Pete Kleinow, steel guitarist for the Flying Burrito Brothers who also played with several big names in the music business, passed away Saturday at the age of 72 from complications brought on by Alzheimer's disease.

Kleinow also had a career in television and film. He worked as an animator on the original Gumby series and also wrote and performed the theme song. His other animation projects included Davey and Goliath, Land of the Lost, and commercials for Pillsbury featuring Poppin' Fresh. He also worked on visual effects and animation for such films as Gremlins, the first two Terminator films, Army of Darkness, The Empire Strikes Back and Holes.

In 1983, Kleinow won an Emmy for his visual effects work on the ABC miniseries The Winds of War, which chronicled the world events leading up to Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor.

Well, OK, I'm a day behind with this. I blame Christmas and lots of food and booze. Looks like it's not a big week for DVD releases anyway:

Adult Swim has been somewhat circumspect about whether or not Moral Orel --the stop-animated double homage to both Davey and Goliath and blasphemy which debuted as a Christmas special last month-- would be picked up as a full series. While tuned in to Adult Swim last night I caught a "bump" which stated that six episodes would be coming soon. Unfortunately, that's all I have to go on. I've scoured the internet and found nothing at all about this, although there is plenty of stuff from earlier in the year, claiming the show was supposed to be picked up in November for TEN episodes. Well, whatever. I enjoyed Moral Orel: The Best Christmas Ever, and I'm looking forward to what they come up with next.
