'Dancing With the Stars' Week 5: Ricki's Roger Rabbit Flops, J.R. Shines

by Crystal Bell, posted Oct 17th 2011 11:20PM
Ricki Lake & Derek go '80sIt was '80s night on 'Dancing With the Stars' this week and that meant big hair, big shoulder pads, acid brights, a guest performance by The Bangles and ... Roger Rabbit?

The seemingly unstoppable Ricki Lake didn't look so smooth doing the Roger Rabbit this week, even after some encouragement from surprise guest, filmmaker John Waters, who gave Ricki her big break in 1988's 'Hairspray.'

Unfortunately, Ricki just couldn't find the beat this week, and that definitely hurt her scores. After scoring two 10s last week for her thrilling 'Psycho' tango and being atop the leaderboard for three weeks in a row, Ricki dropped the ball this week, only scoring a 24 and losing her top spot to J.R. Martinez.

Carson Kressley Talks Nancy Grace on 'DWTS,' Why He's Not Dancing With a Man (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Sep 30th 2011 5:30AM
Carson Kressley, 'The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson'Carson Kressley talked 'Dancing With the Stars' on 'The Late Late Show' (Weeknights, 12:37AM ET on CBS), emphasizing that when Nancy Grace had her supposed wardrobe mishap, he wasn't looking.

"I'm straight and I wasn't looking," Craig Ferguson agreed. He then asked Kressley why he isn't dancing with a man, considering he's a gay man and that's what he'd do in his personal life.

Kressley said it was something he'd teased about before finding out who he was paired with, and genuinely considered as something he might want to do. That is, until he tried to lift up Maksim Chmerkovskiy.

'DWTS' Backstage Report: Ron Artest Talks About Exiting, Will Chaz and Lacey Dance to a Cher Song?

by Michael Maloney, posted Sep 21st 2011 7:00AM
Tom Bergeron, Brooke Burke Charvet, Peta Murgatroyd, Ron ArtestIt bites having to leave 'Dancing With the Stars,' especially when you enjoy being there as much as Ron Artest did.

But the pro basketball player focused on the positive after host Tom Bergeron announced on last night's results show that Artest and pro partner Peta Murgatroyd would be the first couple to leave Season 13.

Artest is a lesson to us all in having to embrace a change that we might not be so thrilled about having to make.

The couple earned the lowest score on Monday's show and this was Murgatroyd's first year as a pro dancer so she's yet to build a fan base like veterans Derek Hough, Cheryl Burke and Mark Ballas have. That combination apparently proved to be the duo's undoing.

AOL TV was on the post-show press line to talk to Artest and Murgatroyd about their exit and to some of the remaining participants to get their thoughts on what they need to do to stay in the game.

'DWTS' Backstage Report: Who's Going Home First? Also, Julianne Hough is Returning!

by Michael Maloney, posted Sep 20th 2011 7:00AM
'DWTS' 13 CastIt's difficult to predict just who's going to be eliminated on tonight's results show of 'Dancing With the Stars.'

The scores ranged from 14 for pro basketball player Ron Artest (a.k.a. Metta World Peace) to 22 each for singer Chynna Phillips and 'All My Children' actor J.R. Martinez.

Since Artest's pro partner, Peta Murgatroyd, is also new to the show it's not like she's bringing in a lot of votes. Still, pro athletes have always done well on 'DWTS.'

How did the stars and pro dancers think they did? AOL TV was on the post-show press line to get reactions.

Carson Kressley and Wendy Williams Break Down the 'DWTS' Field (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Sep 15th 2011 3:30PM
Carson Kressley on 'Wendy Williams' Carson Kressley might not be the most unbiased opinion you could seek to discuss who's going to win Season 13 of 'Dancing With the Stars,' considering he's vying for the Mirrorball Trophy himself. But on 'Wendy Williams' (weekdays, syndicated on CBS) he talked a bit about his competitors with Williams.

Williams has a few strong opinions about how this season will go down. She doesn't see Kressley being eliminated first. That honor will go to George Clooney's ex-girlfriend Elisabetta Canalis, she predicted. Kressley made the point that Vegas is setting odds on the competition and has installed Canalis as the favorite. "Oh, she's not going to win," said Williams. "People don't like her because she hurt George Clooney's heart. And he's like an American [treasure]." At which point, Kressley jokingly yelled, "I hate her!"

Nancy Grace Explains How Michael Jackson Helped Her Say 'Yes' to 'Dancing With the Stars'

by Michael Maloney, posted Aug 30th 2011 7:00AM
'Dancing With the Stars' Season 13 cast

It remains to be seen who'll emerge as the front-runner on the 13th season of 'Dancing With the Stars,' which debuts Monday, Sept. 19 at 8PM ET on ABC. But, by early indications, contestant Nancy Grace is the one to beat on the press line.

The outspoken Grace didn't mince words as to why she came to L.A. to do the show. She's here anyway to cover the Michael Jackson murder case.

"I understand the defense attorney wants the jury sequestered from Nancy Grace," says the former prosecutor. "I can only say that his client is charged with standing by, talking on the phone to his girlfriend while the King of Pop, a music icon, lay on that bed and died ... I don't think it was altogether a bad thing that they asked the jury to be sequestered from me."

Grace is hoping that this trial sends a message that even rich celebrities accused of crimes deserve justice.

"Many people are still angry at Michael Jackson over the molestation charges. What many of them don't see is that Lady Justice is blind to the defendant and the victim. It doesn't matter what Jackson did or didn't do. It's a slippery slope to start judging victims."

Appearing on such a high-profile show will allow millions of Americans to get to know him in a whole new light."

Carson Kressley and Alex McCord Critique 'Real Housewives' Fashion on 'Watch What Happens Live' (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Jul 8th 2011 6:00PM
Carson Kressley on 'Watch What Happens Live'The 'Real Housewives' franchise produces some interesting fashion choices, which prompted a game of "Cars-in or Cars-out" Friday on 'Watch What Happens Live' (Thursdays and Sundays, 11PM on Bravo).

Fashion guru Carson Kressley was shown a photo of a cast member of 'The Real Housewives of New York City' with the face blurred out and was asked to give a thumbs up or thumbs down, with 'Housewife' Alex McCord filling in the details.

Ramona's "sexy Big Bird" look got a thumbs down. "It's probably not the most flattering shape," said Kressley. Simon's "sporty gothic" look also got a thumbs down, which was the most common response. Brian's "cabaret" look, bare-chested with black hat and suspenders, fared the best.

Alex's own black dress with studs got a "Cars-out," but at least Kressley was apologetic about it. "But you wear it well," he said. Still, out.

He described the show Friday on 'Live With Regis and Kelly' (weekdays, syndicated), and also got props on his Twitter skills from guest host Kara DioGuardi, who said she personally hasn't figured out how to use the medium properly.

"I have a vintage Airstream and my own truck," Kressley said of the show, "and me and my assistant drive it across country, and we stop at all the towns that need our help, which is a lot." A clip from the show featured Kressley helping a woman with her "man jeans."

DioGuardi said she was glad that Kressley tweets, particularly a recent post in which Kressley included a photo of his "moobs," or man-boobs. "Oh, I know a guy who has those," DioGuardi said. "Simon Cowell."

Carson Kressley Had Self-Awareness as a Kid, Thanks to Barbie (VIDEO)

In the third grade, he was invited to a friend's house the day after Christmas to play with new toys. "As I'm walking into their basement, I would see that big Barbie head -- that had the hair and the curlers and the makeup -- that their sister had gotten for Christmas," he explained.

When asked to choose between air hockey and robots, Kressley said, "I'm like, 'Can't we just give Barbie bangs?'" No wonder he became a makeover maven.
