Republicans Hate 'Jersey Shore,' Love 'The Bachelor'

by Chris Harnick, posted Dec 6th 2011 2:30PM
Democrat, Republican TV StudySnooki's poof apparently doesn't work its magic on Republicans.

A new study by Experian-Simmons found conservative-leaning viewers tend to favor reality programming like 'Dancing With the Stars,' 'The Bachelor,' 'The Biggest Loser,' 'MythBusters,' but one exception to that trend was 'Jersey Shore.' Also among GOP favorites is the History Channel's block of programming: 'Only in America with Larry the Cable Guy,' 'American Pickers,' and 'Swamp People.'

Two other popular liberal shows, 'Glee' and 'Modern Family,' topped the conservative list last year, but are no longer two of the favorite shows among Republican viewers, according to EW. They did, however, still rank high with those on the more liberal end of the political spectrum.

TV Turkeys: Playboy Club, Entourage, Cougar TownThere are plenty of shows to be thankful for, but 2011 was also the year for some major TV turkeys.

You know what we're talking about -- those shows or televised events that are just too horrific for even our "worst" lists of the year.

We've picked our top turkeys, included proof of poultry, and ranked them on a gobble-meter scale of 1-10, 1 being the least offensive or surprising in terms of suckiness, and 10 being scream-at-your-TV-in-anger levels of suck that we hope we never have to endure again.

Take a look at our list, then chime in down in the comments with your own top picks for the bottom of the barrel.

'Cougar Town' got dealt some bad news late on Friday afternoon, when it was left on the bench for the second half of ABC's fall schedule. Fans took to Twitter to vent against ABC's decision and wondered if this meant the beloved niche comedy was canceled. But before anyone could change their avatars in a 'Community'-style show of support, Deadline reported 'Cougar Town' would return in March, with its episode order cut from 22 to 15.

'Cougar Town' co-creator Bill Lawrence, who goes by VDOOZER on Twitter, joined fans in reacting to the unfortunate news. "Look, we will be back, and the show will be on for a long time (Parks and Rec style). Only people hurt by reduced order - crew and fans," he tweeted.

ABC Announces 2012 Midseason Schedule; 'Cougar Town' MIA

by Alex Moaba, posted Nov 18th 2011 6:15PM
ABC has announced its 2012 midseason schedule, and one wine-soaked comedy is curiously missing from the list. 'Cougar Town,' despite a planned cameo offensive, is nowhere to be found. However, an ABC source has told TV Line that it will be back "sometime in the spring."

Also missing: 'Don't Trust the B---- in Apt. 23,' the new comedy that was set to be paired with 'Cougar Town.' The only new comedy to get a premiere date is 'Work It,' the network's cross-dressing sitcom that's already been critically panned.

The Cast and Crew of 'Cougar Town' Judge 'Food Network Star' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jun 27th 2011 9:45AM
Dan Byrd & Busy Philipps, 'Food Network Star'The contestants on 'Food Network Star' (Sun., 9PM ET on Food) got to visit the set of 'Cougar Town,' where they were given the challenge of cooking for various members of the show's staff. Three of them (Susie, Justin D. and Whitney) cooked for the cast, where we learned that Busy Philipps has a pretty discerning palette.

!!SPOILER ALERT!!

When it came time for their critiques, the best they could muster up about Justin D. seemed to be support for his glasses. "He's got that sexy Harry Potter chef thing going on," Brian Van Holt said.

There were several problems with Whitney's dish. Paula Deen was on-hand as well, and she said, "it was just like a vegetable dish. It bored me out of my gourd."

'Cougar Town' Name Change: For Real This Time?

by Chris Harnick, posted May 31st 2011 11:25AM
Cougar TownBill Lawrence has been on a quest to change the name of his hit ABC sitcom from 'Cougar Town' to something else for more than a year. There was talk of it happening before season two, but it never happened.

Instead, the creators just mocked the name with new title cards, such as "Badly titled 'Cougar Town,'" every week. However, with a new season afoot, it looks like Lawrence and co-creator Kevin Biegel are opting for a name change, again.

"Screw it. I'm changing it (if Kevin's cool w it. Someone ask him for me)," Lawrence tweeted. "Seriously, we just decided. Will use fans to help w new title."

'Cougar Town' Season 2 Finale Recap

by Joel Keller, posted May 26th 2011 12:00PM
['Cougar Town' - 'Something Good Coming']

Most people who watched tonight's season finale of 'Cougar Town' are fans of the show and have been watching all season, so the observation I'm about to make isn't going to come as a big surprise: Somehow, a show about a bunch of neighbors hanging out and drinking wine has actually managed to develop some pretty interesting stories.

'Cougar Town' - 'Something Good's Coming'
Sure, last season there were some story arcs, namely Jules and Grayson getting together while Bobby worked out his feelings for his ex-wife. But for the latter half of season one and the first half of season two, the show was just trying to get its footing after shifting formats.

But as we close out the second season, you can see that some interesting storylines are setting themselves up for season three. So, while the Cul-de-Sac Crew might be gathering in Jules' kitchen with a few bottles of wine next season, there will be some fun stuff going on in between those visits.

A Few Thoughts on the Season Finales of 'Cougar Town' and 'Modern Family'

by Maureen Ryan, posted May 26th 2011 11:30AM
It's odd to be saying goodbye to 'Cougar Town,' which left the TV schedule for several months in the middle of the season. It feels as though we just got back into the groove again with the Cul De Sac Crew, and now they're gone again.

Still, Wednesday's hourlong season finale was a fitting and fun finish to the show's second season, which saw 'Cougar Town' solidify its status as one of the best comedies on television. I've also got a few thoughts on the season finale of 'Modern Family,' which wrapped up a slightly more erratic second season Wednesday as well.

Danny Pudi, Abed from 'Community,' Lingers in the Background of 'Cougar Town' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted May 26th 2011 8:55AM
'Cougar Town' - 'Something Good Coming'Maybe Abed's story to Jeff over on 'Community' about his making an appearance as a background character on 'Cougar Town' (Wed., 9:30PM ET on ABC) wasn't a lie. In a conversation between Lori and Travis that set up the gang's trip to Hawaii for the Season Finale, Danny Pudi was sitting behind them.

Clearly playing Abed, he was quirky and stiff, and finally turned and started looking directly at Laurie and Travis. When Laurie started getting more animated with her hands, Abed mimicked her, and at the climactic moment he inexplicably got up and ran out of the scene.

It was the second crossover appearance between the two shows. Ironically, Dan Byrd (Travis) and Busy Philipps (Laurie) appeared in the background in an earlier episode of 'Community.' Hopefully, the lovefest between the two shows will continue into next season.
