It's hard to believe we're already through six hours of yet another rough day on the calendar of Jack Bauer, but what's even more intense to think about is that there are 18 more that we have to survive through. So to set the stage, it's like this: Jack is looking to hook back into Mike Novick's network in order to clear up what Walt Cummings is up to, Jack's ex-girlfriend and current girlfriend are having some friendly chats, President Logan's wife is about to be sent off to a mental hospital (by way of Walt's plans), and a shipment of weaponized nerve gas is out there somewhere, thought to be headed overseas as part of the plot to get at the Russians.

It's pretty clear that the whole Buchanan - McGill order of operations isn't going to fly so well, and Buchanan most certainly isn't taking it well. After seeing this week's show, I can't decide if the "uncomfortable girlfriend conversation moments" are necessary or just a way to fill up some time during the show. Audrey is flat out frustrating to me, and I can't figure out why she's now sticking around CTU - except for the fact that she's there and Jack is back in town. Then again, the potential for Diane and Audrey to get a little frustrated with one another is present, leading us to believe that something might happen there. But on 24, that could mean that one or both of them die, Jack chooses neither one, or both of them leave Jack's side. Picking ponies at the track with your eyes closed probably offers better odds than trying to figure out what is going to happen here.

In what is already the fifth (fifth!) hour of this season of 24, there were a few stress points that were definitely going to break. Audrey and Diane were bound to meet up with each other, given the proximity within the CTU premises, Spenser is getting the gasface from Chloe, and Mrs. Logan is bound to either break down or get herself in some trouble. Of course, I have Monday Night Quarterbacking going on and can point those things out, but they were all left hanging at the end of last week's fourth hour.

Frankly, I'm still flabbergasted at the casting of Sean Astin, and the waxing of Michelle and President Palmer. Leading into this week's recap, I figured to notice something that would catch me off guard or perhaps show something I needed to think more about. There wasn't too much big stuff, but after re-watching the first hour a few nights ago, I definitely see the concern that Palmer has on his face before commenting to his brother about being distracted because of his memoirs - clearly that's not all of it. Was he foretelling what was going to happen with the Russians and the treaty? Was he aware of the plot against him? So many questions!

And Chloe, with a tattoo! Jack leaves town for 18 months and the whole place comes crashing down!
