Annie and Danielle got to spend some quality sister time together on 'Covert Affairs' (Tue., 10PM ET on USA) in this season finale. It's just a shame it was while they were hiding from the rogue agent looking to kill them. These scenes brought a close to one chapter of Annie's professional life, and ushered in another as she coolly and confidently took down the agent in order to save her sister.

But as cool as she was in that moment, it still marked her first kill and that's not something you can simply brush to the side and move on. We were thrilled to see her and Danielle reach a reconciliation, and even more thrilled that Annie gets to come home!

Annie Walker just can't seem to catch a break.

In Tuesday night's Season 2 finale of 'Covert Affairs' (10PM ET, USA Network), Annie and her sister Danielle (Anne Dudek) are taking a vacation in Stockholm, but Annie can't seem to take a break from the CIA, and the last thing she wants is to get her sister Danielle involved in her dangerous line of work.

Is Annie being paranoid, or is there really something to be worried about? Judging by this clip, we can safely say that it's the latter.

Remember that Annie wasn't even supposed to be brought up to the big leagues quite as quickly as she was on 'Covert Affairs' (Tue., 10PM ET on USA). Nevertheless, she's proven herself savvy in the field, clever and maybe just a little lucky along the way. But it's the luck that concerns her.

After her more recent takedown led to her closest encounter yet with a whizzing bullet, Annie requested specialized training, and Joan quickly approved it. Now Annie will have some training and a greater confidence with a weapon when her luck's being tested, making her an even more impressive agent.

It's not all work and no play for spy Annie Walker.

In Tuesday's episode of 'Covert Affairs' (10PM ET, USA Network), Annie is assigned to track down her old friend, Mossad agent Eyal Lavin (Oded Fehr), who is in Washington posing as a CIA operative.

Why is Lavin in the United States and what does he want? Spies have various ways of discovering these things, and not all of them are unpleasant, as the clip below reveals.

USA is out to take on the big boys in the regular season with some of their biggest hits. 'Covert Affairs' (Tue., 9PM ET on USA) returned to the network, continuing its second season with an explosive episode.

Annie has been thrown out of her sister's house, which is actually a good thing for her character, but the friendly new chef she finds herself staying with on a temporary basis suddenly becomes a potential terrorist suspect.

Things take a decidedly dangerous turn when Augie advises her that they've found traces of explosive compounds in a safehouse, and she uses her own knowledge to guess that a bomb had been planted at the good chef's place.

Caroline enrolls herself and Max in a cake-decorating class to increase their skill level and take their cupcake business to the next level.

'Bored To Death' (9PM ET, HBO)
George encourages Jonathan to give Emily a night out with a younger man, but they end up entangled in a stakeout with a wannabe detective (guest star Brett Gelman) impersonating Jonathan. Elsewhere, George goes out with Bernard, but is surprised to find out that Richard Antrem (guest star Oliver Platt) is a rival restaurateur.

USA has renewed its original series 'Necessary Roughness,' 'Covert Affairs' and 'Royal Pains.' The pick-ups cap a strong summer for the cable network in terms of ratings. Each series has received a 16-episode order.

"USA's original programming blew through all expectations this summer. We had an unprecedented number of original series on our air -- and every single one of them was great," Chris McCumber and Jeff Wachtel, USA Network co-presidents, said in a statement.

"The actors who make our shows unique aren't just stars, they are character actors in the finest sense. Our writers, directors and producers truly understand what it takes to create sustainable success. It's a rare and wonderful thing to announce the pick-up of our entire summer of programming."

Earlier this summer, USA renewed its other originals: 'White Collar,' 'Suits,' 'Burn Notice' and 'In Plain Sight,' making them seven for seven in pick-ups.

William Petersen is planning a 'CSI' return to coincide with one very big exit.

According to TV Guide Magazine, Petersen will return to help longtime 'CSI' star Marg Helgenberger exit the series.

"[Petersen] told me he's going to come back this season to help us with Marg's exit," series star George Eads said.

Helgenberger is set to exit the series in January.

The last time Petersen made an appearance on 'CSI' was in surprise cameo in the Feb. 2011 episode 'The Two Mrs. Grissoms.'

In other casting news ...

Linus Roache is bringing back Michael Cutter, his 'Law & Order' character, for a spin on 'SVU.'

According to TVLine, Roache will appear in the Season 13 premiere of 'Law & Order: SVU.' The character now oversees the Special Victims Unit as bureau chief of the district attorney's office.

"I am very happy to be bringing Michael Cutter back to life and exploring how he has evolved into his new position of being a bureau chief and possibly even a mentor," Roache said in a statement. "I think Special Victims is going to be an area where Cutter's passion for justice can really come forth."

'Law & Order: SVU' premieres on Wed., Sept. 21 at 10PM.

In other casting news ...

What wouldn't a parent do for their children? On shows like 'Covert Affairs' (Tue., 10PM ET on USA) they often go to jail for them. In this week's installment, though, dear old dad was genuinely doing some bad things -- giving NASA secrets to a rebel Colombian army -- but he was doing it to protect his son.

Annie took that protection much more literally, as she wound up battling it out with a woman in an industrial complex with the kid looking on. Of course, this being Annie, she pulled off the win for the home team. But consequences being what they are, despite this being TV land, the kid's dad has to go away for his crimes.

In this week's Talking TV with Ryan and Ryan podcast, we take on a bunch of summer shows we haven't discussed yet.

But why the 'Game of Thrones' podcast logo? Well, that's here because I never got around to posting links to the the two epic 'GoT' podcasts we did with TV critics James Poniewozik and Myles McNutt last week.

Below you'll find links to those podcasts, plus running times for this week's discussion of 'White Collar,' 'Covert Affairs,' 'Franklin & Bash,' 'The Killing,' 'Camelot' and BBC America's re-airing of 'Battlestar Galactica.'

It was a lot more of the same as Season 2 of 'Covert Affairs' (Wed., 10PM ET on USA) kicked off. Annie got in over her head, but proved she still has very impressive instincts, and a healthy dose of luck to go with it.

For the premiere, we had to put Ben back in a position of absence-makes-the-heart-grow-fonder, but first how about some rekindled romance and danger to tie Annie's heart even closer to him.

Of course, we all know that she should be with Auggie. Even the actors and creators seem to know this, as the chemistry is so completely different with Ben than it is with Auggie.

'White Collar' and 'Covert Affairs' both kick off new seasons Tuesday (at 9PM ET and 10PM ET respectively), and though they both abide by certain USA Network formulas, in execution they couldn't be more different.

'White Collar's' return is a sprightly, enjoyable affair -- stylishly shot, well acted and deftly threaded with moral ambiguity -- whereas the spy drama 'Covert Affairs' is surprisingly leaden.

I could go on about what 'White Collar' is doing right these days -- and I will in a bit -- but first, after a year of trying to crack this show's code, I've finally figured out what 'Covert Affairs' is: It's the spy show by and for people who've never seen 'Alias.'

Piper Perabo plays a CIA agent on 'Covert Affairs.' Matt Bomer plays a con man helping the FBI sniff out other con men on 'White Collar.' The shows run back to back on the USA Network, and could soon get closer than that, as Perabo and Bomer revealed plans Monday on 'Today' (weekdays, 7AM on NBC) for a possible crossover episode of the two shows.

"I keep trying to get them to write a crossover," said Perabo. "It's going to happen," added Bomer. USA has done this before. Mary Shannon of 'In Plain Sight' once appeared on 'Law & Order: Criminal Intent.'

Break out that popcorn -- USA Network is bringing back its classic summer-fun programming with new episodes of hits such as 'Covert Affairs,' 'White Collar' and new shows including 'Suits' and 'Necessary Roughness.'

'Suits,' formerly known as 'A Legal Mind,' stars Gabriel Macht as a top corporate lawyer and Patrick J. Adams as Mike Ross, a brilliant college dropout. Gina Torres also stars.

USA's other new series, 'Necessary Roughness,' follows Callie Thorne as a therapist for a football team. She soon becomes the go-to therapist for big names in music and politics. Mehcad Brooks, Marc Blucas and Scott Cohen also star.
