'Glee' Cast Shake-Up: One Heartthrob Out, Two Promoted to Series Regulars

by Maggie Furlong, posted Jul 1st 2011 10:45PM
Chord Overstreet, 'Glee'Oh, 'Glee' ... you're already on thin ice. You know that. So why are you going to take away one of the fan-favorite castmembers?

TVLine is reporting that Chord Overstreet -- who joined the cast last fall as transfer student and all-around ladies man Sam -- will not be returning as a series regular next season. That means Sam will probably be transferring out of McKinley for good, although a source did say he could return as a guest star for a few episodes.

Tonight, after receiving the news, Overstreet took to Twitter, saying: "It's been a good year. Too bad it's over. Time for summer and starting fresh."

There is a silver lining to this very dark 'Glee' cloud though: Darren Criss (Blaine) and Harry Shum Jr. (Mike) will now both be full-time series regulars, starting with Season 3 this fall.

Darren Criss Stays Mum on 'Glee' Finale, Geoff Stults Gives Hugs & More From Fox's Upfront Party

by Jean Bentley, posted May 16th 2011 11:45PM
Michael Clarke Duncan, Geoff Stults, The Finder, FoxNo matter how much you ask, Darren Criss won't tell you anything about the 'Glee' finale.

Despite the number of times AOL TV pressed him for intel at tonight's Fox Upfront party, he wouldn't spill any details. Of course, that could be because he isn't actually in the episode. He was in New York when the cast visited a few weeks ago to film, so that could've caused some confusion.

"I was here when they were shooting so I just went to say hi," he told us.

Though Criss was spiffed up in a suit when we chatted, earlier he had joined the Dalton Warblers in donning one of those ubiquitous red-piped blazers to sing 'Hey Soul Sister' at Fox's presentation today. Naturally, that led to the most hard-hitting Warbler-related question of them all: How often do those blazers get washed?

"Oh, never!" he joked (we think).

The Warblers Sing 'Hey, Soul Sister' on 'Today' (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Apr 19th 2011 3:10PM
Darren Criss and the Warblers from 'Glee' on 'Today'The Warblers used to be a fictional a cappella group from 'Glee.' They are a little closer to being a real group, with an appearance on 'Today' (weekdays, 7AM on NBC) and a new album, 'Glee: The Music Presents the Warblers.' On the show, the Warblers are given voice by an a cappella group called The Beelzebubs, the Tufts University troupe who also competed on 'The Sing-Off.' Actors Chris Colfer and Darren Criss handle their own leads.

It was the actors from the show backing Criss on the 'Today' appearance, on which the Warblers sang the Train hit 'Hey, Soul Sister.' The Warblers' version of Katy Perry's 'Teenage Dream' hit reached no. 1 on the Billboard charts with Criss singing, something he still has a hard time believing. "It just happened so quickly and we've all been so thrilled that there's been such a positive reception," said Criss.

Criss said the 'Glee' schedule keeps him pretty busy, and he hasn't had time to think about a solo album yet. He said it certainly isn't out of the question, and it's a safe bet the opportunity will present itself.

Would You Watch a 'Glee' Spin-Off Starring Darren Criss?

by PopEater Staff, posted Apr 9th 2011 11:00AM
Darren Criss'Glee' hottie Darren Criss hit the Oxygen upfronts to promote 'Glee,' the reality show 'The Glee Project'... and talk about his own spin-off? Just maybe, according to Access Hollywood.

"Hey, I'm just happy to be invited to the party," Criss said. "A spin-off, whatever they want, I'm happy where I am."

Criss joined the cast of the hit singing show this season as a member of the Dalton Academy's Warblers, an all-male singing group. His character, Blaine, is gay and serves as a friend and love interest for Kurt, played by Chris Colfer.

Though the speculation of a spin-off is just an idea at this point, Criss said he's in if the project ever takes shape.

"I think Blaine serves a really cool function in the grander scheme of 'Glee,' so I don't think we need to focus particularly -- you know, but if they want to do it, hey, I'm down! Whatever they want," he said.

In the video, Jane Lynch and Matthew Morrison carpool to go green. However, things don't go so smoothly when Morrison begins to sing every song on the radio. Lynch's sharp delivery cuts him down time after time.

If video isn't your 'Glee' cup of tea, be sure to check out the cover of Keane's 'Somewhere Only We Know.' It's a new Darren Criss ballad classic. We can only imagine what Kurt's doing during this scene.
