I want my 24-hour anime
by Adam Finley, posted Mar 9th 2007 8:01AM
First of all, I have to give a big ol' Minnesota-style "thank ya" to those of you who recommend some great anime for me to check out. A Minnesota-style "thank ya" is like a regular "thank ya" except you say it while keeping a herd of rabid moose away from your snow fort with a hockey stick.
So that's what a $1500 teddy bear looks like
by Brett Love, posted Dec 22nd 2006 11:01AM
If you are scrambling to do last minute holiday shopping and had your heart set on a $1500 teddy bear for someone special, you waited too long. The auction went and closed on you when you weren't looking. I wrote a while back about The-N's charity auction. It's in full swing now and one result in particular shocked me. The bear you see pictured, which was given to Spencer (Gabrielle Christian) by Ashley (Mandy Musgrave) on South of Nowhere has gone for $1520. What the deuce? No, I didn't forget a decimal point.I could see that price if this was Trek, Buffy, X-Files, or some other show with a cult following. But this is South of Nowhere. It's hard enough just to find someone else that has seen the show. That's not to say it's a bad show, I never miss it, just that I never realized it had that kind of an audience. And the bear just barely edged out Aiden's (Matt Cohen) pants, which went for $1510. The bear is a nice collectible, but dang, that's a lot of cash. I think I'll stick with my plushy Ein from Cowboy Bebop and not spend the extra $1500.
Viewer takes over Adult Swim for one night
by Adam Finley, posted Aug 1st 2006 5:37PM
Last year Adult Swim and Burger King teamed up for a "Have It Your Way" sweepstakes in which the winner got to decide the Adult Swim lineup for one whole evening. Last year the winner included lots of Aqua Teen and Venture Bros., and this year the winner must like themselves a lot of anime, because that's all they've chosen. I don't watch much anime, but I do love FLCL, so it's nice to see the late night/early morning marathon will kick off with a mini-marathon of every FLCL episode. The viewer-chosen episodes will start the evening of August 5, so if you enjoy shows like Paranoia Agent, Trigun, and Cowboy Bebop, start popping those caffeine pills now. You could also just record the episodes, but that's not very manly.Which Sci Fi crew should you be on?
by Anna Johns, posted Feb 18th 2006 9:12AM
Yet
another quiz to keep you occupied for a few minutes this weekend.
This time, it determines which sci fi crew you should be part of. Be truthful when you fill it out, because it's easy to
answer questions that would get you placed on a certain firefly-looking transport.I was most compatible with Babylon 5 and Farscape, which I never watched. Probably because I'm comfortable with really weird-looking aliens. I think the reason I didn't get on board Serenity was because I wouldn't just follow a captain because he's the captain. And, I didn't get on the Nebuchadnezzar with Neo because I don't have stellar computer skills.
