'Caprica' - 'End of Line' Recap

by Brad Trechak, posted Mar 27th 2010 3:38AM
Caprica(S01E09) The great thing about 'Caprica' (and 'Battlestar Galactica' before it) is its ability to completely mess with your expectations. Granted, tonight's mid-season finale contained more predictability than not, but there were one or two surprises that cemented this series as one of the best on television right now.

Of course, the show ended with a ton of cliffhangers, at least one of which is easy to predict how it will be resolved based on what has happened before (and will happen again ... sorry. Couldn't resist). On a side note, Amanda Graystone was using a tablet computer at her bed. It must be a PC tablet, because if it was an iPad, the Cylon War would likely never have happened (they're so much more user friendly).

On to the spoilers ...

What to Watch: March 26

by Kim Potts, posted Mar 26th 2010 6:00AM
'Caprica' (9PM, SyFy) season 1 finale
The ratings haven't been overwhelmingly great, but the network is already talking about other 'Battlestar Galactica' spin-offs, so things aren't looking too bad for a continued future for this 'BG' prequel. Still, fans may want to tune in for this first season finale to boost those numbers, especially since the season wrap-up promises plenty of drama, and a major cliffhanger. Daniel's daddy drama with Zoe continues, as he sets a deadline for resetting the Cylon, forcing Zoe to find a way to save herself. Elsewhere, Lacy is caught in the middle as Clarice dukes it out with Barnabas (James Marsters), and Daniel's desperation about the situation with Zoe prompts him to make a confession to Amanda.

Watch Terrorists Clash in a Sneak of Caprica's Mid-Season Finale

by Mike Moody, posted Mar 23rd 2010 2:15PM
I can't believe the mid-season finale of 'Caprica' is only a few days away. It seems like the show just found its footing and now its going on a break with an official return date yet to be announced.

We have a sneak peek of this Friday's ep, titled "End of the Line" that features Barnabus (James Marsters) clashing with Clarice (Polly Walker). Watch it below and see if you can tell which one of these fanatical religious terrorists is crazier than the other.

Friday's season-ender will offer plenty of STO action, but we'll also see some major drama between Daniel (Eric Stoltz) and Zoe (Alessandra Torresani) at Casa Graystone. According to Syfy, Daniel plans to "reset" the Zoebot, which could end Avatar Zoe's existence for good. She tries to escape before the shutdown, but not everything goes to plan.

'Caprica' - 'Ghosts in the Machine' Recap

by Brad Trechak, posted Mar 20th 2010 2:04AM
Caprica(S01E08) This episode could just as well have been called 'Marathon Robot' or perhaps 'The Manchurian Robot Candidate.' Given the psychological torture Robot Zoe had to go through from her father, it's no wonder that eventually the Cylons will rise up and try to destroy the human race.

When you stop to think about it, humanity isn't really giving the first set of sentient artificial intelligences a break. One of them is being hunted and the other is being tortured. It's definitely a case of parenting to the extreme.

'Caprica' fans are preparing for plenty of drama and surprises in the last two episodes of the first half of season 1.

The first episode airs tonight at 9PM ET on Syfy, and in it, Daniel (Eric Stoltz) is convinced that Zoe's (Alessandra Torresani) avatar is hiding in the robot and conducts a series of dangerous tests to flush her out.

AOL TV caught up with Torresani and show creators Ronald D. Moore and David Eick on the red carpet of Tuesday night's Syfy Channel upfront presentation to get the scoop on where the rest of the season is going.

James Marsters Joins the New 'Hawaii Five-O'

by Mike Moody, posted Mar 17th 2010 8:30AM
james marstersBad boy for hire James Marsters has landed his next villainous role. The former 'Buffy' bloodsucker and current 'Caprica' cult leader will play Steve McGarrett's nemesis in the new 'Hawaii Five-O.'

Marsters announced the big news on his official Facebook page. Sadly, he's only signed for a guest spot in the CBS pilot, produced by uber-geeks of the moment Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman ('Fringe,' 'Star Trek'). Of course, the guest gig could turn into a recurring role if the producers like what they see (fingers crossed!).

Syfy Eyes New 'Battlestar Galactica' Spinoff

by Scott Harris, posted Mar 16th 2010 11:00AM
Ever since Syfy's acclaimed hit 'Battlestar Galactica' went off the air last year, fans of the series have been looking for something to fill the void left by its absence. Now Syfy may finally have found a new show that fits the bill: 'Battlestar Galactica.'

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Syfy is eying a return to the world of 'Battlestar Galactica' for a new spinoff. While details are still vague, the potential series is described as "a return to the franchise's space-opera roots."

"We're looking for other ways to spin off 'Battlestar' beyond 'Caprica,'" Syfy development honcho Mark Stern told the Hollywood Reporter. "That world is so rich. We're sitting down with (executive producer) Ron Moore and his team. It would not necessarily be a traditional series."

Syfy picks up 'Three Inches' pilot

by Brad Trechak, posted Mar 16th 2010 9:31AM
SyFySyFy has picked up a new pilot called 'Three Inches,' according to The Hollywood Reporter. The premise is that the central character can move anything with his mind, but only for a distance of three inches. This character recruits a team of similarly underachieving mutants. It sounds a bit like a knock-off of The Inferior Five.

The article also mentions the network's plan to expand it's 'Battlestar Galactica' empire with a strong possibility for a second season of 'Caprica' as well as another spin-off series of the franchise. Another spin-off series? Honestly, where else can the show go? They covered the war with the robots and they're now covering the origin of the robots. Are they going back to the original planet of the Five ... a prequel of the prequel?

Okay, there are probably a ton of other concepts and topics to cover in the 'BSG' universe, but SyFy should be wary. An overabundance of spin-offs is what killed the 'Star Trek' franchise until the recent movie reboot.

How Should 'Caprica' End? Ron Moore Has No Idea!

by Mike Moody, posted Mar 15th 2010 5:04PM
caprica zoe'Caprica' continues to deliver its own unique blend of intriguing sci-fi drama while also adding to the mythology of 'Battlestar Galactica'. So far, we've seen the "birth" of the first Cylon, explored Admiral Adama's Tauron roots, and discovered the origins of the Cylons' monotheistic leanings. But how far will 'Caprica' take us? What will the series' end game look like? Will it conclude with the first Cylon war? The eventual fall of the thirteen colonies?

In a recent video interview (embedded after the jump), series creator Ron Moore said that the end point of the series isn't clear yet. The writers still haven't decided how far they want to take the story. Moore did promise that we'd see Zoe's avatar "progress." He also revealed that we might eventually see her "in the flesh as it were, in the real world."

'Caprica' - 'The Imperfections of Memory' Recap

by Brad Trechak, posted Mar 12th 2010 10:52PM
Caprica(S01E07) One of the best aspects of 'Caprica' (and its predecessor series) is the creators' ability to know exactly how long to drag out a storyline before people get bored with it and replace it with the next level of the storyline. The final, single word spoken by Daniel Graystone in tonight's episode proves that the story is ready for the next step.

Another benefit is the ability to have so much happening at once that the viewer has absolutely no idea how the season is going to end, which is why he or she keeps tuning in every week.

Yet another benefit is that the technobabble is nowhere near 'Star Trek' level annoying. It's realistic enough to keep interest without making up every other word.

'Caprica' - 'Know Thy Enemy' Recap

by Brad Trechak, posted Mar 6th 2010 1:06AM
Caprica(S01E06) Yes, that was James Marsters (Spike from 'Buffy' and 'Angel') with the brunette hair and the distinctly non-British accent. The fangirls get a moment to squeal before we continue.

Tonight's episode was a lot of set-up and/or continuation of previous storylines. It didn't feel like anything major happened. There are only three episodes left in the season after tonight, so the only conclusion to be reached is that the creators are thinking beyond the first season.

I didn't even notice before tonight that Eric Stoltz's character was sporting a soul patch. He's quite the hipster. Plus, how is it that Caprica, a planet millions and billions of light-years away, has cucumbers, carrots and peppers? What are the odds? Are they available on every planet? Next they'll have cows.
