Charlie Murphy Talks Brother Eddie, Being Famous on 'Lopez Tonight' (VIDEO)

by Aimee Deeken, posted Jun 3rd 2010 6:57AM
Charlie Murphy Talks Brother Eddie on 'Lopez Tonight'Charlie Murphy is 50 years old, but has been a comedian only about nine years, first making a name for himself on 'Chappelle's Show'. He revealed why he waited so long to join the stand-up- and sketch-comedy arenas when he appeared on 'Lopez Tonight' (weeknights, 11PM ET on TBS).

"Because my brother's Eddie Murphy, and he's an icon," said Charlie. "I didn't want to show up and people be like, 'Oh look, here's Eddie Murphy's brother -- he's funny too.'"

But now Charlie's getting recognized on his own, leading to some awkward run-ins -- namely in a restaurant bathroom.

Charlie Murphy will be telling more stories

by Brad Trechak, posted Mar 5th 2009 10:05AM
Charlie MurphyOne of my favorite sketches from Chappelle's Show was "Charlie Murphy's True Hollywood Stories". It was proof that the best sketches come from real stories and it was a perfect example of how nutty a world the entertainment business is.

Hopefully, we'll be seeing more of that sort of comedy by Charlie Murphy as he will be hosting his own sketch comedy show called Charlie Murphy's Crash Comedy on Sony's Crackle.com video network.

I can only imagine the conversation at the Murphy family reunions nowadays. "I have a new movie coming out." "Will it suck like Pluto Nash? Well, now I have my own comedy series." "Yeah, but it's just on the Internet." Naturally, there would be a lot more profanity than what I'm writing. Hollywood should just put the two of them in a movie together and be done with it.

Do you think Eddie will make a cameo on Charlie's show?

Hot Ghetto Mess changes name

by Adam Finley, posted Jul 24th 2007 11:02AM

BETEver since I first heard about Hot Ghetto Mess, I've been intrigued. The new BET series courted some controversy from folks who felt it exploited black stereotypes, and at least two sponsors, State Farm Insurance and Home Depot, have pulled their ads. Both BET entertainment chief Reginald Hudlin and Jam Donaldson (creator of the HotGhettoMess.com site on which the new series is based) say the purpose of the series is to encourage people, in a humorous manner, to take a look at themselves and their communities and try to affect positive change. The series mixes user-submitted video clips with man-on-the-street interviews.

Speaking of change, the series is now called We Got to Do Better. The actual content of the show won't change, but the new title more clearly explains the intent of the series. I discovered this last night while trying to find Hot Ghetto Mess on my Tivo with no luck. The series, hosted by Charlie Murphy (Chappelle's Show) debuts tomorrow (Wednesday) at 10:30 p.m.
