Christina Applegate Is Having a Baby, She's Getting Fat, and She's Cursing (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Aug 27th 2010 1:38AM
Christina Applegate Is Having a Baby, She's Getting Fat, and She's CursingActress Christina Applegate is pregnant -- and she's not super-happy about it. Sure, she's into the whole amazing idea of giving life to another human being. But she's not so into the "gaining weight" thing.

During an interview on 'Lopez Tonight' (weeknights, 11PM ET on TBS), Christina discusses the joys -- and non-joys -- of having a baby. She's especially annoyed that other women act like being pregnant is a poetic, non-tiring experience. "Bullsh*t! ... You feel like a fat-a**. You are exhausted."

Christina Applegate's Pregnancy Is Making Her Mean (VIDEO)

by Aimee Deeken, posted Aug 26th 2010 5:00AM
Christina Applegate Talks Pregnancy on 'Late Show'So much for that delicate pregnancy glow. Christina Applegate has "no filter," thanks to her pregnancy hormones, she confessed on 'Late Show' (weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS). She said she's always been a bit of a people pleaser who follows the rules and is kind to authority figures. Not anymore.

On a recent outing to the bank, her pregnancy persona revealed itself. She and a friend parked close to the ATM so that she wouldn't have to walk. "This security guard started yelling at us for parking there, and I went, 'Shhh, shhh! It is too hot out to be a douchebag, OK?'" Applegate said. "Who am I right now? ... That is a horrible thing to say to somebody!"

'Jimmy Kimmel': Christina Applegate Talks Pregnancy Psychosis (VIDEO)

'Jimmy Kimmel Live': Christina Applegate Talks Pregnancy PsychosisYes, Christina Applegate is pregnant. But something wasn't right when she appeared on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' (weeknights, 12:05AM ET on ABC) sporting a rather lumpy bump. Before she sat down, the actress turned her back to the audience and took a sweatshirt out from under her dress. Ah.

"It's more exciting to see the big giant bulge," Jimmy Kimmel agreed. "[But] there should not be a zipper in your baby."

From there, Applegate talked about her "textbook" pregnancy: "I'm like everything that you read in the books -- I've got it all." That includes psychosis. "You kind of go a little cuckoo," explained Applegate. "It's almost out-of-body." Almost.

Ed O'Neill on Being the 'Modern Family' Patriarch

by Joel Keller, posted Mar 17th 2010 5:02PM
Ed O'Neill of 'Modern Family''Modern Family' is a repeat tonight, so I figured it would be a good opportunity to give fans a little taste by posting the quick talk I had with Ed O'Neill in January. It was the last day of the press tour, and the critics were in the middle of an epic day of set visits; one of the most fun aspects of the day was that were able to wander through the sound stages at 'Family' and talk informally to the show's stars.

I found O'Neill in the kitchen of the house where his character, Jay Pritchett, lives with his trophy wife Gloria (Sofia Vergara) and old soul stepson Manny (Rico Rodriguez). As my fellow critics were beckoning me to get on the bus to go to the next set, I asked Ed a few questions about how Jay has changed this season, and what he thinks the legacy of 'Married... With Children' might be.

Julianne Moore, Maria Bello Among Big Name Talent on Nets' "Wish List"

by Audrey Fine, posted Jan 27th 2010 1:00PM
Julianne MooreOnce upon a time, hot shot movie actors would never have deigned to stoop so low as to appear on -- gasp --- TV, but thanks to big screen talent like Glen Close ('Damages'), Alec Baldwin ('30 Rock') and Laurence Fishburne ('CSI) having made the leap, more and more "A listers" have begun to think of the old boob tube as less, well, boob-y.

In fact, during any given pilot season, the networks compile a "wish list" of movie stars they'd love to get their mitts on and this year's no different. The Hollywood Reporter details that this time 'round, Oscar nominee Julianne Moore and indie darling Maria Bello rest atop the list for several of the more meaty female roles.

It seems that Moore, who's been dipping her toes into the television pool with a [much-mailgned] guest arc on '30 Rock' would be the dream addition to the Peacock net's take on PBS' long-running 'Prime Suspect.' ABC, too, has its eyes on Moore for its upcoming comedic drama 'Scoundrels' but has also approached Bello and former box office heavyweight-turned-compulsive-tweeter, Demi Moore about the role of a mom who tries to get her family of small-time criminals back on the straight and narrow.

Guess who's coming to Sesame Street?

by Danny Gallagher, posted Jan 21st 2010 10:40PM
There are few signs in this crazy business that you have become an indelible and beloved member of the pop culture lexicon than getting a cameo appearance on an episode of Sesame Street. Case in point: Gallagher, O.J. Simpson and Kanye West have yet to appear on an episode of Sesame Street.

Well, would you want West teaching your kids the difference between "near" and "far," things that are yellow and why George Bush hates black people?

Some upcoming episodes of the long running PBS kids' show will include appearances by Christina Applegate on Jan. 25, Hugh Jackman on Jan. 27, Debi Mazar and Sarah Jessica Parker on Feb. 16 and Paul Rudd and Eva Longoria-Parker on Feb. 18.

Christina Applegate Coaches Conan O'Brien to Speak Chipmunk (VIDEO)

Christina Applegate stopped by 'The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien' to promote 'Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel,' and offered Conan O'Brien lessons on how to speak like a chipmunk.

Applegate coached O'Brien on the proper way to record a raw piece of dialog, then, courtesy of studio magic, the clip was sped up to resemble the voices of the three famous singing rodents.

Carrie Underwood on Her Holiday Special, Working With Dolly Parton and Her Favorite Christmas Song

by Michael D. Ayers, posted Dec 7th 2009 10:00AM
Carrie UnderwoodIt's been a busy fall for multi-platinum recording artist Carrie Underwood. In early November, the 'American Idol' winner released her third studio album, 'Play On,' and reprised her role as co-host of the CMA Awards, along side Brad Paisley. But she's also been in the Christmas spirit this season, as indicated by her two-hour variety special, 'Carrie Underwood: An All-Star Holiday Special,' which airs tonight at 9PM on Fox.

The show will feature musical performances as well as skits, pairing Underwood with Dolly Parton, Kristin Chenoweth, 'Idol' season 7 winner David Cook and Christina Applegate.

Underwood recently spoke to reporters via a conference call about her special, plus her own thoughts on the holiday season. Here's what she had to say.

Jane After Dark: Sexy Samantha talking Greek in Scrubs

by Jane Boursaw, posted Sep 13th 2009 10:00AM
Dirty Sexy Money Season 2Several DVD sets came my way this week, so I did some marathon viewing sessions for Jane After Dark. I'm brand new to some of these, so you'll get the stark, raw newbie version. But I'll start with one I've watched since the beginning ...

Dirty Sexy Money: The Complete Second and Final Season. I really liked this show at the beginning. It had all the elements of a great series, including excellent actors (starting with Donald Sutherland, Jill Clayburgh, and Peter Krause) and intriguing storylines with rich people, sex, murder, and mystery. But by the time they got to season two, the storylines just seemed to fizzle out. I would love to hear your thoughts on why Dirty Sexy Money didn't work. Crummy writing? Poor use of great actors? Too many characters to keep track of? Poor timing with the writer's strike occurring in the middle of its run, resulting in ten months between seasons?

Bonus features: Directing the Darlings (behind the scenes with director Jamie Babbit); A Total Knockout (a day in the life of Natalie Zea, who played Karen); Dirty Sexy Crafty (a featurette about the food on the set); Faux Pas (bloopers); deleted scenes.

Emmy Wish List: Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series

by Mike Moody, posted Jul 15th 2009 2:31PM
toni collette united states of taraLet's be honest. There are really only four or five real contenders for this category, and most of them were nominated last year. But it's not like the talented Tina Fey (30 Rock), Mary Louise-Parker (Weeds), Julia Louise-Dreyfus (The New Adventures of Old Christine) and America Ferrera (Ugly Betty) don't deserve the recognition. They all fit the bill, and most of their shows were damn good this year.

I'd be happy to see any one of them go home with the gold on Emmy night. I'd also love to see some recognition for Christina Applegate's work in Samantha Who?, a great show that got the ax earlier this year.

Samantha Who?: The Dream Job/The First Date - open thread

Samantha Who?
Samantha Who? is going to be a trivia question one day. What was the name of that comedy on ABC that got good reviews and pretty good ratings and people seemed to like it and then ABC canceled it? Of course, that could probably describe quite a few shows the past several years, but I think the cancellation of Samantha Who? surprised a lot of people when ABC had their upfront a couple of months ago. Now they're doubling up on episodes this summer.

The new Chipettes: What nightmares are made of

by Annie Wu, posted Jun 14th 2009 3:03PM
The SqueakuelI'll admit, I watched a lot of Alvin and the Chipmunks when I was little, despite all its awkward 80s animation tendencies and general pointlessness. I even kind of liked it. When the Chipettes joined the gang, bringing even more high-pitched sass, I felt no need to cry shark-jumping (probably because the phrase had yet to be coined and I hadn't gotten to that Happy Days episode).

The Chipettes animated on the small screen were kind of girly and cute. The Chipettes in Alvin And The Chipmunks: The Squeakuel are what you see before you die.

ABC to burn off remaining Samantha Who?, Cupid eps this summer

by Mike Moody, posted Jun 1st 2009 2:27PM
samantha who? fianl episodes air date abcABC has given an air date to Samantha Who?'s swan song. The network will begin burning off the seven remaining episodes of the show Thursdays at 8 p.m. starting June 25.

As we mentioned last week, even a petition set up by star Christina Applegate couldn't save Samantha Who? from the axe. It's a shame. Applegate has turned into such a magnetic and charming comedic actor. Here's hoping she gets another shot at her own show or, like Jason already suggested, a long-running guest stint on HIMYM or maybe The Big Bang Theory.

ABC is also making room on its summer schedule for the final eps of Cupid and In the Motherhood. The sole remaining ep of Cupid, which shared the same fate as the 1998 show it was based on, will air June 16 -- if the NBA Finals don't make it to Game 6! (That's another slap in the face from the network to Cupid creator Rob Thomas). In the Motherhood's final three eps will begin airing June 25 at 8:30 p.m.
