Dark Blue -- An early look

by Jane Boursaw, posted Jul 13th 2009 2:03PM
Dylan McDermott in Dark Blue
I've been really curious to see what TNT's Dark Blue is all about. It's got a few things going for it right off the bat: producer Jerry Bruckheimer and lead actor Dylan McDermott. I can't say I'm all about the police dramas, but those two guys made me want to check it out.

Plus, it's on TNT, which has been running edgier shows lately, like Saving Grace, The Closer, and Leverage. The network is sort of a cross between HBO and USA, with some FX thrown in.

On my first viewing of the Dark Blue pilot, it came across as just another procedural about a brooding cop (McDermott) whose team walks the line between right and wrong. But I knew in my heart there was more, so I watched it again.

TNT is turning New York City into Los Angeles

Dark Blue ad

The picture above isn't from a Los Angeles street, it's from a New York City street. TNT is creating some ambitious marketing for their new cop drama Dark Blue. They're turning part of NYC's subway into "underground L.A." Included in the ad campaign will be posters, signs on staircases, even entire subway cars wrapped in pics that show the L.A. skyline. The show starts on July 15.

TNT putting together a network-killing summer schedule

by Jason Hughes, posted Apr 30th 2009 9:30AM
Leverage

When the networks go into summer hibernation, it's time for the cable networks to come out and play. While they've been making inroads with fall and spring original programming, most cable networks stick to the summer frame where competition is light and they put up huge numbers that NBC would envy. TNT added a few shows to achieve a three-night schedule of original programming this summer, bringing it closer and closer to full network programming levels. And TNT knows a thing or two about massive ratings hits.

They're coupling smash hit The Closer at 9 PM ET with Raising the Bar at 10 on Mondays starting June 8. Bar launched huge and secured a renewal before everyone realized what a huge steaming pile of crap it was. So now it's got the cushiest timeslot on the network to try and win back all the viewers it pissed away. Let's hope they've improved the product and Felicityed Mark Paul-Gosselaar's hair.
