New Fox comedy from Pineapple Express director

Since when is David Gordon Green a comedic director? I mean, sure the guy did Pineapple Express -- and it was funny, but have you ever caught any of his previous movies, like All the Real Girls, Undertow or Snow Angels? All of them have their merit (my personal fave is All the Real Girls, starring Zooey Deschanel and the undersung Paul Schneider), but there's really nothing in them that would hint that Green, who wrote and directed them all, had a comedic bone in his body. But apparently, not only is he a writer-director of funny movies now, but he's also a writer of animated sitcoms.
Or at least one -- the Hollywood Reporter's got word that Fox has picked up Good Vibes, which he's writing, about a "crazy group of high school students living in a Southern California coastal community." Huh? Green was born in Arkansas, raised in Texas and went to college in North Carolina. Where's he coming up with the inspiration to write about high schoolers in the OC? And where's this new comedy stuff coming from? Guess the guy's expanding his repertoire. If the series shows the comic chops of Pineapple, I wouldn't complain. I'm just a little puzzled, is all. What do you think?
