony. Upon meeting Anthony, Snooki found the young man to be severely untanned. She suggested that he needed a heavy dose of "GTL" -- that's "gym, tan and laundry" for you 'Jersey Shore' newbies.

Cake BossThe danger we see on most of these cake-oriented reality shows isn't that the cakes taste bad or they're made badly, it's from crumbling. Watch 'Challenge' on Food Network or 'Cake Boss' (Monday nights at 9PM ET on TLC) and there's always a panic when the cakes start to fall apart or tip over. This clip from 'Cake Boss' shows a cake building falling down. Luckily, Joey was there to fix the problem.

Like most problems in life, the solution is butter cream.

'Cake Boss' Has a 1980s-Themed Costume Contest (VIDEO)

by Bob Sassone, posted Jul 27th 2010 3:14PM
Cake BossIf you're of a certain age, you know how people dressed in the 1980s. Last night's 'Cake Boss' (Mondays at 9PM ET on TLC) had a contest where everyone wore clothes from the decade and they picked a winner for the best outfit. It's a pretty narrow field, actually. Everyone seems to be dressed like Madonna or Olivia Newton-John in the "Let's Get Physical" video.

Also: How can you have an 80s costume contest and not have one person dressed like the guys from 'Miami Vice'? The 1980s weren't all about big hair and ripped shirts you know.

A Heart Attack on 'Cake Boss'?Does making cake all the time equal bad health? Yes, we know that eating cake all the time is unhealthy. But we would have thought that being a professional baker would be a fairly rigorous and athletic activity.

As it turns out, that's not necessarily the case. On the latest episode of 'Cake Boss' (Mon, 9PM ET on TLC), head cook Buddy Valastro must deal with some health problems involving his somewhat overweight co-worker Mauro.
