LeAnn Rimes Dishes About 'Drop Dead Diva,' Life with Husband Eddie Cibrian and her 'Days' with Jensen Ackles

by Michael Maloney, posted Jun 19th 2011 9:00AM
Brooke Elltiott and LeAnn RimesLeAnn Rimes is not a diva -- she just plays one on TV.

This Sunday, the singer/actress will guest star on the season premiere of the Lifetime series 'Drop Dead Diva,' which stars Brooke Elliott whose model character (Deb) was plopped into the body of a savvy lawyer named Jane. Hiliarty, songs and guest stars continue as the show celebrates season 3.

Rimes will play the ex-wife of a movie star accused of hit and run. Is the show capitalizing on her off-screen life with new hubby Eddie Cibrian, star of the NBC fall series 'The Playboy Club?' Maybe. But the important thing is that Rimes is walking into the role hoping to poke fun at all the perceived drama that has surrounded her life.

AOL TV spoke to the actress about why she took on this particular role, how she and Cibrian handle being written about in the tabloids, her first gig with 'Supernatural' hunk Jensen Ackles and much more.

At the end of 'Drop Dead Diva' Season 2, an engaged Grayson was left badly beat up after an accident, and a distraught Jane was by his side, wondering if he really saw her as Deb or was just hallucinating before slipping into a coma.

Drama, right? The clever, quirky show doesn't keep things serious for too long though, returning with a big hospital song-and-dance number to 'Don't Leave Me This Way' in the premiere.

'Drop Dead Diva' Season 3 Premiere

That balance of heart-wrenching and laugh-inducing is exactly why fans can't wait for more. With Season 3 premiering (Sun., June 19, 9PM ET on Lifetime), AOL TV visited the show's set in Peachtree City, Georgia, to get the scoop on what's next.

Former 'Bachelor' Jake Pavelka Guest Stars on 'Drop Dead Diva' (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Aug 23rd 2010 12:54AM
Former 'Bachelor' Jake Pavelka Guest Stars on 'Drop Dead Diva'Jake Pavelka appeared on the latest episode of 'Drop Dead Diva' (Sun., 9PM ET on Lifetime). The former 'Bachelor' contestant really stretched his acting range -- by playing a former contestant on a reality dating show. Yay! Way to go, Jake!

Mr. Pavelka played a mean dating show dude who was being sued for "intentionally inflicting emotional harm" upon a female contestant. ... Of course, in real life, some might argue that Jake has also done the same thing.

Exclusive 'Drop Dead Diva' Music Video for Begin Again

by Maggie Furlong, posted Jul 13th 2010 5:40PM
'Drop Dead Diva' - Brooke Elliott & Paula AbdulWe love 'Drop Dead Diva.' The show is the perfect mix of heart, fantasy, love story and legal drama. And music -- you can't forget the music.

With sensationally fun numbers from star Brooke Elliott and the whole cast, as well as surprise duets with Judge Paula Abdul (shown), the show is kicking it up a notch with this week's episode (Sun., July 18, 9PM ET on Lifetime), having Jane and Grayson defend a fictitious pop duo called Confetti. Played by actresses Candice Accola ('The Vampire Diaries') and Mackenize Mauzy ('The Bold and the Beautiful'), the ladies have both been accused of murder ... but that doesn't mean they won't be belting out a tune or two.

They've got the perfect song, 'Begin Again,' to go along with the episode of the same name, and we've got the exclusive music video for their big hit single. Fake singers? And a fake music video? Who cares -- it's pretty much just an awesome slideshow of some of the show's biggest, best and funniest moments so far, and no 'Diva' fan can resist that.

Kellie Martin On 'Drop Dead Diva,' 'The Jensen Project' and Getting Killed On 'ER'

by Joel Keller, posted Jul 9th 2010 1:03PM
Kellie Martin from NBC's 'The Jensen Project'We haven't seen much of Kellie Martin in the last few years -- a couple of Lifetime movies, some guest shots, and that's about it -- but it's been for a good reason: she took the time off to figure out how to be a parent.

After her daughter Maggie was born three-and-a-half years ago, Martin told me last week, "I didn't want to get overwhelmed with having to feel like I had to work and not have this time with her." She read every parenting book she could find, but parenting was still a mystery to her. "I had no idea what to do with a kid, I mean I was clueless, so I needed some time to figure this out."

This week, audiences will see Martin twice: Fans of Lifetime's 'Drop Dead Diva' will see Martin guest star on July 11 as the victim of a Ponzi scheme who hires Grayson Kent to take her case. And on July 16, Martin will star in NBC's 'The Jensen Project' as Claire Thompson, a nanobiologist who works with her husband and 15-year-old son to fight evil when the project they spent years developing falls into the wrong hands. If the show, produced by Wal-Mart and Proctor and Gamble as part of their 'Family Moments' series, does well, it has a shot of being made into a series.

But before we talked about that, I needed to express my shock that the 'Life Goes On' and 'ER' star was old enough to play the mom of a teenager (she's only 35, for heaven's sakes)...

[Spoiler alert.]

Grayson asked everyone in the office to pause for a moment of remembrance.

"It's been a little while now and should be getting easier, right?" said Grayson in his toast to Deb. "I miss you. Your friends miss you." Meanwhile, Jane and Deb watched through the window.

'Drop Dead Diva' - 'Back from the Dead' Recap

There's a sweetness to 'Drop Dead Diva' that if not handled correctly could push the show into the territory of overly saccharine, or even diabetic coma. Generally speaking, it's a nice program where good things happen and resolutions are for the better. That's why it's important to balance the bitter with the sweet. Not everything ends happily ever after. That was exactly what tonight's episode showed ... and that was a good thing.
