divorce
It's irreconcilable differences for Wayne Brady and Johnny Knoxville
Um, no, these two weren't married recently in either Massachusetts or New Jersey. What's actually happening here is that "irreconcilable differences" is being cited as the reason for divorce from their significant others. But, you knew that already, didn't you?
In Wayne Brady's case it's his wife, Mandie Brady, that is filing for divorce under these circumstances. The former star of The Wayne Brady Show and Whose Line is it Anyway? (and current host of FOX's new show Don't Forget the Lyrics) and his wife married in 1999. The couple separated in April of 2006, according to papers filed with the Los Angeles Superior Court. Mandie is seeking joint legal and physical custody of the couple's 4-year-old daughter, Maile.
Criss Angel sued for divorce
Egad.
According to the New York Post, Criss Angel's wife, Joanne Sarantakos (Sarantakos is Angel's actual surname), is suing her husband for divorce, claiming that he kept their marriage a secret to help his career and make him more appealing to fans.
Their marriage was enough of a secret that I had no idea he was even married, though it's not as if I spend every waking moment keeping up with Angel's personal life. Still, whenever a girl was by Criss' side on Mindfreak, she was always just credited as "Criss' girl" as far as I remember.
HBO turning Richard Ford books into miniseries
HBO has just announced that they are going to take Richard Ford's acclaimed trilogy of books, The Sportswriter, Independence Day, and Lay of the Land, and turn them into a six hour miniseries titled The Sportswriter.
The books focus on sportswriter Frank Bascombe and the problems he has in his life. The books cover everything from Vietnam to 9/11 and so will the miniseries. It will be directed by James Mangold (Men In Trees, Identity, Walk The Line) and written by Mark Bomback, who also wrote the upcoming third Die Hard movie with Bruce Willis and Justin Long.
This should be an interesting miniseries, especially if they get someone good to play Bascombe and stick close to the books. I've only read The Sportswriter. It's quite good.

Danny Bonaduce's marriage finally crumbles
From the "We Saw This Coming From a Mile Away" file... comes news that Danny Bonaduce is getting divorced. His wife, Gretchen, has filed for divorce after 16 years of marriage. It's a miracle they made it that long, really. If you're like me and the most you've seen of Breaking Bonaduce was on The Soup, you've seen enough to know know she puts up with a lot of shit from him. And it's not just his on-again, off-again addictions to drugs and alcohol. The dude has a raging temper. She was a real trooper for sticking around, but things apparently just got to be too much for her. I guess Dr. Phil failed.
Bonaduce announced the divorce this week while being interviewed on Adam Carolla's syndicated radio show.
Bravo places pilot order for Take My Ex
I'm torn: is a reality show about divorcees helping their ex-spouses find a new love really uplifting or really creepy and disturbing?
I guess it doesn't matter what I think, because Bravo has given the "go ahead" to Take My Ex, a new reality series pilot in which divorced couples help their former spouses find love again. After all, who better to find you the man or woman of your dreams than the person you divorced because they themselves couldn't meet your emotional needs?
Brothers and Sisters: All in the Family
(S01E17) Brothers and Sisters continues to give good episode, and good story. I particularly enjoyed how they used Nora's writing class and the story she was writing to give structure to the episode. She wrote a narrative about all of the crazy threads of her family and all of the story lines.James Tupper dishes about his relationship with Anne Heche
So... what exactly happened between Anne Heche and James Tupper? Their new series, Men in Trees, has a strong showing in ratings on Thursdays following Grey's Anatomy. It's a cute, if somewhat unremarkable show. But earlier this year, the two stars made headlines when their on-screen romance carried on off-screen. Why do we care? Well, in truth, we shouldn't care- but it is interesting because both of them were married at the time.James Tupper, who plays breathy Jack on Men in Trees, recently gave an interview to People magazine where he swears up and down that neither of them cheated on their spouses. He says their marriages were both over before they hooked up. It's like Brad and Angelina all over again - and we didn't believe them either, did we?
Of course, I hope that the love Heche and Tupper feel for each other is real, but I wouldn't be surprised if it isn't. In the interview, Tupper uses that line that all actors use when they fall for a co-star: "I've never met anyone like her." That's a red flag, if I've ever seen one. I think we hear that one from adults in relationships as often as we hear child actors say "I've worked for this all my life!"
Law & Order SVU: Burned
(S08E11) Boy howdy, things sure are tense between Dets. Benson and Stabler. I thought their issues were in the past, but they never really can be, can they? Stabler immediately pushed Benson's buttons in this episode when he suggested that a man who is addicted to drugs and alcohol isn't technically abusive. Of course, Benson grew up with an alcoholic mother and she knows that abuse comes in many forms. Stabler knows that too, dammit, but he feels an obligation to side with the man in a nasty divorce case because his own divorce isn't going too well. Now to the story: A woman, Valerie (Michael Michele), accuses her soon-to-be ex-husband of raping her. But it all seems fishy because she and her husband, Miles (Blair Underwood), are going through a nasty, nasty divorce. Their daughter, Tessa (Tiffany Evans), is in the middle of it.
Fox and the Farrelly brothers team up
Fox has given a script order to a new sitcom from the Farrelly brothers, writers Chris Pappas and Mike Bernier and producer Brad Johnson. Called The Rules for Starting Over, the sitcom focuses on a thirty-something guy who is entering the dating scene after a divorce. He's got a bunch of male buddies - also divorced. All of them learning that, yes, the rules of dating in your 30s are much different than the rules of dating in your 20s.Let's muse for a moment on just how different. There's the whole biological clock thing you've got to look out for in your 30s. People are more likely to have entered the stage of dating where they're "shopping for a life partner" rather than just having a good time. There's less sloppy "hooking up" and, I'm guessing, you're less likely to stumble your way into a threesome. Those things require planning when you're not in college or the Real World house. The internet may play a bigger part in your dating life than it ever has. If you "let yourself go" during your marriage, than you've got to lower your superficiality standards or whip yourself back into marketable shape. Wow, is there anything good about dating in your 30s? Sex in the City made it look so kinky.

K-Fed shopping reality show
K-Fed's looking to make a second outing in the world of reality television with the help of House of Carters' executive producer Kenneth Crear. Crear reported to Us Magazine, "We are in talks about this. Kevin came to me because he liked the way I shot the House of Carters series and the way I made Nick Carter look real and trustworthy. I gave people a different perspective of him and made people really respect him." Kevin feels that the fast track to post-Brit respectability will come from reality television. You can't make this stuff up. K-Fed is in negotiations to shoot eight episodes over a three month period. Kevin has said he won't be hating on Britney in the show, which is, of course, focused on him. That's ok. Britney's doing a fine job shaming herself in the post-Federline years all by her pantyless lonesome.

Britney Spears files for divorce -- BREAKING NEWS
Britney Spears is finally dropping that no-good, talentless husband of hers who brought out her trashiness. People magazine is citing a report from TMZ that Britney has filed for divorce from Kevin "Popozao" Federline. The legal papers claim "irreconcilable differences" and Britney is seeking custody of the couple's two sons, Sean Preston, 1, and Jayden James, who is not quite two months old. Britney and Kevin married in September 2004 and we were all subjected to their 'romance' on their UPN show, Chaotic, the following year.Hmmm. Britney neglected to mention this news when she "surprised" David Letterman on his show last night. In the meantime, Kevin Federline is out promoting his new album-- I bet he suddenly gets a lot of media interest.
Desperate Housewives: Nice She Ain't
(S03E05) Did you notice that there were multiple closeups of people stirring bowls or cups of food in this episode? I love that because this episode was all about stirring things up. Oh, boy. Did I actually say that I liked Nora? Wow. I totally got sucked in. She did some master manipulation this week, eh? She is playing Lynette and Tom like a violin (which may change next week). Boy, could she have made Lynette dance any better than she has in the past few weeks? But seriously? Whether or not Nora is being a totally manipulative bitch, should Lynette really support Tom in his dream of opening a pizza place?Desperate Housewives: Like It Was
(S03E04) Well, this was certainly a fun week on Wisteria Lane! I love the ending premise that no matter what is going on, we can write our own histories. Now, I know what you're thinking: That is also a phenomenon commonly known as denial. But it can also be known as saving face and muddling through.Desperate Housewives: A weekend in the country
(S03E03) Okay, I am already getting tired of the inconsistency with this show: Either be a realistic show with some pithy insights into life, or be campy. Do you get to have it both ways? I guess so. But it drives me a little batty. Having said that, I will say, though, that even though I didn't watch the first two seasons (in the interest of full disclosure), that I'm now hooked on the show. Just because it's inconsistent doesn't mean it's not entertaining or compelling.Matt Lauer and wife split
Wow. You know a marriage must have been having serious problems if the couple files for divorce while the wife is pregnant. It happened with Charlie Sheen and Denise Richards, and now it's happening with Matt Lauer and his wife Annette.According to this article, the Today anchor and his wife officially filed for divorce on September 13, but wanted to keep things secret for as long as possible. The pairing has been rocky; the Lauers separated in April, but got back together soon after. Now, with Annette pregnant with the couple's third child, things are kaput. The article states that everything is amicable, which is most definitely not like what happened with Sheen and Richards. Let's just say this: a single Lauer, loose in New York, is going to be a heck of a babe magnet. As long as he uses someone other than Al Roker as his wingman, he should do quite well.
