DJ Qualls: I Was Beaten By Vancouver Police For No Reason

by Chris Harnick, posted Sep 26th 2011 10:30AM
DJ Qualls'Memphis Beat' actor DJ Qualls took to Twitter to tell the world he was beaten by Vancouver Police, apparently for no reason.

On Saturday morning, Qualls started tweeting about the incident. "Before it hit the news, just got out out of the ER," he said. "Was beaten by a Vancouver Police Officer for no reason. Got stitches and released."

Qualls said he witnessed a large fight. After he attempted to point out some of the parties involved, the actor was warned to get out of the area or he'd be arrested. Qualls tweeted, "I asked why and he tackled me, busted my face and handcuffed me." Then, according to his own personal account, he was held for a half an hour before an ambulance came and taunted by the police officer, whom he then called out on Twitter.

DJ Qualls Didn't Know What to Do When He Accidentally Exposed Himself to Fans (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jul 14th 2011 6:54AM
DJ Qualls, 'The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson'DJ Qualls was feeling more than his oats when he accidentally exposed himself to a group of his fans on 'The Late Late Show' (Weeknights, 12:37AM ET on CBS). He was feeling completely overwhelmed and confused as to how this happened, and what he should do next.

It happened simply enough. He was dining alone and enjoyed the attention of some fans who recognized him and wanted to see his tattoo. But apparently, he was also in a mood he doesn't understand himself.

"I don't know why I did this," He said. "I only have to pull my pants down like about an inch for you to see it, and I just pulled down my pants down to below my underwear line, and my penis was sticking out of my boxers."

The Stars of 'Memphis Beat' Talk Singing, Policing & Shooting in New Orleans (VIDEO)

by Maggie Furlong, posted Jun 22nd 2010 12:00AM
'Memphis Beat'When you get asked to go to New Orleans for work, you say yes. How could anyone pass up an opportunity to visit such an amazing town? The stars of TNT's new show 'Memphis Beat' must agree with me -- contrary to the show's title, they're busy shooting in the Big Easy.

I hit the set of the show on the absolute perfect day: they were filming a birthday party scene at a bar in Algiers that's been used in movies like 'Ray' and other series like 'Treme.' The atmosphere was festive and the cast -- including Jason Lee, Alfre Woodard, DJ Qualls, Sam Hennings, Abraham Benrubi and Leonard Earl Howze -- and creators Joshua Harto and Liz Garcia took the time to sit down and give me all kinds of fun scoop on the show.

Take a look at the interviews to find out more about 'Memphis Beat,' which Lee sums up perfectly as "a downhome southern cop show," before it premieres (Tues., June 22, 10PM ET on TNT).

Three Join TNT's 'Delta Blues'

by Scott Harris, posted Dec 3rd 2009 10:47AM
The cast of TNT's offbeat dramedy pilot 'Delta Blues' continues to take shape, as The Hollywood Reporter is reporting the signing of three new additions.

According to the article, DJ Qualls will be joining the series, which follows the life of Memphis police officer Dwight Hendricks (Jason Lee), who moonlights as an Elvis impersonator. Qualls, who has a forged a career in film ('Road Trip,' 'Delta Farce') and television ('Lost,' 'Scrubs') on the strength of his human dandelion looks, will play Dwight's policeman protege. The role should be familiar ground for Qualls, as the two previously worked together on 'My Name Is Earl.'
