Dean Pelton's Commercial Shoot Drives Everyone Mad on 'Community' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Nov 18th 2011 1:30AM
'Community' - 'Documentary Filmmaking: Redux''Community' (Thu., 8PM ET on NBC) didn't do itself any favors in being accessible and straightforward with its comedy this week, as Dean Pelton slowly unraveled from reality while filming a new commercial for Greendale.

That said, for those who subscribe to the show's particular brand of humor, Abed's documentary video chronicling the over-budget and over-time video shoot was a genius blend of absurdity and sheer confusion. Sometimes, like last week, 'Community' keeps it real and gives us character piece. And then other times, we get what basically amounts to a cartoon version of reality, like this week.

'Community' Sneak Peek: Greendale's Most Famous Alum, Luis Guzman, Stops By

by Maggie Furlong, posted Nov 17th 2011 5:05PM
Luis Guzman on 'Community'If you're a hardcore 'Community' fan, then you've probably already goatee'd yourself on social media sites in support of the show. You also probably know that Greendale's most famous alum is stopping by tonight (Thurs., Nov. 17, 8PM ET on NBC).

In 'Documentary Filmmaking: Redux,' Dean Pelton directs the gang in a new commercial for Greendale, which also features fan-favorite students like Magnitude (Pop pop!), Fat Neil, Starburns and Leonard. Also stopping by: the most famous former Human Being of all, actor Luis Guzman, who, as we know, also happens to be immortalized with a statue on campus.

And just like last season's documentary episode, Abed takes over a bit, filming the filming of the commercial for his own archives.

I caught up with the 'Community' cast on set to talk about the Real Luis Guzman vs. Statue Luis Guzman -- here's what stars Joel McHale, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Donald Glover and Gillian Jacobs had to say about "The Guz."

'Community': Show Your Support and Goatee Yourself!

by Chris Harnick, posted Nov 16th 2011 11:55AM
CommunityThe best way to show your support for 'Community' is to watch the show when it airs on Thursdays at 8PM ET on NBC, preferably with somebody who has a Nielsen box. Another great way? Goatee yourself on social media!

There are many fan campaigns taking off -- like the We Love 'Community' Tumblr, Occupy NBC Twitter and the 'Community' Twibbon -- and we thought the best way to show support besides actually watching (which we already do of course!) would be to pay homage to one of the best episodes of the season, 'Remedial Chaos Theory.' Now, with the help of Adobe, you can join the evil study group.

Save the goatee file below and throw it on your photos for Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, etc. to show NBC your support. While you're at it, give Maureen Ryan's open letter about saving Greendale a read and watch 'Remedial Chaos Theory' below!

Save Greendale! An Open Letter to the Head of NBC Regarding 'Community's' Future

by Maureen Ryan, posted Nov 15th 2011 12:40PM
The news that 'Community' has been benched for an indeterminate amount of time came like a punch in the gut on Monday.

Wait, what? Why am I, of all people, lamenting this very dark timeline for the low-rated NBC comedy? I'm not known to be one of 'Community's' most vociferous advocates.

Because the best part of this job is tapping into people's passions, and when I wrote about how much I loved 'Remedial Chaos Theory,' a wildly inventive and fantastically fun October episode of the show, I got a ton of feedback from 'Community' fans who were excited to share lists of their favorite episodes of the show.

Maybe 'Community' hasn't been my cup of tea every single week, but I absolutely love how much people adore it, and in a perfect world, the TV landscape offers range of shows that a wide variety of people wholeheartedly love, whatever those show's occasional wobbles.

That's why we need a Save Greendale campaign, which should not only involve felt beards but also letters to NBC (and if you have further ideas on how to save the show, please share them below). Here's my open letter to Robert Greenblatt, the chairman of NBC Entertainment:

NBC Has Good News for 'Grimm,' Bad News for 'Prime Suspect'

by Catherine Lawson, posted Nov 15th 2011 8:00AM
The annual programming reshuffle known as the mideason schedule launch is in full swing at the major networks. Since NBC unveiled its new lineup yesterday there's been much speculation as to the fate of cult fave comedy 'Community,' struggling newbie drama 'Prime Suspect' and brand new fairytale drama 'Grimm.'

It seems as though the cast and crew at 'Grimm' can rest easy for now. Deadline reports that the fairytale-based procedural has received an order for additional scripts. That doesn't mean it's out of danger yet, but it should avoid the ax for now at least. However, 'Prime Suspect' is still most definitely on the dreaded bubble, with Deadline quoting one source as saying NBC execs are "considering our options." Gulp.

Meanwhile, 'Community' stars took to Twitter to vent their spleen about the benching of their show.

NBC Announces 2012 Midseason Schedule

by Chris Harnick, posted Nov 14th 2011 6:21PM
NBC Midseason ScheduleNBC is doing a big midseason shuffle, putting '30 Rock' in the 'Community' timeslot, a move that could spell the end for the quirky cult-hit comedy. What else is changing? Well, quite a bit.

'30 Rock' returns to the Peacock on Thurs., Jan. 12 at 8PM ET, knocking 'Community' off NBC's schedule completely. New drama 'The Firm' takes the Thursdays, 10PM ET slot now held by 'Prime Suspect' and 'Whitney' swaps time slots with 'Up All Night.'

'Smash' hits NBC on Mon., Feb. 6 at 10PM ET, moving 'Rock Center' to Wednesdays at 9PM ET. However, those aren't the only changes. Check out the full schedule below for all the details.

NBC made no mention of 'Community,' 'Prime Suspect,' 'Awake,' 'Bent,' Betty White's 'Off Their Rockers' or 'BFFs' in their announcement. Per Vulture: NBC says 'Community' will return to the schedule, but no date has been given.

John Goodman's Vice Dean Tries to Recruit Troy to His Program on 'Community' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Nov 4th 2011 1:30AM
'Community' - 'Advanced Gay'It looks like Troy's 'Good Will Hunting'-esque storyline regarding his abilities as a handyman is going to be an ongoing theme this season on 'Community' (Thu., 8PM ET on NBC). This week it even involved John Goodman's Vice-Dean Laybourne, who tried to lure him into air conditioner repair with an elaborate, dreamlike initiation sequence.

We love the follow-up to the fact that Laybourne has an extravagant amount of money for his annex of the college, as evidenced by the "room temperature" chamber he brought Troy to. We did wonder, though, if Laybourne used the breath/retinal scanner to exit the room, how did Troy get out?

'Community' Star Chevy Chase Previews This Week's Episode, 'Advanced Gay'

by Maggie Furlong, posted Nov 2nd 2011 11:00AM
Chevy Chase, 'Community' - 'Advanced Gay'Sometimes I only have to hear the title of a 'Community' episode to know I'll love it. That's the case with this week's 'Advanced Gay' (Thurs., Nov. 3, 8PM ET on NBC).

I'd heard about 'RuPaul's Drag Race' stand-out Shangela guest starring, but when I visited the 'Community' set and saw rainbow flags everywhere and a script with that fabulous title on it, I got really excited.

And finding out that Shangela's scenes would be with Greendale's most inappropriate, unfiltered, racist, gaycist student, Pierce Hawthorne (Chevy Chase)? People, it doesn't get more awkward than this.

So I broke my 'Community' set visit streak -- no matter how many times I've been on that set, I never seem to talk to Chase -- and got a little scoop about Pierce's lesson in advanced gay from the man himself. Keep reading for more ... including Chase spouting terms like "a gay," "a straight" and "a tranny" in the most Hawthorne-ian of ways.

Seven Scary Stories And One Crazy Person on a Halloween 'Community' (VIDEO)

'Community' - 'Horror Fiction in Seven Spooky Steps'"Troy and Abed sewn together!" --Troy and Abed (sewn together)

Tonight's Halloween episode of 'Community' (Thu., 8PM ET on NBC) was about finding out who in the group might just legitimately be crazy, and while the group never finds out for sure, we almost do by the end.

To help figure it out, Britta coerces them into each telling scary stories, which leads to hilarious vignettes told in the voice of each storyteller. Annie's story was perhaps the most traditional, though romanticized as you might expect from a young person in this 'Twilight' era.

Advanced 'Community' Studies: Recommend Your Favorite Episodes of the NBC Comedy

by Maureen Ryan, posted Oct 18th 2011 11:45AM
A week or two ago, I answered your question in an "Ask Mo" column, an occasional feature around here. But I'd like to reverse that formula and ask you a question, if I may be so bold.

Last week, I watched 'Community' for the first time in a long time. And even though I was only partly caught up on the show's mythology -- I'd stopped checking in on the show about midway through season 2, but I'd read various stories about it since then -- I greatly enjoyed 'Remedial Chaos Theory.'

But my schedule in this timeline and every other one won't allow me to go back and watch all the episodes that I haven't already seen. So, dear readers, can you recommend a couple of your all-time favorite 'Community' outings?
