by Jason Hughes, posted Dec 6th 2011 2:15AM
Toby Keith, 'American Country Awards'It was a big night for Toby Keith at the 'American Country Awards' (Mon., 8PM ET on FOX), as he took home honors not just for work he's done in the past year, but over the past decade. Co-hosts Trace Adkins and Kristin Chenoweth were on hand to bestow upon Keith the Artist of the Decade Award, but Keith's good buddy Stephen Colbert couldn't miss out on the opportunity, sending kudos from his desk at 'The Colbert Report.'

It was only the second year of the fan-voted country music competition, but the stars weren't shy at showing up to the sophomore event. Fan support certainly helped former 'American Idol' contestants from the first season to now.

Brad Paisley Performs for Four-Year-Old Fan on 'GMA' (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Jul 15th 2011 12:45PM
Brad Paisley performs 'Nobody's Fool' from the 'Cars 2' soundtrack on 'Good Morning America'With two songs on the 'Cars 2' soundtrack, Brad Paisley could be opening up a whole new, younger audience for himself. That was certainly the case Friday morning on 'Good Morning America' (weekdays, 7AM on ABC), when Paisley performed his song 'Nobody's Fool' for a crowd that included a four-year-old lifelong fan.

Anchor Robin Roberts was interviewing Paisley, who was named CMA Entertainer of the Year and will co-host the awards with Carrie Underwood in November, and asked him what his favorite song to perform was. "Anything new that's a hit, anything that's brand new, because you haven't worn it out and you're still experimenting with it," said Paisley, noting he was learning in front of the fans.

Roberts pointed to the boy in the crowd, who was hoisted on his father's shoulders, and suggested Paisley use him as inspiration. The father said it was his son's fourth birthday, and that Paisley had been his favorite "ever since he was two" years old. "His whole life," Paisley said. It doesn't get too much more brand new than that.

Lauren Alaina Performs With Her Idol Carrie Underwood on 'American Idol' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted May 26th 2011 1:35AM
Carrie Underwood & Lauren Alaina, 'American Idol'Poor Lauren Alaina. With an injured vocal chord, she was absent from much of the performances during the 'American Idol' (Wed., 8PM ET on FOX) finale. Probably she was saving her voice for her big duet with her own idol, Season 4 winner Carrie Underwood.

The pair tackled Underwood's hit 'Before He Cheats,' but even in this performance, Alaina had to give more of the song to Underwood than was probably originally intended. Still, she was given her moments to shine, and it proved to be a very solid performance.

We couldn't help but think, while watching this finale, that the results almost don't matter. Both Lauren Alaina and Scotty McCreery have huge careers just waiting for them in country music. Alaina, however, has a better shot at the same crossover success Underwood has found in pop music.

Highlights and Winners From the '46th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Apr 4th 2011 3:25AM
Steven Tyler & Carrie Underwood, '46th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards'With Carrie Underwood not nominated this year for Entertainer of the Year at the '46th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards' (Sun., 8PM ET on CBS), her back-to-back winning streak was coming to an end. So the big question of the night was who would take home the prize. Especially as all five nominees had never taken home the honor before.

But that wasn't the only surprise, as there were several great performances, including a medley duet by former 'American Idol' winner Underwood and fresh-faced 'Idol' judge Steven Tyler.

He first joined her on-stage for her hit 'Undo It,' but soon they broke into Aerosmith's signature song 'Walk This Way,' where Underwood reminded us of that great rock edge her voice has.

Simon Cowell Knew Carrie Underwood Would Win 'American Idol' and Be a Star (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jan 24th 2011 4:12AM
Simon Cowell, 'Oprah Presents Master Class'Fans of 'American Idol' know that Carrie Underwood was something special from the moment she stepped onto that show's stage. Former judge Simon Cowell was featured on 'Oprah Presents Master Class' (Sun., 10PM on OWN) where he admitted she was truly one of a kind.

In nine seasons of 'American Idol,' no one commanded his attention as she did. "It was as if the entire cast that year was in black-and-white and she walked in in color," Cowell said.

From the moment he first saw her and heard her sing, he knew three things. "A) I knew we'd found a star," he said. "B) She was gonna win, and C) I had this feeling that she was going to sell more records than anybody else." The latter he even said at one point during the competition.

'Extreme Makeover': Saving a School That Was Washed Away in a Flood (VIDEO)

'Extreme Makeover': Saving a School That Was Washed Away in a FloodThe Tennessee floods of May, 2010 were a "1,000-year-event" -- the type of flood predicted to occur only once every millennium. Flooding caused at least $1.5 billion worth of damage in Nashville alone. It was a devastating once-in-a-lifetime event for residents in the area. Many television viewers also saw a one-time-only sight. Shocked viewers watched as a schoolhouse floated away -- down a flooded highway that had become a river.

This swept-away schoolhouse was part of the Lighthouse Christian School, which has been run by the Sweatt family since 2003. After the floods, the Sweatts led relief efforts in the area, assisting over 200 families. But now, their school is in danger of shutting for good ... unless they get some help. So 'Extreme Makeover' (Sun., 8PM ET on ABC) comes their aid.

Where Was David Cook Among the 'American Idol' Winners?

by Andrew Scott, posted May 26th 2010 10:40PM
Departing judge Simon Cowell was supposed to be the center of attention in the 'American Idol' season 9 finale. But ironically, it was the former 'American Idol' winners who stole the show during his special farewell tribute segment, which also featured the return of former judge Paula Abdul.

In a true show-stopping moment, winners Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia Barrino, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Hicks, Jordin Sparks and Kris Allen took to the stage to sing 'Together We Are One' by Delta Goodrem, during which they were joined by a revolving door of 'Idol' finalists that included everyone from Kimberly Caldwell to Constantine Maroulis and, yes, Justin Guarini.

Noticeably absent, though, was season 7 winner David Cook -- the only 'Idol' winner who did not take part in the group performance. According to Twitter, Cook was attending a charity event for cancer in Kansas City. An official word from Cook's camp has yet to be released.

'American Idol' - 'One of Six Eliminated' Recap

by Kona Gallagher, posted Apr 28th 2010 10:01PM
american idol top 6 elimination
Here's my deal: We need to have a Crystal/Casey finale, and Siobhan needs to go tonight. While the judges loved her, my ears told me that she sounded like a cat being mauled to death last night. I honestly do not understand the praise that is being heaped upon her. I'd be just as happy if Aaron the wedding singer left, but even I can admit that he hasn't had a bad performance in several weeks.

But no matter who actually goes tonight, one thing's for certain: there's going to be about 50 minutes of filler leading up to it. Tonight, we get Rascal Flatts, Shakira, vampires, emo violinists, and a whole lot of other things that only the evil geniuses behind 'Idol' can dream up in an effort to stretch 5 minutes of show into an hour.

'Idol Gives Back' Line-up Announced

by Rich Keller, posted Apr 2nd 2010 1:03PM
Idol Gives Back airs on April 21stI've never been a big fan of 'American Idol.' Mostly because the show rips up the FOX schedule to the point that viewers forget programs like 'Bones' and 'House' still exist on the network. And don't get me started on what it did to the 'Glee' schedule!

Still, the show does redeem itself once a year with 'Idol Gives Back,' which raises a good deal of money for various charities ($140 million to date). This year, the program will take up the entire FOX schedule on Wednesday, April 21st with performances by Alicia Keys, regular 'Gives Back' performer Carrie Underwood, The Black Eyed Peas, Annie Lennox, and Jeff Beck.

Donations raised from the show will benefit the Children's Health Fund, Feeding America, Malaria No More, Save the Children, and the United Nations Foundation. Donations can be made via phone during the broadcast as well as online, through text messaging, and via the primitive mail service.

Oh, to make sure viewers don't think the show is too charitable, the week's voting results will be revealed and a finalist will go home during the show. Hey, they have a reputation to keep!

CBS Anchor Is Smitten with Carrie UnderwoodJeff Glor, co-host of 'The Early Show' (weekdays, 7AM ET on CBS), seems to have a bit of a crush on singer Carrie Underwood. In fact, he makes a special request: can he sit next to her? "I know you want to sit next to Carrie..." says co-host Maggie Rodriguez. Mr. Glor plops down next to Carrie Underwood, and then they all discuss Underwood's new fiancee: hockey player Mike Fisher.

So we've already got Glor flirting with Underwood. But then, Rodriguez asks to see Underwood's engagement ring, and her fingers caress Underwood's hand for an... oddly long time. Are both CBS anchors flirting with Ms. Underwood? Judge for yourself.
