Dancing Away the Pounds on 'The Dr. Oz Show' (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Jul 12th 2010 10:00PM
Dancing Away the Pounds on 'The Dr. Oz Show'Renowned choreographer Stepp Stewart appeared on 'The Dr. Oz Show' (weekdays, syndicated). While on the show, Stewart shared some advice about how to lose those extra pounds. His advice: dancing! Stewart then made host Dr. Oz join him in a variety of embarrassing dance moves, including "the hopscotch" and "the hula hoop."

So, okay. We'd just like to say two things here. One, "Stepp Stewart" is a pretty cool name for a dancer. And two -- is this supposed to be exciting medical news? Yes, dancing is focused physical activity, and physical activity leads to weight loss. But didn't we kind of ... all know this already?

Dr. Oz's Wife Calls Out Joy Behar for Flirting (VIDEO)

by Donald Deane, posted Apr 8th 2010 2:00PM
Dr. Oz's wife jokingly calls out Joy Behar for having a serious case of grabby hands with the good doctor each time he appears on 'The View' (weekdays, syndicated).

"I watch the shows when he's here and every time he's either rubbing your belly, or you're puckering up," said Lisa Oz. "Last time, I think you said, 'Kiss me!' And, you know, I'm getting a little nervous."

What You Missed Last Night (and two weeks ago): Phantom of the Oprah

by Bob Sassone, posted Dec 30th 2009 1:03PM
The late night shows are in repeats this week. Last night Jimmy Kimmel showed an episode from a couple of weeks ago (a practice that I hate) with a segment that I thought was worth posting: The Phantom of the Oprah.

It's pretty funny, even if the "Phantom of the Oprah" joke was made on Wings about 15 years ago.

MSNBC drops Dr. Nancy daytime show

by Allison Waldman, posted Dec 28th 2009 4:12PM
dr_nancy_snydermanSort of lost in the shuffle of the pre-Christmas news was this item. MSNBC has cancelled the Dr. Nancy show. What? You didn't even know there was a Dr. Nancy show starring NBC medical/health expert Dr. Nancy Snyderman? Don't worry. Most people weren't either. MSNBC plopped Dr. Nancy at 12 noon on June 29 and then did next to nothing to promote the show.

Even if MSNBC had done some publicity, it may not have helped. MSNBC daytime is a major problem for the network. They've been juggling and re-juggling the personalities, but nothing has worked. So while Dylan Ratigan is getting another slot on the channel, Dr. Nancy will return to her work as NBC's chief medical editor doing the NBC News and Today.

30 Rock's Grizz needs a kidney transplant

by Bob Sassone, posted Dec 14th 2009 5:10PM
GrizzFans of 30 Rock may have noticed that Grizzwald Chapman, who plays Tracy Jordan's co-hort Grizz, had lost some weight this season. That's because he has severe hypertension and needs to lose 75 pounds before doctors will consider him for a kidney transplant, which he desperately needs (he's 6 feet 11 but weighs 378 pounds). He has ignored his high blood pressure for many years and now goes through dialysis three times a week. He might even have to wait as long as five years to get a new kidney.

On tomorrow's Dr. Oz Show, Chapman appears (along with Kevin Brown, who plays DotCom on 30 Rock) to talk about his trouble. He has use of only 5% of his kidney right now. Oz is going to help Chapman stay healthy until a kidney becomes available.

Here's hoping he gets on the right track and everything turns out OK.

Dr. Oz and Joy Behar Get Frisky on 'The View' (VIDEO)

by Donald Deane, posted Dec 8th 2009 9:45AM
Among the things that put us in the mood, nipples and hemorrhoids definitely don't make the cut.

Joy Behar and Dr. Mehmet Oz, however, got frisky on 'The View' while discussing these and a part of the human anatomy that, uh, shall remain nameless. Watch the clip for more, but be forewarned, the humor veers dangerously close to the scatological.

Oprah's Big Give to Nate Berkus: His Own Talk Show

by Elizabeth Chan, posted Nov 17th 2009 10:23PM
Nate Berkus lands his own talk show.Oprah often gives away cool things for those in her studio audience. It seems her featured guests don't do too badly either.

"... And you get a show! And you get a show!"

Harpo Productions has announced plans for a new syndicated talk show featuring Nate Berkus, interior designer and featured regular on 'The Oprah Winfrey Show.' The as yet to be titled show is slated for 2010 and would be the second collaboration between Harpo Productions and its distributor, Sony Pictures Television. Their first collaboration, 'The Dr. Oz Show,' premiered this year and is proof that Oprah knows how to cultivate and develop new daytime talk show stars.

Berkus will join Dr. Phil, Rachael Ray and Dr. Oz in the "I was on Oprah, now I have my own show" club.

What would you do if you were Oprah?

by Allison Waldman, posted Nov 15th 2009 3:07PM
oprah_winfrey_headThere's a lot of speculation in the biz about what will Oprah do next. The daytime talk show giant supposedly made up her mind recently and decided that her syndicated show, The Oprah Winfrey Show, would end its run in syndication and move to OWN, the Oprah Winfrey Network (formerly Discovery Health). An official announcement is anticipated before the end of the year, but is that really was Oprah has decided? Nobody knows for certain.

There are pros and cons on either side. The companies that syndicated her talk show stand to lose a significant asset if she wraps up the current incarnation and abandons the market. Think of all those afternoon hours around that country that count on Oprah at three or four o'clock, or the morning slots where Oprah leads in to noon newscasts. Companies like CBS Distribution and the Tribune Company have feasted on the robust ratings Oprah has consistently delivered.

Jimmy Fallon looks behind the curtain into the land of Oz

by Bob Sassone, posted Sep 3rd 2009 11:24AM
Dr. Mehmet Oz has a new show debuting on September 14 (thanks Oprah!), and the show is going to be taped right next to the Late Night with Jimmy Fallon studio at NBC. Last night he gave Fallon a tour.

Oh, if you're wondering why Fallon is taking off surgical gloves at the start of the tip, he had just given Oz a rectal exam.

Dear Oprah: Yes! I DO want to reclaim my "best life"!

by Jane Boursaw, posted Jan 4th 2009 11:11AM

Oprah WinfreyI haven't watched Oprah for years, but I'll be tuning in this week and maybe even recording the shows to watch again later. Why? Because she's got a bunch of shows I can really use!

After admitting to the world that her weight has crept back up to 200 lbs. (although if a celebrity says they weigh 200 lbs., really they weigh at least 220 lbs. - trust me on this), she's getting back on that wagon and taking that fat bull by the horns.

Here's the rundown for her "Best Life Week," day by day:

Monday, Jan. 5: Your Weight. To get back on track, Oprah talks about her diet, workout plan, and ways to put yourself back on the priority list. Her workout guy Bob Greene stops by to help us all out of a rut. I just joined a gym, so I'm completely on-board with this one.

Oprah's talk show future might be all her OWN

by Allison Waldman, posted Dec 5th 2008 9:31AM
Oprah WThere's a famous scene in The Godfather: Part III -- the only really memorable one -- where Michael Corleone says, "Just when I thought I was out... they pull me back in." I thought of that when I read that Oprah Winfrey may not be ending her talk show in 2011 after all. What? I thought it was a done deal, but no. Every time I think she's done, she's back again.

When asked by Access Hollywood about The Oprah Winfrey Show ending in 2011, Ms. W said, "I'm not done." Well, you sure could have knocked me over with a feather. I mean, really, I understand that it's a woman's prerogative to change her mind, but I really thought Oprah had other worlds to conquer, other fish to fry.

Why is Oprah's show in a slump?

by Allison Waldman, posted Aug 14th 2008 11:41AM
Recently, TV columnist Aaron Barnhart took note of the fact that Oprah Winfrey's show is sinking in the ratings. Her talk show, which is the centerpiece of her multimedia success -- a success that has made her the richest woman in show business -- has been losing ratings consistently for the last six months. At first blush, the politically minded of you might think it's because she endorsed Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, but I think it's more than that. After all, if anything, the vast amount of grassroots support that the Senator from Illinois has engendered might be a plus for Oprah rather than a minus.

Therefore, there have to be other factors to explain why Oprah's landmark TV talk show has lost its luster -- at least ratings-wise. I've come up with six possible reasons.

Oprah's new spin-off to be distributed by Sony

by Brad Trechak, posted Jun 16th 2008 8:23AM
Oprah WinfreyIt looks like Oprah is getting in bed with someone else, figuratively speaking. Sony Pictures TV will be distributing her new upcoming spin-off talk show hosted by heart surgeon Dr. Mehmet Oz.

This marks a change from her usual relationship with CBS Television Distribution which distributes her own show as well as the spin-offs involving Doctor Phil and Rachael Ray. Dr. Oz is being perceived by many as a competitor to Dr. Phil, whose host's ethics have recently been in free-fall. CBS is already planning to launch its own spin-off of Doctor Phil called The Doctors.

Paula Deen going into syndication

by Allison Waldman, posted Apr 15th 2008 10:42AM
Paula DeenMove over, Rachael Ray! Another Food Network bird is straying for the nest to try her wings in syndication. Southern diva Paula Deen is readying a daytime cooking show for syndication in 2009. She also following Rachael's lead by not giving up her secure and lucrative connection to Food Network. Her Paula's Home Cooking and Paula's Party programs will remain Food Network staples.

The challenge for Paula will be coming up with a show that's not simply an echo of her other two shows. Unlike Rachael, who does a full-fledged talk show with a cooking segment, Paula's new effort is being called a "cooking" show. That could be limiting.
