CBS' YouTube channel launched today

by Adam Finley, posted Oct 18th 2006 10:07PM

Not too long ago I mentioned that CBS and YouTube had struck a deal where clips from various CBS shows would become available on a special YouTube channel. That channel, which you can find at youtube.com/cbs doesn't have a ton of clips on it just yet, but you can catch bits from Late Show with David Letterman, The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, CSI: Miami, CSI: NY, NCIS, Jericho, and clips from CBS News. The deal also includes content from CSTV and Showtime, though currently it looks like the majority of the content is from the CBS network. The deal with YouTube also allows CBS to keep or remove copyrighted content from the site if the network so chooses, which I assume is a way to get people to watch CBS content through this specific channel, only. I think now that networks are offering full episodes, a few small clips aren't going to impress Web surfers too much. What do you guys think?

Create your own Treehouse of Horror

by Adam Finley, posted Oct 17th 2006 8:45PM
simpsonsSee, this is why it's so hard to get any work done. The official Simpsons Web site has an awesome video editor where you can piece together clips from the upcoming "Treehouse of Horror XVII" (November 5) to create your very own wacky/scary mish mash of Simpson-y goodness. I'm having enough fun just playing around with it, but if you're feeling competitive you can actually enter your creation in a contest for a chance to have it aired on FOX, or to win a trip to the 400th episode party. Other prizes include an autographed drawing from the episode courtesy Matt Groening, and a bunch of limited edition posters. I would enter my own creation, but I'm afraid it would blow everyone's mind. Or I'm just lazy.

The best of Borat

by Adam Finley, posted Oct 7th 2006 1:58PM
boratCracked, in honor of the upcoming movie with the cumbersome but hilarious title of Borat: Culture Leanings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, have selected their ten favorite Borat clips from HBO's Da Ali G Show. I haven't had HBO in several years, so I was never able to watch The Ali G Show, but thanks to this little site called YouTube I've seen several of Borat's appearances, and I'm convinced Sacha Baron Cohen is a comic genius. By hiding behind the facade of an out-of-his-element foreigner he's able to say some of the most outlandish and offensive things without getting the tar kicked out of him.

Watch preview clips of Tom Goes to the Mayor

by Adam Finley, posted May 15th 2006 3:06PM

tom goes to the mayorAs I mentioned already, Tom Goes to the Mayor is returning with new episodes on June 4. Right now you can check out a couple preview clips over on YouTube. While it looks as if the show will continue with the idea of Tom coming up with not-very-good ideas and pitching them to the vacuous Mayor, based on these clips it seems the show has increased its funny dosage quite a bit, not to mention more celebrity guests. I was rather excited to see Bob Balaban, most noticeable from his roles in Christopher Guest's ensemble projects such as Waiting for Guffman and Best in Show, playing Tom's father in one clip. Oh yeah, and ignore the "June 18" at the end of the clip. The season really does start on June 4.

Thanks to Vito, who mentioned this on my other post.

Cancel everything and watch Sesame Street the rest of the day

by Adam Finley, posted Apr 24th 2006 2:06PM

kermitI know a lot of people praise YouTube, but it's well-deserved praise. The site has become a depository for just about any old clip from any show, commercial, or video you can think of. In fact, there's a huge amount of Sesame Street clips on there, and one person has taken it upon themselves to provide links to almost one hundred classic and not-so-classic clips from the show. I'd like to say I was the one with that kind of time on my hands, but I wasn't. I mean, I have that much time on my hands, I'm just too lazy to actually compile all those videos. The clips include some favorites of mine, such as the Alligator King, Ladybug Picnic, Mahna Mahna, and Kermit's "News Flash" segments, which I always thought were some of the funniest segments on Sesame Street. No Muppet plays the straight man better than Kermit. Well, maybe Bert. Anyway, enjoy them all.

Clips from upcoming Ren and Stimpy DVD

by Adam Finley, posted Apr 18th 2006 2:55PM
ren and stimpyHey, animation fans, John Kricfalusi has posted some clips from the upcoming DVD release of Ren and Stimpy: Adult Party Cartoon on his blog. The set is actually being called "The Lost Episodes" and will contain cartoons from the short-lived SpikeTV series which brought Ren and Stimpy out of the confines of children's animation and into a more ribald setting. Essentially, once the duo was re-imagined for SpikeTV very little remained of their Nickelodeon days. This was either a welcome change or utter blasphemy, depending on your stance as a fan. Personally, while I enjoyed the original Ren and Stimpy, I loved seeing them brought back, even if it wasn't quite the same as before. Besides, I've never seen an animation studio push the boundaries of TV cartoons the way Spumco does. See the clips here.

Comedy Central puts Chef highlights online

by Anna Johns, posted Mar 24th 2006 7:09PM
chef; online; comedy centralComedy Central has put a 'best of' Chef compilation of clips on the Motherload section of its website. If you're wondering why, read this and this. I'm assuming it includes the classic "Chocolate Salty Balls" song, but I can only speculate because Comedy Central's website doesn't like my Mac. Grrr.

Speaking of Chef and Scientology and all things wacky... South Park fans have launched a campaign to boycott this summer's release of Mission: Impossible III, starring Tom Cruise.

Mythbusters' lost experiments

by Adam Finley, posted Jan 16th 2006 4:23PM
otterIf you're a fan of Mythbusters you should check out this page over on the Discovery Channel's Web site, which features clips from the show that never made it to air. I always expected Adam's penchant for jokes sometimes wore thin on Jamie, and that's especially evident in one clip where Adam smears engine grease on Jamie's toilet, which Jamie doesn't respond to very kindly. My favorite clip, though, is the one featuring an otter swiping a ping-pong ball. It's cute, but it's also a tad scary considering that if the otter were harmed, someone would have ended up going to jail. Possibly a jail run by otters.
