Jon Stewart Spoofs Glenn Beck's Fox Departure (VIDEO)

by Jeremy Taylor, posted Apr 8th 2011 6:15AM
Jon Stewart as Glenn Beck on 'The Daily show'Jon Stewart whipped out the glasses and the chalkboard, embraced the weird camera angles, and spent the first 20 minutes of 'The Daily Show' (Weeknights, 11PM ET on Comedy Central) reporting on Glenn Beck's departure from Fox News as if he was Glenn Beck.

Although the spoof was often longer in ambition than execution, Stewart did an excellent job of parodying Beckian logic in a nifty riff on the Nielsen ratings.

"People will tell you Glenn was fired because of plummeting ratings: 30 percent of his viewers have abandoned him, his audience's medium age is now dead of natural causes," Stewart-as-Beck-commenting-on-Beck hysterically explained.

Jon Stewart Proposes Geraldo Rivera Assume Leadership of Libyan Rebels (VIDEO)

by Jeremy Taylor, posted Apr 7th 2011 7:30AM
On 'The Daily Show' (weekdays, 11 PM ET on Comedy Central) Jon Stewart played some clips of the reporting Geraldo Rivera has been doing over in Libya for Fox News.

In the clips, Geraldo dodges bullets, strikes poses, and at one point seems to be barking orders at the rebel fighters. The last clip Stewart played was one of Geraldo reporting that the anti-Qaddafi rebels in Libya are so poorly trained that they would be a grave danger to themselves if they were given more powerful weapons.

"If only someone would come forth, take control of this control of this ragtag bunch," Stewart said, playing off what Geraldo had reported. "A charismatic brave somewhat narcissistic figure who already posses the confidence and the facial hair configuration of an old world guerrilla force leader."

Billy Crystal on 'The Daily Show'Billy Crystal was on 'The Daily Show' (Weeknights, 11PM ET on Comedy Central), where he told a story about the filming of Meg Ryan's famous orgasm scene in the movie 'When Harry Met Sally.'

Apparently, Ryan was nervous about making such personal noises in front of a bunch of crew and extras she didn't know. So director Rob Reiner, "a big bear of a man" as Crystal described him, decided to show her how to do it.

"So Reiner proceeds to have an orgasm that Mighty Joe Young would have," Crystal explained to Jon Stewart. "Oh it's huge, he's pounding the table. The little spice balls are flying off pickles."

Jake Gyllenhaal on 'The Daily Show'At the end of Jake Gyllenhaal's interview on 'The Daily Show' (Weeknights, 11PM ET on Comedy central) Jon Stewart asked him, "Are we going to hang out and play basketball at some point soon?"

"No we're not because you never called me back," Gyllenhaal responded, and then reminded Stewart that the last time he was on the show Stewart made the same basketball offer, but apparently didn't follow through.

"I was actually on the Conan O'Brien show the other day and I likened him to the Abraham Lincoln of talk show hosts," Gyllenhaal continued. "You, I liken to the Spud Webb of talk show hosts. So, yes, I would love actually to play basketball with you."

Jon Stewart: The US is to NATO as Beyonce is to Sasha Fierce (VIDEO)

by Jeremy Taylor, posted Mar 30th 2011 6:40AM
'The Daily Show'Jon Stewart has been skeptical of the United State's involvement in military action against the Libyan government ever since Operation Odyssey Dawn was launched about a week ago.

President Obama's speech Monday didn't do much to answer Stewart's questions about the mission, and, on 'The Daily Show' (Weeknights, 11PM ET on Comedy Central), Stewart mocked Obama's claim that the U.S. is de-escalating its role in the conflict by turning over authority to NATO.

"So there is an exit strategy. We turned over the mission to NATO! Man, I feel bad for whoever the sucker is that's the main driving force financially and weapon-wise in that organization, because those guys are ... wait a minute. We're NATO!"

Jon Stewart Calls Out NBC News For Not Reporting on GE's $0 Tax Bill (VIDEO)

by Jeremy Taylor, posted Mar 29th 2011 5:30AM
'The Daily Show'On Friday, The New York Times reported that General Electric paid no U.S. federal income tax in 2010, despite earning $14.2 billion in profits.

While the article got a ton of play across the media, Jon Stewart and 'The Daily Show's (Weeknights, 11PM ET on Comedy Central) crack team of video-watchers found that there was one particular media organization that completely ignored this stunning revelation on the day the news broke.

And that would be NBC. Which is owned by ... GE.

by Jeremy Taylor, posted Mar 24th 2011 6:20AM
Richard Lewis on 'The Daily Show'Comedian Richard Lewis was on 'The Daily Show With Jon Stewart' (Weeknights, 11PM ET on Comedy Central), where he spent his five-minute segment starting and stopping anecdotes and jokes, and never really getting to any point or punchline.

As the segment came to a close, Lewis attempted to tell a religious joke, but kept getting distracted by tangentially related things that were popping into his mind.

"Complete one thought," Stewart finally said. "Just one. You had five minutes. You can get one. Just one. Just follow one through."

Jon Stewart critiques the U.S. military operation in Libya. (Weeknights, 11PM ET on Comedy Central) returned from a one-week hiatus just in time for Jon Stewart to comment on the military action the U.S. and its allies have embarked on in Libya. Stewart came out critical of "Operation Odyssey Dawn."

"I don't want to be a pain in the ass, but don't we already have two wars?" Stewart pointed out. "You know wars aren't kids, where you don't have to pay attention to the youngest one because the older two will take care of it."

And that wasn't even the only family-relations based metaphor Stewart had crafted for America's latest military front:

Rod Blagojevich Plays 'Warlord' in 'Daily Show' Sketch on Wisconsin Labor Dispute (VIDEO)

by Jeremy Taylor, posted Mar 8th 2011 5:20AM
Rod Blagojevich on 'The Daily Show''The Daily Show With Jon Stewart' (Weeknights, 11PM ET on Comedy Central) sent correspondent John Oliver to the part of Illinois where 14 Democratic state senators from neighboring Wisconsin are hiding out rather than face a vote on a bill Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker has proposed, which eliminates the ability of many state workers to collective bargaining.

The premise of the sketch was that Oliver was in a place called "Ill-in-o-is, a desolate lawless region," and his "reporting" was in the style of a war correspondent who had found himself in a strange and dangerous land.

After doing such things as treating a fast food takeout window as if it was a military checkpoint, Oliver revealed that he'd "arranged a meeting with a notorious former warlord" because "apparently no one knows the region better than him."

Muammar Qadaffi on 'The Daily Show'Jon Stewart continued his 'Daily Show' (Weeknights, 11PM ET on Comedy Central) comedic assault on Col. Muammar Qaddafi Wednesday, offering a funny rebuttal to a clip of the embattled Libyan dictator claiming that he is not in charge of Libya because no such position exists.

"How can I step down, what from?" Qaddafi's English translator said in the clip. "I have no post to step down from. I don't have any position. I don't lead Libya. Libya does not have a leader or president or king. Libya is a state of the masses."

"Whoa, that is some existential bulls--t," was what Stewart had to say about that.

Howard Stern was the guest on 'The Daily Show' (Weeknights, 11PM ET on Comedy Central), where the topic of discussion inevitably turned to Charlie Sheen.

"Who is more insane: Charlie Sheen or Glenn Beck?" Stern asked Stewart.

"It's an interesting comparision," Stewart responded. "I'm going to go with -- and again, people may be surprised by this answer -- I would go with the guy whose skin you could flake off and smoke like crack. I'm going to go with Charlie Sheen."

Jon Stewart Accepts Donald Rumsfeld's Apology For The Iraq War ... But There's A Catch (VIDEO)

by Jeremy Taylor, posted Feb 24th 2011 5:50AM
Donald Rumsfeld on 'The Daily Show'Iraq War architect Donald Rumsfeld was long-time Iraq War critic Jon Stewart's guest on 'The Daily Show' (Weeknights, 11PM ET on Comedy Central.)

Before they got started, Stewart wanted to clear something up:

"Obviously, elephant in the room, tension between us -- I think I know why you're here, and let me just deflate the tension right off the bat: Apology accepted."

"No we can move on," Stewart continued, as the crowd cheered and Rumsfeld laughed. "Have a nice day, a nice conversation. I know this has been troubling you for some time now ... "

And the two did have a cordial and surprisingly funny conversation about some of the decisions leading up to the Iraq War. (And no, Rumsfeld never actually apologized for anything.)

Jon Stewart Mocks Anderson Cooper's Casual War Correspondent Lingo (VIDEO)

by Jeremy Taylor, posted Feb 23rd 2011 7:00AM
Anderson Cooper is a respected journalist who is always quick to report from dangerous trouble spots. He also speaks in an informal, conversational manner that can a bit jarring to hear from a newsman.

During Cooper's appearance on the 'The Daily Show' (Weeknights, 11:00PM ET on Comedy Central), Jon Stewart had some fun with Cooper's loose use of language.

"I've been doing war stuff for about 18 years," Cooper explained to Stewart, during a discussion of the current uprisings in the Middle East.

"Do you call it 'war stuff'?" Stewart wondered, causing Cooper to crack up.

"You know, front lines and s**t," Stewart continued to jest.

Then Stewart had a blunt message for those who have been equating the two:

"They're not the same in any f-----g way shape or form. At all. At all. Not at all," Stewart made himself clear.

January Jones and Jon Stewart discuss the lack of Jews in South Dakota.January Jones was on 'The Daily Show' (weekdays, 11 PM ET on Comedy Central) to promote her new movie, "Unknown," but she ended up spending almost her entire interview with Jon Stewart talking about her home state of South Dakota.

"How would I do [in South Dakota]?" Stewart wondered after hearing about the state for a few minutes. "Do they have Jews?"

"No," Jones said, knowingly shaking her head. "We don't."

"Could we set up a little preserve where Jews could roam freely?" Stewart suggested.

Jones joked that the Jews could roam with the buffalo, which lead Stewart to make an even more ridiculous joke in which he had South Dakotans petting the exotic Jews and declaring "They're much softer than I thought."
