'MythBusters' Apologize for Cannonball Accident

by Catherine Lawson, posted Dec 8th 2011 5:45AM
'Mythbusters' cannonball accidentYesterday came news that the 'MythBusters' team had accidentally fired a 30-lbs cannonball through a house. Although on the face of it, it seemed like a pretty funny story, more details have since emerged that show how lucky local residents were to escape injury.

According to 'The San Francisco Chronicle,'
the cannonball travelled straight through the Shetty family's house, exiting through the exterior wall of the master bedroom as mom Seema was napping in the room with her two year-old son. After traveling a total of 3,300 feet, the cannonball eventually came to rest in Satwinder Gill's minivan. She told ABC-7 News that "my husband and son were in the car five minutes before it happened."

'MythBusters' hosts Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage -- who were not present when the accident happened -- travelled to Dublin, California to meet with the families affected by the accident and to apologize. Savage told 'The San Francisco Chronicle,' "It's a wake-up call. Honestly, the feeling of embarrassment is not something we're indulging in right now. We feel for the families and the people affected by this."

'MythBusters' Sends Cannonball Through Home -- By Mistake!

by Chris Harnick, posted Dec 7th 2011 11:15AM
Mythbusters CannonballThe producers of 'Mythbusters' apparently never learned not to play ball near the house. When testing out a stunt in Dublin, California, a cannonball struck a home, leaving holes in the walls after "a few unfortunate bounces," as the local sheriff's department spokesman explained.

According to MSNBC, a projectile from an Alameda County firing range missed its target and hit a home, going through one wall and exiting through another.

There were no injuries and no word on what exactly the 'MythBusters' experiment included.

Which Bike Won the Build-Off on 'American Chopper Live'? (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Dec 7th 2011 12:00AM
'American Chopper Live: The Build-Off'After all that build-up and anticipation it was finally time to see who was the winner of 'American Chopper Live: The Build-Off' (Tue., 9PM ET on Discovery). The guys showcased their bikes and talked a little bit about them, with Jesse James keeping up the trash talk until the last minute.

"Punking people and building bikes just for TV, like these two right here," James said of the Tuetels. "Someone needs to build something that you could actually get on this thing and ride it."

"He's all talk," Paul Teutel, Jr. said. "He wants you to pretend he's something he's not, and the proof is in the pudding. I'm not a bike builder? What's that behind you, Jesse?" But who did America choose as the winner of The Build-Off?

Jesse James Destroys Gifts From Senior on 'American Chopper' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Dec 6th 2011 1:30AM
'American Chopper: Senior vs. Junior'The two-night event, 'The Build-Off' kicked off with Jesse James, Senior and Junior finishing up their bikes on 'American Chopper: Senior vs. Junior' (Mon., 9PM ET on Discovery). During the process, the three have had some fun with one another, sending goofy things back and forth.

But after Junior accused Senior of sending him the inappropriate cake Jesse James sent to both of them last week, James decided it was time to focus his hate. "Senior can't be that bad of a dude, 'cause one of my closest ... friends for the last 20 years works for him," James said. "And this guy wouldn't work for him if he was a d***."

Jesse James American ChopperJesse James is going head-to-head with Paul Teutul, Sr. and Paul Teutul, Jr. as part of 'American Chopper Live,' (Dec. 5 and 6, 9PM ET on Discovery) and he's not afraid to stir the pot.

In the exclusive clip below, James compares his style to that of the Teutuls.

"I don't build anything that I can't ride," he said. "Like riding, fitting me, going fast, stopping fast, all that stuff is first and foremost before I even think about style or anything else. Paul Senior and Paul Junior ..."

Check out the video below to see what he has to say about the Teutuls and what he calls "bulls---."

Jesse James Starting Trouble on 'American Chopper: Senior vs. Junior' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Nov 22nd 2011 5:30AM
'American Chopper: Senior vs. Junior'Jesse James succeeded with his intention of stirring up some trouble with the boys on 'American Chopper: Senior vs. Junior' (Mon., 9PM ET on Discovery). Apparently there was talk of a build-off between James and the Pauls before the father and son split. Now there are three separate organizations, but James decided to target the Teutuls equally with a special gift.

Upon looking at the completely inappropriate cake James sent, Senior got a message but we don't think it was the one James was trying to send.

"All these woman problems that he talked about," he said after seeing the graphically anatomically correct cake. "It makes me think about that now and why that could possibly be."

Donald Trump Provides the Answer on 'What's America Worth?' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Nov 14th 2011 6:00AM
Donald Trump, 'What's America Worth?'When you read about the staggering $15 trillion debt that America has racked up, it can lead you to wonder if we'll ever be able to get out from under it as a nation. Just for fun, Donald Trump and the Discovery Channel asked the question, 'What's America Worth?' (Sun., 9PM ET on Discovery).

Now this is assuming that the country is basically being liquidated, with all of its assets converted into cold, hard cash, including its citizens. Trump also accounted for that massive debt. But while our natural and rural resources couldn't touch it, we quickly overcame the debt when you factored in our development, military and citizens. Final tally, after paying off that debt: $280 trillion.

EXCLUSIVE 'Gold Rush' Sneak Peek: Will Fights Tear the Family Apart? (VIDEO)

by Maggie Furlong, posted Nov 9th 2011 10:00AM
Jack Hoffman, 'Gold Rush'You've probably seen ads touting 'Gold Rush' as the #1 show on TV, and they aren't joking -- last week's episode topped the ratings in all of primetime for men ages 18-49.

What keeps the viewership so high? Drama. We've got an exclusive clip of this week's new episode (Fridays, 9PM ET on Discovery) featuring an argument between father-son gold miners Jack and Todd Hoffman.

Todd's got a new D8 bulldozer that'll hopefully help give the guys a win. "It's a do-or-die situation for a lot of these guys -- and for me also," says Todd's dad Jack. "If we don't get gold this time, we're in trouble." But that doesn't stop him from driving the dozer around like a toy.

Todd gets mad but still manages to censor himself instead of really laying into his dad. ("No shoot, Sherlock!" is a new personal favorite.) But dad Jack is not as reserved: "I don't give a f***!"

Will Jack give up on the dream? Will the father-son fighting make things harder on the crew? Watch this clip to see more ...

How Evil Are You? Horror Guru Eli Roth Investigates

by Maggie Furlong, posted Oct 28th 2011 12:00PM
Eli Roth, host of 'How Evil Are You?'Are you evil? And if so, how evil? Discovery Channel's Curiosity series tapped horror movie writer-director and actor Eli Roth -- yes, the man behind the decidedly evil 'Hostel' franchise -- to find out in their new special, titled 'How Evil Are You?' (premieres Sun., Oct. 30, 9PM ET on Discovery).

Recreating Yale professor Stanley Milgram's groundbreaking and disturbing psychological experiment from the 1960s -- which showed regular people inflicting pain on others because they were "just following orders" -- Roth came away with some fascinating insight into human nature, and a very matter-of-fact conclusion. "We haven't changed in 50 years, and I don't think we will," he said.

Here, Roth talks more about the nature of evil and why even Hitler shouldn't be completely faulted for his evil acts during the Holocaust. And speaking of Hitler, as the guy that killed Hitler (on-screen in 'Inglourious Basterds,' that is) does Roth think he has what some have dubbed "the evil gene"? He goes through a few tests himself in the special, all in the name of science and his own curiosity.

Keep reading for more on this fascinating study, and to find out which recent horror movie sequel "terrified" the master, leaving Roth and pal Marilyn Manson "squealing like teenage girls." (You're welcome.)

Can Bodybuilders Really Not Lift a 112-lb. Woman on 'Penn & Teller Tell a Lie'? (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 6th 2011 2:45AM
'Penn & Teller Tell a Lie'Penn & Teller are back with a new show, and this time they're lying to us. 'Penn & Teller Tell a Lie' (Wed., 10PM ET on Discovery) finds the pair sharing with us seven surprising truths about the world. Six of them are absolutely true, while one is a lie.

They don't reveal the lie until the end, leaving you to question each story as it unfolds. Possibly the craziest one from the premiere was the claim that a 112-lb. woman could make it to where even bodybuilders couldn't lift her up.

We watched as one guy picked her up with ease. Then, on the second try, he couldn't budge her an inch. Is this really possible?

Eating a Singed Armadillo on 'Man, Woman, Wild' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Sep 12th 2011 1:20AM
Ruth England, 'Man, Woman, Wild'Ruth England wasn't born and bred in the wild, which is half the charm of watching her on 'Man, Woman, Wild' (Fri., 9PM ET on Discovery). While her husband, Mykel Hawke, is trained and completely in his element in the wild, England is experiencing new things with every trip.

This time around it was the notion of eating an armadillo killed in a wildfire.

"I've gotta gut a singed half-cooked armadillo with burst guts that may or may not have leprosy," she lamented as she went about trying to figure out how to get to the edible parts.

Paul Takes a Ride in Elvis Presley's Caddy on 'Auction Kings' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Aug 31st 2011 2:58AM
Elvis Presley's Cadillac, 'Auction Kings'At 70 years old, Doug has amassed an impressive collection of classic cars. But one of his prize pieces is a 1975 Cadillac that was bought by Elvis Presley off the showroom floor brand new.

It was an impressive piece, and one that Paul Brown was more than happy to take for a test drive on 'Auction Kings' (Tue., 9PM ET on Discovery).

When he asked Doug why he'd sell such a great car, Doug's reply was simple and very sweet. "Me and my wife are retiring and I'm hoping to get rid of all my antique cars," he explained. And then later in a confessional he elaborated. "The money I get is gonna go straight to my wife and I hope she spends it any way she wants to."

Doug was hoping to score about $12,000 for the Caddilac, but he did even better at auction. The final bid came in at $16,750, which should by his wife a lot of ... well, whatever she wants it to buy!
