'Dancing With the Stars' Season 13 Semi-Finals: Hope's Attitude and J.R.'s Injury

by Crystal Bell, posted Nov 14th 2011 11:35PM
dancing with the stars season 13 semi-finals After tonight, I'm not sure the 'Dancing With the Stars' judges want Maks to continue on this season -- or any other season. Things got pretty awkward during the judges' critiques of Hope Solo and Maks' sexy-but-clumsy Argentine tango. When Carrie Ann started to criticize their sloppy lifts, she called out Maks for smiling.

"That's fine, Maks, you can go ahead and keep smiling," she said, thinking that the professional looked a little too smug for her liking. Maks looked visibly stunned. I was pretty stunned too. I'm still not sure what she meant. Was he smiling inappropriately?

Well, this didn't exactly go over well with Hope, who, after weeks of tension, exploded. "Maks was smiling because we should be smiling," the soccer star told Brooke Burke. "So Carrie Ann, thank you, Maks was smiling. This is my partner. Finally, we're happy!" Maks tried to stop his partner from making his previous mistake, but the damage was already done.

Unfortunately, for Hope, Carrie Ann wasn't smiling when she gave the pair an 8.

Hope Solo on 'Dancing With the Stars': All About the Soccer Star

Hope SoloWhile Los Angeles Laker Ron Artest is filling the "pro athlete" spot on the male side of the 'Dancing With the Stars' roster, Hope Solo is representing the athletic ladies during Season 13.

Solo, the 30-year-old star goalkeeper from the U.S. women's national soccer team, made headlines this summer when she made several stellar plays during the Women's World Cup. She's played on the national team for more than a decade, but it was a save in the nail-biting shootout against Brazil that clinched the U.S.'s bid in the semifinals and brought Solo into the national spotlight.

J. R. Martinez on 'Dancing With the Stars': All About the 'All My Children' Actor

by Jean Bentley, posted Aug 29th 2011 9:50PM
JR MartinezJ. R. Martinez might be familiar to daytime TV fans, but chances are the rest of the world doesn't know much about the 28-year-old actor, who has signed on to compete during Season 13 of 'Dancing With the Stars.'

Martinez currently plays Brot Monroe, the presumed dead love of Lt. Taylor Thompson (Beth Ehlers), on ABC's soon-to-end soap opera 'All My Children.' (Good timing for the new gig, right?)

But before his life as a famous actor, Martinez served as a U.S. Army infantryman in Iraq, where he sustained burns over 40 percent of his body in 2003. After almost three years spent recovering from his injuries, the Louisiana native, who also grew up in Arizona and Georgia, began working as a motivational speaker.

'Dancing With the Stars' 2011: Season 13 Cast Announced

by Jean Bentley, posted Aug 29th 2011 9:47PM
'Dancing With the Stars' emcees Tom Bergeron and Brooke Burke were on hand Monday night to announce which celebs have signed up to samba on Season 13 of the ABC reality show. The live announcement, which took place during ABC's summer hit 'Bachelor Pad,' brought us several surprises.

Aside from the usual sports stars, soap stars and reality stars, 'DWTS' strayed from the formula a bit. For one, there's nary a Disney starlet in sight. Who's this season's Chelsea Kane? Could former 'Hills' troublemaker Kristin Cavallari have hidden dance talent we never saw? And in a move that could be controversial to some, Cher's son Chaz Bono, who was born a woman, will paso doble with a female 'DWTS' pro during Season 13.

'Dancing With the Stars' Season 13 cast

As far as fan favorites go, we've got our money on Iraq war vet and 'All My Children' actor J.R. Martinez on the men's side, and maybe former talk show host Ricki Lake or Wilson Phillips singer Chynna Phillips for the nostalgia vote on the ladies' side.

'Dancing With the Stars' Season 13 premieres Mon., Sept.19 at 8PM ET on ABC.

Meet all of Season 13's cast below, and then tell us who your early favorites are!

Latest 'Dancing With the Stars' Cast Rumors: Queen Latifah, Snooki, Tiffani Amber Thiessen

by Jean Bentley, posted Aug 12th 2011 4:00PM
Queen Latifah, Snooki, Tiffani Thiessen, Dancing With the StarsDerek Hough announced Friday that he was returning to 'Dancing With the Stars' after taking the spring season off, and now TMZ is reporting that he'll be joined by several famous women.

According to TMZ, Queen Latifah, Tiffani Amber Thiessen and 'Jersey Shore' star Snooki will all compete for the mirrorball trophy on Season 13 of 'Dancing With the Stars.' Although these are only rumors, TMZ has been right before. Besides, Us Weekly reported on the Snooki rumor a few weeks ago.

Elsewhere in the 'DWTS' rumor mill are Christina Milian, Rob Kardashian (both named in the Us Weekly report) and Lindsay Lohan's mom, Dina. Though we're pretty sure the Kardashian one is true, we're a little skeptical of the latter -- especially since producers have apparently decreed that they only want bigger name stars this fall.

Derek Hough Returning to 'Dancing With the Stars'

by Jean Bentley, posted Aug 12th 2011 2:00PM
Derek HoughDerek Hough is keeping his promise and returning to 'Dancing With the Stars' this fall.

The pro dancer took this year's spring session off to explore acting and shoot an indie film, but the 26-year-old told People magazine of the upcoming fall season, "I will be back!"

Hough won the mirrorball trophy two seasons in a row before taking season 12 off to shoot the dance movie 'Cobu 3D,' for which he gained 10 pounds of muscle. The dancer-turned-actor said in January, "I'm just taking a little break and taking this chance to grow and expand a little bit as an artist."

As for his perspective after his hiatus, he said, "It was good for me to take a season off and see what he audience sees. It gave me a new boost and inspiration to want to do some great things."
