Diane Sawyer Leaving 'Good Morning America' After This Week
Now it's official: On this morning's broadcast of 'Good Morning America,' co-host Diane Sawyer confirmed what industry wags had predicted all along: she'll leave 'GMA' at the end of this week in preparation for taking over for Charles Gibson, who leaves 'World News' on Dec. 18.
Sawyer will begin anchoring 'World News' Dec. 21, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
With Sawyer's departure from 'GMA,' there's a seat on that program left to be filled -- and late last week we reported that George Stephanopoulos, ABC News' chief Washington correspondent and longtime host of the Sunday morning news program 'This Week', has been offered the gig, although no official word has been made.
If confirmed, this will also leave a hole in 'This Week' to be filled, perhaps by Robin Roberts, next year.

Are ABC News' Charles Gibson and Diane Sawyer at War?
Charlie Gibson may be leaving ABC News' top job, as nightly 'World News' anchor, voluntarily at the end of the year, but that doesn't mean he's making nice with his successor, Diane Sawyer.A report in the New York Post cited anonymous sources at ABC News as saying Gibson is openly hostile toward his former 'Good Morning America' co-host. "Charlie has always given Diane the stink eye," an unnamed ABC insider told the Post. "He bad-mouths her openly and often."
Robin Roberts Lands ABC Primetime Specials
With Diane Sawyer preparing to go head to head against Katie Couric on the evening news, and with the legendary Barbara Walters, at 80, still competitive but starting to slow down, ABC has to start grooming more women for its news franchises. A brave-faced Rihanna confessed to being ashamed of what happened between her and Brown. "There are a lot of women who experienced what I did, but not in the public. So, it made it really difficult," she told Sawyer. "I just felt, 'Oh my god, here goes my little bit of privacy.' It's something that nobody wants anybody to know."
George Stephanopoulos Should Replace Diane Sawyer on 'Good Morning America'
It's less than three months until Diane Sawyer replaces the retiring Charlie Gibson as the anchor of ABC's 'World News,' and yet there's no word on a successor for Sawyer as the star of ABC News' cash cow, 'Good Morning America.'You'd think the network would be auditioning newswomen for the post, but according to the Los Angeles Times, the network wants a man -- someone who, along with current 'GMA' co-host Robin Roberts, would restore the Ma-and-Pa dynamic that's been traditional for eons on network morning news shows. ABC is also looking to hire from within, the Times reports.
