Conviction: Breakup
I thought this week's episode of Conviction was
much, much better than last week's episode. I still think that there are too many storylines in each episode, making it
hard to care too much for any particular character. But, the multiple storyline thing seems to be the M.O. for this
show. So be it.MSN, not iTunes, will stream first two episodes of Heist
While
NBC offered up free iTunes
downloads of the premiere episode of Conviction earlier this month, it's turning to Microsoft for its next
big drama. MSN will stream the first two episodes of Heist for one week after each episode airs, first on March
22 and then on March 29. A 16-minute preview of Heist is already available on
MSN. The deal with Microsoft gives a lot of promotion to Heist, including top billing on its TV and
entertainment pages. That's more promotion than NBC gets with Apple. But, does anybody watch streaming video anymore
when we can download and watch it at our convenience?Conviction: Denial
Is anybody else wondering where this show is
going? It's trying to balance a procedural drama, which is Dick Wolf's cup of tea, with a bunch of personal storylines,
which are usually not included in Dick Wolf shows. It seems clumsy, fragmented, and packed with too much information. I
still don't know any of the characters' names and I feel like I'm not getting any time to get to know them because the
show jumps from character to character so quickly. What's on tonight: Idol results, The O.C., Survivor, CSI, Beauty and the Geek

Conviction: an early review
NBC was kind enough to make the new Dick Wolf procedural
drama, Conviction, available for free on iTunes before it airs on
Friday night. So, I took advantage. I'm just going to give you my general thoughts on the program. There will be NO
SPOILERS HERE.If you like Law and Order, you will probably like Conviction. There are a lot of characters on the show who will make for some great storylines that will no doubt be driven by the criminals and crime victims. It looks as though we'll be getting two storylines an episode, instead of just one, like the usual Dick Wolf procedural dramas.
New programs for March 1-3
There are a TON of new programs coming up in March. I was
going to do one post with all of them but it is so long, I don't think anyone would read it. I sure wouldn't. So, I'm
breaking it up, week by week. This week, only three new shows hit the schedule. By mid-march, this list will be much longer.
- Free Ride, Sundays @ 9:30 pm on FOX (premieres Weds, March 1 @ 9:30 pm)
- Part scripted, part improvised, Free Ride is about a son who returns to his parents' home in Missouri after graduating from college. Interesting cast member: Mr. Allan Harvey, one of the pioneers who had a show on Comedy Central when it was just a start-up network.
- Spying on Myself, Wednesdays @ 10 pm on A&E (premieres March 1)
- I'm betting people didn't realize what they were in for when they signed up for this one. Willing participants are disguised and then they set out to talk about themselves to find out what their family and friends really think about them. I'm guessing they get their feelings hurt, otherwise where's the entertainment?
- Conviction, Fridays @ 10 pm on NBC (premieres March 3)
- Novice Assistant District Attorneys deal with workloads, judges, and victims in NYC. A preview is already available on iTunes.
Conviction available for free iTunes download
Ketchup at my local hot-dog vendor? Matches at the Qwik-Mart around the corner?
The pilot episode of Conviction on iTunes? What do they all have in common? They're free! But you better act
fast if you want to see the pilot of Dick Wolf's new NBC law drama. Starting this morning the episode will be available for download from iTunes but
it's only going to last two weeks until the show premieres on Friday, March 3. This is the first time NBC has made a
program available before it has had a televised premiere.
Fortunately, NBC is making it worth your time (besides the whole "free" thing) by including a behind the scenes featurette and a music video with the download. Once again, yay for free stuff. In other iTunes news, ABC has added episodes of America's Funniest Home Videos to their downloadable library.
Dick Wolf prepping another drama for NBC
I feel like a broken record. It seems like just yesterday
that I was telling you about a new drama
created by Law and Order creator Dick Wolf. That one is called Conviction and it begins after the
Olympics. Wolf already has another drama pilot in the works for NBC. This one is called Power, and it's
actually a little different from his other four shows currently on NBC. It's not a medical drama or anything. But, he
doesn't plan to wrap-up his stories at the end of each hour. This time, he's setting his story with a team of young
federal task force agents and U.S. attorneys investigating Hollywood power brokers (hence, the title) on a laundry list
of offenses including wiretapping and extortion. Wolf says the popularity of series like 24 and The
Sopranos show that there can be success beyond self-contained episodes. NBC hasn't greenlighted the pilot yet so
it's doubtful that we'll see Power in the fall.Martha Stewart: still a convicted felon
Remember how, when Martha Stewart agreed to go to jail, she said she was innocent and her lawyers would continue to
appeal? Well, their first attempt was an utter failure. On Friday, a federal appeals court upheld her conviction and
the conviction of Peter Bacanovic, her broker, but agreed to revisit Bacanovic's sentence. Not sure why, or really what
that means. Bacanovic already served his five months in prison and is now under federal court supervision. And so is
Martha. The duo was convicted of conspiracy, making false statements, and obstruction of justice for lying about a
stock trade. They were each sentenced to five months in prison and two years under court supervision. So far, Martha's
lawyers haven't made a peep about whether they'll be taking their case to a higher court. Personally, I kinda like her
as a convicted felon. It gives her a bad-ass edge, doesn't it?TV Squad Hot Topics
