Cyndi Lauper Wants to See More Women in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (VIDEO)

by Stephanie Opella, posted Nov 21st 2011 5:15PM
Cyndi Lauper visited 'Good Day NY' (weekdays, 9AM PT on Fox) to talk about the PBS documentary 'PBS Arts from Cleveland: Women Who Rock,' which she hosted. The documentary is a companion to the exhibit 'Women Who Rock, Vision, Passion, Power,' Greg Kelly asked Lauper if she was in the Hall of Fame herself. "I am, in this women's exhibit," she replied. Kelly was outraged at the injustice. "You're like in the Cooperstown Museum, not in the Hall. That is wrong," and Lauper agreed.

Chelsea Handler Suggests Cyndi Lauper Go Into Stand-Up Comedy (VIDEO)

by Aimee Deeken, posted Feb 16th 2011 5:15AM
Cyndi Lauper Jokes on 'Chelsea Lately'Cyndi Lauper is currently on tour performing songs from her latest album, 'Memphis Blues.' She told Chelsea Handler that blues was "the basis of all modern music -- unless it's gospel, but I didn't go to that church," she joked on 'Chelsea Lately' (weeknights, 11PM ET on E!). "I was at the folk mass with the priests that were mad 'cause it used to be in a foreign language and now it was in English."

"The music wasn't as good," but she appreciated the priests' fashion sense. "One guy had a purse that was on fire, and I just thought that was fierce." (Our guess is she's referring to incense smoke.)

With Handler and the studio audience in stitches, the host figured Lauper could ditch singing and start a solo comedy show "just talking." Lauper then quipped that the British didn't take to her particular brand of "Queens English," as in Queens in New York City, where she was born and raised.

Holly Robinson Peete Blames 'Apprentice' Editing, 'Loves' Cyndi Lauper (VIDEO)

by Aimee Deeken, posted Jul 22nd 2010 7:00AM
Holly Robinson Peete on 'Lopez Tonight'Holly Robinson Peete admits she wasn't "Miss Congeniality" on 'The Celebrity Apprentice,' as evidenced by the conflict between her and Cyndi Lauper. But she loves and admires her former cast-mate.

The runner-up explains on 'Lopez Tonight' (weeknights, 11PM ET on TBS) that the show is "a lot harder than it looks on TV. You have a very small window of time to complete these tasks. They put you with people who get on your last nerve."

Speaking of which, she says, "There's a little learning curve with reality [TV] ... Sometimes the editor is the writer. If you give them eye rolls and neck twists, they will cut to it. But I love Cyndi ... I really do respect her." The actress then went on to compare Lauper to Sly Stone, Peete's favorite musical icon.

The Fall of 'The Apprentice'

by Stephanie Earp, posted Mar 16th 2010 5:58PM

While watching the two-hour (read: interminable) debut of 'The Celebrity Apprentice' on Sunday night, I was trying to figure out if Cyndi Lauper is out of this show's league, or vice versa. Maybe I'm thinking about leagues because of all the previews for the new Jay Baruchel movie, but for some reason that's how the question phrased itself in my head. Has Cyndi Lauper really sunk this low?

'The Apprentice' used to be an A-list show when it debuted in 2004. Remember? It was a serious competitive reality show that was nominated for Emmys against shows like 'Survivor' and 'The Amazing Race', and for cinematography -- in other words, the gorgeous New York skyline shots that peppered the episodes. Back then, people watched the show and compared the tasks and the competitors to their own workplace.

Donald Trump's Ego is 'The Celebrity Apprentice's' Biggest Problem

by Joel Keller, posted Mar 15th 2010 7:29PM
Season 9 cast of 'The Clebrity Apprentice'
One of the mantras that any fan of 'The Apprentice' has heard over the show's nine Donald Trump-filled seasons is that "You never know who Mr. Trump is going to fire."

It's the aspect of the show that makes it unique in the sea of reality contest shows on the air right now. There's no panel of judges conferring on who should be eliminated, no one getting the ax because they came in last. No, the outcome of each episode is purely up to Donald Trump.

And that's where the show runs into its biggest problem, especially now that celebrities are involved.

It goes without saying that Trump's got an ego that's bigger than the tower that bears his name. But he's made firing decisions in the last couple of 'Celebrity Apprentice' seasons that really made me think he was acting more like a TV producer than a shrewd businessman. And if last night's season premiere is any indication of what Trump is thinking this year, 'The Celebrity Apprentice' is going to be tough to watch.

'Celebrity Apprentice 2': Who Will Win?

by Chris Jordan, posted Mar 11th 2010 4:00PM
Fired up for a new season of 'The Celebrity Apprentice'? Fourteen celebs -- of varying levels of celebrity-dom -- are working for a bonus of $250,000 to be donated to a charity of their choice. And maybe a chance to spark up a little interest in their careers, too.

Business mogul Donald Trump will do the firing once again, aided by son Donald Trump Jr., daughter Ivanka Trump and long-time adviser George H. Ross on this third season of 'Celebrity Apprentice.' The teams, incidentally, are divided by sex.

The action starts 9 PM ET Sunday on NBC. Before then, we've studied the field and calibrated who the likely winner will be.

Lady Gaga and Cyndi Lauper Speak on Women's Health, AIDS (VIDEO)

by Donald Deane, posted Feb 10th 2010 2:00PM
We're sure there's a positive message in here somewhere, but we think it's a little obscured by Lady Gaga's Christmas tree topper headdress. On 'Good Morning America' (weekdays, 7AM ET on ABC), Gaga and Cyndi Lauper spoke out on women's health, pointing to their friendship as the kind women need in order to promote awareness of AIDS.

"This is the kind of relationship that we want to be an example for young women," she said while holding Lauper's hand. "I really don't feel that there's enough women that are really educated about AIDS ... and we want to do good jobs as women who represent a sexual community and a strong, independent group."

Why is Carol Leifer doing Celebrity Apprentice?

by Bob Sassone, posted Jan 4th 2010 4:02PM
Celebrity ApprenticeThe cast for the next edition of Celebrity Apprentice has been officially announced, and...what a weird show this is. I think I mean that in a good way, I'm not sure. It does seem like one of those "so crazy I have to watch it" things (though I won't). Cyndi Lauper going up against Darryl Strawberry? Rod Blagojevich? Sharon Osbourne vs. Bret Michaels? Selita Ebanks vs...wait, who's Selita Ebanks again?

But the name that sticks out to me is Carol Leifer. She's a writer, stand-up comic, and the inspiration for the Elaine Benes character on Seinfeld. Doesn't she seem like the type of person who would dump on reality shows (especially celebrity reality shows) rather than be on one? Then again, even Jerry Seinfeld himself isn't immune from the lure of reality shows. He's producing one that debuts later this year.

Celebrity Apprentice #3 launches on NBC March 14.
