Conan Close to Moving Production Company to Warner Bros.
Though the ink is now dry on a new deal that will bring Conan O'Brien to TBS , there are still a few plot threads which need to be tied up -- one of those being where O'Brien's production arm, Conaco, will reside.
Luckily, it looks like Warner Brothers TV will swing in to give the production house a new home.
Previously, Conaco was partnered with NBC Universal, but that agreement is ending in May. As Conan and NBCU didn't part on the nicest of terms, Conan needed to find another support base. Turner Broadcasting doesn't make production deals, so it was up to older sibling Warner Brothers TV to come in.
While the deal has yet to be signed, sources say that an agreement is imminent. Meanwhile, Conaco still has an untitled legal drama in the queue at NBC under its current setup. Would it be considered irony if the drama got passed the pilot stage and became the biggest show on NBC since 'The Cosby Show?' Of course, that's if it even gets that far.
Conan signs a deal with NBC (no, not that sort of deal)
No, it's not for a late night show. In fact, it's not a show that Conan O'Brien is going to be in at all. It's for a show that O'Brien's production company is making. Conan and NBC have signed a deal for the pilot for Justice, a new drama about a Supreme Court judge who quits to open his own law practice. I'm assuming that "justice" is what the show is about and not the character's name, though "Jimmy Justice" would make a great name for the lead character (side note: Archie Bunker's original last name on All in the Family was Archie Justice, but I digress...). Not sure if it's a comedy or a drama, though I assume the latter. As part of the deal that the two sides struck last week, Conan's production company has to stay with NBC for the rest of the season. He will also get to host an hour-long show every Monday through Friday at 10 p.m. Hope that works out for you Conan, fingers crossed!
Adult Swim picks up sitcoms from Conan O'Brien, Rob Corddry
Two very unique comedies will get a time slot on an equally unique cable network. Conan O'Brien's "Conaco" production company and actor Rob Corrdry both scored spots on Adult Swim for two new live-action sitcoms.
O'Brien's company won a spot for Eagleheart, a show about a fading TV star who wins a chance for glory once more on a production in Texas, but constantly clashes with the low-level TV exec in charge of the show.
Corrdry's medical drama spoof web series Childrens' Hospital will also go to Adult Swim. The channel will show re-edited versions of the episodes that aired on TheWB.com as well as produce new ones. Corrdry originally pitched the show to Comedy Central, but negotiations broke down with the network, probably because the show didn't have enough bimbo strippers and shirtless fat guys to fill their quota (cough, Secret Girlfriend, cough).
