Todd Apologizes to Cody for Leaving Him When He Was Younger on 'Downsized' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Sep 7th 2011 1:30AM
'Downsized'Everyone makes decisions in life that they struggle with, and the choice to leave behind a child is perhaps one of the most haunting. On Cody's 21st birthday, Todd sat him down to talk about the decision to leave him behind and ask his forgiveness on 'Downsized' (Tue., 9PM ET on WE).

Sometimes it's not so much whether what you did back then was the right thing or the wrong thing, but what you're willing to say, feel and do about it now. Todd was honest and sincere in opening up to his son about the heartache he felt when he made that decision.

"I want you to know that it was the hardest thing I had to do and it was the hardest decision I had to make," he said. "Life had been hard enough on you. I always wanted to ask your forgiveness for leaving you behind."

by Jason Hughes, posted Aug 31st 2011 2:18AM
'Downsized'The Bruce family represents millions of Americans who've found themselves losing long-standing jobs and sliding down the socioeconomic ladder in the United States.

As such, we see a lot of our struggles in what they're facing on 'Downsized' (Tue., 9PM ET on TLC).

Most recently, it's been the medical costs of their son's asthma attack now that they no longer have insurance. How to deal with those costs has lead to more fighting in the house, which is cause for concern for youngest daughter Danielle.

She'd already seen her mother get divorced once, and while she didn't know much about why it happened, she knows there was a lot of fighting.

Girls Night Out Almost Ruined by Older Bullies on 'Downsized' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Aug 24th 2011 12:39AM
'Downsized'Everyone knows that kids can be cruel, and when it comes to verbal cruelty, nothing can top a teenage girl. Their word are their weapon and they can be vicious and heartless. And yet, you hope and expect it is something they'll outgrow as they move into young adulthood. Heather and Bailey found that not to be the case on 'Downsized' (Tue., 9PM ET on WE).

At a restaurant, trying to have a relaxing "girl's night out," a group of girls at a nearby table would not stop talking about them. When a guy was talking to Heather, you could hear, "Gross! Don't talk to her!"

At another point, it was, "She needs to lose a few pounds."

Todd Wants the Cameras Off When Rex Suffers an Asthma Attack on 'Downsized' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Aug 17th 2011 12:23AM
'Downsized'Reality got a little too real for Todd Bruce on 'Downsized' (Tue., 9PM ET on WE) when son Rex started suffering from a severe asthma attack. After calling for an ambulance, he turned to the cameras and asked that they be turned off.

"Guys, I don't think we need to take this any further," he told them. "I'm serious. If we can put the cameras down."

The cameras were back on by the time the paramedics arrived, but Todd's moment is reminiscent of other times reality families have shut the cameras off for more serious moments. It certainly pulls you out of the illusion of this heightened reality we're watching, making you as aware of the cameras invading these moments as the family must be at all times.

Teenager Helps with Family's Rent on 'Downsized'On 'Downsized' (Sat., 9PM ET on WE), the Bruce family struggles to recover from unemployment and bankruptcy. Todd and Laura are finding it very difficult to make ends meet for their blended family of nine, and that includes paying the rent.

During dinner one evening, Dylan strolls in. Despite being in big trouble for not telling his parents where he's been, he has a big grin on his face. Why? "I made us rent," he explains. "$100. I sold my glove."

"Baseball means the world to him, and for him to sacrifice something like his glove ... I was speechless," says Laura. "Just shows that even with all these problems that we're having right now, we have some great kids."

Todd says, "Seriously, Dyl, we appreciate it ... But you're still grounded."

Six New Shows (and 'Charmed') Coming to WE

by Bob Sassone, posted Mar 31st 2010 2:00PM
Joan RiversCan we agree that the word "docusoap" is one of the worst TV-related words ever invented? It's approximately 300 times worse than "dramedy." WE has just announced that they're adding six new shows (plus the long-running WB show 'Charmed') to its schedule, and almost all of them are described as "docusoaps," which pretty means that I'm not going to be watching WE anytime soon (not that I'm in their demographic anyway).

After the jump, a list of the new shows.
