We spoke to Paul Venoit, make-up artist on Canadian series 'Look-A-Like', for tips and tricks to make your costume the talk of the town. The TV series takes ordinary, everyday people and transforms them into whatever celebrity the person claims to look like.

The Costume: Don and Betty Draper, 'Mad Men'

What You'll Need: For Don you'll need some hair gel and a comb, a gray suit, a pack (or five) of cigarettes and an arsenal of cutdowns and witty retorts in your back pocket; for Betty, a perfect blonde 'do, a foam baby belly (here's a how-to ... bonus if you happen to be rocking the real thing) and the other half of Don's carton of smokes (fakes if you're in that "bonus" category, please).

Here's the Smallville superhero outfit

John mentioned that the new Superman outfit that Tom Welling will wear on Smallville this season was unveiled at Comic-Con. Here's the first look at the suit. Not sure if that coat is part of the permanent costume, but it sure is stylish.

Update: OK, I checked with The CW and it looks like the pic I had up here before wasn't the real outfit at all, just a cut and paste job someone on the web did. We'll have the real pic up soon, so stay tuned.

Bill Maher: Funny or no?

bill maher; steve irwin; crocodile hunterIt'll probably be a long time before Bill Maher is welcome in Australia. The comic is making headlines for dressing up for Halloween as the dead Crocodile Hunter, complete with stingray barb and bloody shirt. In its story about Maher's tasteless costume, the Sydney Morning Herald makes it sound like one-in-two Americans is going as dead Steve Irwin this Halloween.

Is it insensitive? You betcha. Funny? Eh. It's not laugh-out-loud funny, but more roll-your-eyes-and-groan funny. And it's not nearly as funny as South Park's reference to Irwin's death last week, which I thought was surprisingly tasteful and hilarious at the same time.

So... is the costume funny or not?
