'Dancing With the Stars' Recap: Week Nine Performances

by Katy Kroll, posted May 17th 2011 1:40AM
Go Big or Go Home was the unofficial theme of the semi-final showdown, and with the contestants having to do three dances each, it may have been the wildest night of ups and downs yet.

There were tears, butt pads, nip slips, unnecessarily nasty comments from the judges and jaw-dropping dances (both good and bad).

One thing's for sure, though ... we now have a clear front-runner: Hines Ward. And the chance of Ralph Macchio making the finals has all but vanished. The judges had their say and, unless there's a serious voter upset, the final three will surely be Hines, Chelsea Kane and Kirstie Alley.

Ralph Macchio Has a Rough Night With the Judges on 'Dancing With the Stars' (VIDEO)

Ralph Macchio & Karina Smirnoff, 'Dancing with the Stars'Ralph Macchio sported some odd posterior-padding for his Salsa, on suggestion of Karina Smirnoff, but it wasn't enough to salvage their performance in the eyes of the 'Dancing With the Stars' (Mon., 8PM ET on ABC) panel of judges.

The audience was on Macchio's side, booing Len Goodman as he said that "there was no real rhythm ... It was all too harsh, too in your face, too much attack."

But it was Bruno Tonioli who earned a censor beep when he shortened the term pussycat by one syllable in reference to Karina Smirnoff. She didn't seem pleased with him describing her with such a word, even if he was telling Macchio to be gentle.

Chelsea Kane Fulfilled Her Potential, Earned Perfect Score on 'DWTS' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted May 17th 2011 12:35AM
Chelsea Kane & Mark Ballas, 'Dancing with the Stars'After throwing out a perfect score to Hines Ward and Kym Johnson earlier in the night, the judges weren't done doling out 10s on 'Dancing With the Stars' (Mon., 8PM ET on ABC). Chelsea Kane hasn't been as sensational a personality this season, but she's made up for it with beautiful work on the dance floor.

This week, Kane and Mark Ballas achieved perfection on their Rumba. "Tonight you have fulfilled your potential," Len Goodman told Kane. "You're there."

"It was romantic and erotic, but perfectly pitched," said Bruno Tonioli. "It was stunning."

Kym Johnson Doesn't Let a Horrible Neck Injury Slow Her Down on 'DWTS' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted May 17th 2011 12:20AM
Hines Ward & Kym Johnson, 'Dancing with the Stars'It was a night of miracles, and perfect scores, on 'Dancing With the Stars' (Mon., 8PM ET on ABC). The most harrowing scene we saw was a catastrophic injury in rehearsal between Hines Ward and Kym Johnson.

"It was a difficult move," Ward said. "I was supposed to swing her through my legs and lift her up and all my weight just came down on the back of her neck."

Johnson was rushed to the hospital and had to practice in a neck brace, but amazingly she was recovered and ready to go by Monday's performance episode. And then, the pair went out and scored a perfect 30 for their opening Tango.

by Catherine Lawson, posted May 16th 2011 6:20AM
Hines Ward and Kym JohnsonAfter 'Dancing With the Stars' pro Kym Johnson was rushed to the hospital Friday, there were fears that she might not be able to continue in the competition.

However, after being released from the hospital over the weekend, Johnson's confirmed that she has been given the all-clear by her doctors.

The dancer turned to Twitter to give concerned fans updates on her condition: "I'm feeling better today" and "Thank you everyone for your concern, love and support," she Tweeted. "I'm a little shaken up, sore but I will be fine."

Johnson injured her neck on Friday while practicing with her 'DWTS' partner, Hines Ward. After tests, she was cleared for release and left Cedars-Sinai Medical Center wearing a neck brace.

'Dancing With the Stars' Pro Rushed to Hospital

by Katy Kroll, posted May 13th 2011 6:15PM
'Dancing With the Stars' pro Kym Johnson, whose partner is front-runner Hines Ward, suffered an undisclosed injury today while rehearsing for next week's performance show.

Apparently the couple took a nasty tumble at the rehearsal studio, reports E! Online, and it was bad enough that Johnson was rushed to the hospital on a stretcher while wearing an oxygen mask as her distraught partner looked on.

As the remaining contestants head into the semi-finals, Johnson's injury could potentially be a crushing blow to the Pittsburgh Steeler, who has impressed the judges and topped the leaderboard week after week.

'DWTS' Backstage Q&A: Romeo on His Exit, Why Kirstie Alley Really Wants to Win!

by Michael Maloney, posted May 11th 2011 7:00AM
Tom Bergeron, Brooke Burke, Romeo, Chelsie HightowerIt's always bittersweet leaving 'Dancing With the Stars,' especially right before the semi-finals. But rapper/actor Romeo, who was sent packing last night, can still hold his head up high. He and partner Chelsie Hightower gave impressive performances throughout the season.

It looked like Ralph Macchio and his partner Karina Smirnoff might be going home after an injury he received had contributed to them earning low scores from the judges on Monday. But 'The Karate Kid's fans rallied to support him and he survived to dance another day.

Romeo and Hightower walked the post-show press line to talk about their journey, and the four finalists -- Macchio, Kirstie Alley, Hines Ward and Chelsea Kane -- shared their hopes of taking home the coveted mirror ball trophy. Also, fan favorite Alley confided to TV Squad the real reason she wants to emerge as this season's victor.

Jimmy Kimmel Invites 'DWTS' Castoffs to Make Out on His Couch (VIDEO)

Chelsie Hightower & Romeo, 'Jimmy Kimmel Live'Once you're eliminated from a show like 'Dancing with the Stars,' you find yourself second-guessing your decisions that week. What could you have done differently? Often, you never quite figure it out. But for this week's castoffs, 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' (Weeknights, 12AM ET on ABC) provided the elusive answer.

Jimmy Kimmel immediately started in on the impromptu kiss Romeo gave Chelsie Hightower earlier in the competition. He wanted to know if that was a hint of perhaps a deeper connection between the two, and Romeo seemed more than game.

But Kimmel pointed out that they got a 10 from judge Carrie Ann Inaba for that performance with the kiss. "Did you consider kissing then and making out really the rest of the show?" he asked.

'Dancing With the Stars' Recap: Week Eight Elimination

by Katy Kroll, posted May 11th 2011 1:00AM
Forget 'The Karate Kid.' Ralph Macchio's biggest role right now is the lead in 'The Comeback Kid, Part 2,' as he managed to once again hang on for at least another week of 'Dancing With the Stars' after dragging the bottom of the leaderboard for the second time.

I had resigned myself to the fact that personal fave Ralph was most likely heading home because a knee injury forced him out of rehearsals and onto the dance floor sporting a limp. He wound up lagging behind everyone else by a whopping six points, and there's still no word yet on whether he'll be able to perform next week.

But his determination to win apparently made a real connection with viewers, who rallied to save him from elimination. (It probably helped that a lot of people remember the "sweep the leg" scene that led to Ralph's iconic crane move that transformed underdog 'Karate Kid' character Daniel LaRusso into an unexpected winner.)

'Dancing With the Stars' Week Eight Results: Who Was Eliminated? (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted May 11th 2011 12:40AM
Week 8 Elimination, 'Dancing with the Stars'If it were solely up to the judges on 'Dancing with the Stars' (Tue., 8PM ET on ABC), Ralph Macchio would have been eliminated last night. Dancing through a knee injury, the former 'Karate Kid' star racked up 46 points from the panel across two performances, while the other four competitors stacked up from 52 to 55 points.

Luckily for Macchio, there is an audience vote element as it gave him a chance. That said, it was a pretty big hurdle for his fans to overcome. Could they come through? If so, it was going to take a huge movement from his base.

More significantly, it Team Macchio came through and saves their 'Kid,' we'd be left with a virtual toss-up from the other four celebrities. Macchio is incredibly popular on the show. Is he popular enough?

'Dancing With the Stars' Week Eight Performance Recap: Kirstie Is 'Hot,' Ralph Crashes and Burns

by Katy Kroll, posted May 10th 2011 1:15AM
It was the last dance-off before the semi-finals, and there's still no clear front-runner on this season of 'Dancing With the Stars."

Monday night's performances were all over the map, with the leaderboard once again being shaken up like a snow globe. Neither of last week's toppers (Ralph Macchio and Hines Ward) were able to retain their front-runner status. In fact, while Hines only fell to the number two spot, an injured Ralph took a major tumble all the way to the bottom again.

It was an unfortunate downfall for someone I had hoped would make it to the finals. With just five contestants left, chances are that he'll be in serious jeopardy of going home next unless viewers vote to save him. Despite putting everything he had into his two dances, he just couldn't overcome a bum leg.

Kirstie Alley Hits New Highs, and Drops an S-Bomb on 'Dancing with the Stars' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted May 10th 2011 12:49AM
Kirstie Alley, 'Dancing with the Stars'Kirstie Alley got off to a great start on her night with a 28 for the Argentine Tango. That proved to be her best marks of the season, but she didn't sit back and tackled her second performance on 'Dancing with the Stars' (Mon., 8PM ET on ABC) with as much fervor and conviction.

During Bruno Tonioli's praise, Alley apparently dropped an s-bomb on live television, but the ABC censors caught it. In fact, they got so excited it looked like they tapped the button repeatedly several times.

Alley and her partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy both clapped their hands over her mouth, but both Tonioli and Tom Bergeron told her it was okay. "That's why we have people on a button," Bergeron explained. "Let them earn their money on the button back there."

Ralph Macchio Dances Through an Injury on 'Dancing with the Stars' (VIDEO)

Karina Smirnoff & Ralph Macchio, 'Dancing with the Stars'The top five couples took to the stage on 'Dancing with the Stars' (Mon., 8PM ET on ABC) this week, but one of the celebrities didn't get the practice time he was used to.

"At this point in a normal week, Ralph and I would have at least put in 40 hours of rehearsal already," said Ralph Macchio's partner Karina Smirnoff. "We've only done nine because of Ralph's leg injury."

Macchio had a cyst rupture behind his knee, but he wasn't going to let that stop him on the dance floor. He limped to and from the judges, but there was little evidence of his injury during either of his dances, though he did struggle a bit in the judges' remarks.

Backstage Interviews at 'Dancing With the Stars': Shocker! Romeo's Safe! Kendra Wilkinson on Her Exit!

by Michael Maloney, posted May 4th 2011 7:00AM
Kendra Wilkinson and Louis van Amstel on 'DWTS' ExitEven Romeo thought he and his partner Chelsie Hightower were going home on last night's results show of 'Dancing With the Stars.' But, it turns out that Season 12 is the season in which anyone can be ejected at any time -- even an improved dancer like Kendra Wilkinson, who not only has a huge fan base, but also wasn't in the bottom two in terms of scores from Monday night's show.

After Wilkinson and partner Louis Van Amstel, who she credits for her successful journey, did a final twirl on the dance floor the couple walked the post-show press line.

TV Squad was on the scene to get reactions from the ejected duo and the surviving five pairs, who weighed in on a variety of topics including how and why they've survived and what they need to do to make it to the finals.

'Dancing With the Stars' Recap: Week Seven Elimination

by Katy Kroll, posted May 4th 2011 1:35AM
Finally! The last of the dead weight has been dropped from 'Dancing With the Stars.' It was the elimination I had been salivating over for weeks, because now the competition is really on.

During Monday night's performances, the leaderboard got shaken up once again, with first-time front-runner Romeo plummeting all the way to the bottom and Ralph Macchio shooting from the bottom to the top for the third time. All the contestants had to perform two routines -- an individual dance and a group number -- with the two scores being combined.

Dragging the bottom of the leaderboard alongside Romeo was Kirstie Alley, who, even though she suffered a fall and lost a shoe in past weeks, had yet to find herself in serious jeopardy of elimination until she raked in her lowest scores to date. Meanwhile, aspiring lap-dancer Kendra Wilkinson somehow managed to pull in a better score, albeit by just one point. Week after week she skirted elimination when she should have been the one to go, seemingly becoming this season's version of Bristol Palin.
