Will Evangeline Lilly quit acting someday?

by Erin Martell, posted Jan 17th 2007 11:09AM

Evangeline LillyIf you're like me, you were glued to the TV hours before the Golden Globes aired to catch E!'s coverage of the red carpet. One major highlight was Ryan Seacrest's short interview with Evangeline Lilly. After the standard softball questions, Seacrest asked Lilly, who plays Kate "I don't do taco night" Austen on Lost, if there was any truth to the rumor that she was considering leaving the acting world at some point. Lilly surprised many fans by acknowledging that she was not that interested in fame and would probably not be an actress forever. No word on whether this career change would occur while Lost remains on the air.

Apprentice Bill Rancic is engaged to E! host

by Anna Johns, posted Dec 17th 2006 3:39PM
bill rancic; giuliana depandiBill Rancic, the very first winner of The Apprentice, is engaged to Giuliana DePandi, co-host of E! News and nemesis of Ryan Seacrest. The two met in 2004 when DePandi interviewed Rancic after his bib win, but they didn't become romantically involved until earlier this year when they reunited at a charity event.

E! reports that Bill popped the question by taking DePandi on a helicopter ride over his hometown of Chicago, then treating her to deep-dish pizza, chocolate cake and champagne.

Bill is still working for Donald Trump, in various capacities. His newest job is to play 'sidekick' to Trump on the next edition of The Apprentice, which premieres on NBC on January 7.

E! planning series about 'Broken Dreams'

by Anna Johns, posted Dec 12th 2006 2:29PM
lauryn hillLifting its name from a Green Day song, the E! network is launching a series called Boulevard of Broken Dreams. Much like its True Hollywood Story, this series is about the rise and fall of Hollywood stars. Many of the subjects chosen for the series are dead, while others have just plain screwed up their lives after becoming famous.

Here's a list of the stars to be featured. Which one of these things is not like the others?
  • Chris Penn, deceased brother of Sean Penn;
  • Krissy Taylor, deceased sister of model Niki Taylor;
  • Mitch Hedberg, deceased comedian;
  • Leif Garrett, former teen idol and current joke;
  • Lauryn Hill, singer who... WTF?

Comcast and Disney make a deal

by Brett Love, posted Nov 24th 2006 3:35PM
DisneyThere's some good news, and some bad news, for TV fans where the Comcast/Disney deal is concerned. As part of the agreement, Disney has locked up availability of all their major channels with the cable company into the next decade. Those include Disney Channel, ABC Family, Toon Disney, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN Classic, ESPNEWS, and ESPN HD. In addition to that, the two have come to some sort of agreement with regards to ESPN2 HD, and Comcast will also launch ESPN Deportes. The deal also includes the sale of Disney's stake in E! Networks, which makes Comcast the sole owner of E! and Style.

Most of that wasn't really in doubt, but the big news is that Comcast will now be able to make some ABC programs available for their OnDemand service. Beginning in the fall of 2007, Desperate Housewives, Lost, and two other shows to be named later, will be available the day after they air for OnDemand customers. In addition, Desperate Housewives and Lost will be available in HD OnDemand. Unfortunately, that service will only be available in markets that have an ABC owned stations. So, if you are in New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, San Francisco, Houston, Fresno, or Flint... Yay for you. The rest of us will just have to keep waiting.

It's not perfect, but another step in the right direction. The more shows available to viewers in an OnDemand format, the better.

Playboy's Girls Next Door get the greenlight

by Julia Ward, posted Nov 22nd 2006 1:07PM
Girls Next DoorE! Entertainment Television has given the greenlight to a third season of The Girls Next Door, a behind-the-scenes look at life inside the Playboy Mansion with Hef and his three girlfriends Holly, Bridget and Kendra. To no one's surprise, the show is the E! Network's most popular.

Unfortunately for the girls, they may have to up the ante. Former Playmate and Mansion resident Izabella St. James is on the verge of releasing a tell-all book about what really goes on inside the Playboy Mansion. Try not to be too shocked, readers, but it involves s-e-x.

E! True Hollywood Story going, going, gone?

by Julia Ward, posted Nov 3rd 2006 10:01AM
True Hollywood StoryMediaBistro is reporting that E! True Hollywood Story may be going the way of a drug-addled former child star -- down the slow slide into oblivion.

E! is cutting 15 staff jobs and paring down the program -- having ordered only 21 episodes, less than half the typical order, for the year. I, of course, didn't realize that there were more than 50 original episodes of the show ordered every year. For some reason, I only catch the Blossom one.

While no one likes to see anyone lose their job, I'm sure E! will find a new way to edit together clips of pop culture detritus for our consumption.

Brad Pitt charging E! network with trespassing

by Anna Johns, posted Oct 29th 2006 2:30PM
brad pittThe E! television network is in big trouble with Brad Pitt. He is seeking trespassing charges against an E! producer and cameraman who allegedly strolled right onto his Hollywood Hills property last week. A rep for Pitt says he is exploring other legal options against the television network. Here's the weird thing: apparently TMZ.com originally reported on the producer and cameraman entering Pitt's property. So now the gossipers are blowing the whistle on each other? Maybe the entire business will self-destruct (yeah, right).

E! says it's investigating the claim and has since fired the two employees in question. It's surprising news about E!, really, since it seems to kiss celebrities' asses, while TMZ likes to stalk them.

The Five: Things Paris & Nicole weren't fighting about

by Anna Johns, posted Oct 11th 2006 9:43AM
paris hilton; nicole richieParis and Nicole will reunite for the next season of The Simple Life. The duo have not been on speaking terms for at least a year now but suddenly have rekindled their friendship. Maybe their peace accord has something to do with all the headlines they've had lately regarding anorexia, DUIs, and club brawls. The producers of The Simple Life say Paris and Nicole will hash out their differences next season so we'll get to know what they were fighting about. Ooooh... I'm on the edge of my seat! It's probably going to be over something stupid like a boy, clothes, or a mis-spelled text message.

Here are The Five: Things that Paris & Nicole probably weren't fighting about:

5. Mac versus PC
4. Setting a timeline to leave Iraq
3. Hybrid versus biodiesel
2. 2004 Presidential Election Results
1. Angelina versus Jennifer*

*I could be totally wrong about this one.

by Anna Johns, posted Jul 27th 2006 6:12PM
the simple life; paris hilton; nicole ritchieThe E! network is the latest to make its shows available on iTunes. No, you can't buy 100 Biggest Celebrity Oops or 100 Most Starlicious Makeovers (who would want to?). But, you can buy some of its other original programming like The Girls Next Door, Dr. 90210, The Simple Life, and The Soup. Joel McHale on my video iPod? Hot damn!

Episodes cost the usual $1.99.

Home goes pink for the Simple Life

by Adam Finley, posted Jun 10th 2006 12:04PM

paris hiltonWow, what some people will do for, you know, whatever. A family in Atlanta were apparently approached by E! to have their home painted pink and affixed with both a sign for The Simple Life and E! Entertainment's exclamation mark logo as a way to promote the new season of The Simple Life: 'Til Death Do Us Part. I guess during this season Nicole and Paris play pretend mommies or something? Despite my personal aversion to reality shows and especially this particular reality show, the house has been attracting a lot of attention. Perhaps too much, actually, as it seems people have a nasty habit of ringing the doorbell late at night. I assume those making the late night visits were just lonely men who figured Paris had gotten lazy and decided to use the house as a means of luring suitors to her. You know, like her version of the Bat symbol. It's an honest mistake.

Joel McHale on Tony Danza tomorrow

by Jonathan Toomey, posted May 21st 2006 4:46PM

Joel McHale and Tony DanzaTomorrow to help kick off Tony Danza's final week as a talk-show host, Danza is welcoming the one person you'd least expect to be a guest on his show.

That's right, tomorrow morning The Tony Danza Show has Joel McHale of The Soup. Now, I know what you're all thinking. Doesn't Joel McHale make a living by doing nothing other than bash on Tony Danza on his his E! program? Well, yeah... he does. Which is why I can only assume that tomorrow's episode of Danza will be one of the funniest things on TV this week. I mean, what happens when Tony busts out one of his classic "danzitions" and McHale nails him on the spot for it?

For those that don't watch The Soup, a "danzition" refers to the method Tony uses to move from one topic to the next and they usually run something like this: "So look at my nails, they're all shiny because I had a manicure done... oh, I almost forgot, _____ _____ died." Now you understand why I can't wait for tomorrow.

Oh and it's worth mentioning that the final episode of The Tony Danza Show airs this Friday.

Nick and Aaron Carter get reality show on E!

by Anna Johns, posted May 1st 2006 8:33AM
nick carter; aaron carterHave we reached the bottom of the barrel? According to The Hollywood Reporter, Nick and Aaron Carter will star in their own Celeb-reality show on the E! network. Nick is famous for being in The Backstreet Boys and for dating (and possibly beating up) Paris Hilton. Aaron is to Nick what Jamie-Lynn is to Britney Spears. He had a recording career but, since his official website doesn't seem to be working, one can only assume that he's already a has been (yes, I am baiting all you Aaron Carter fans). The hook is that Nick Carter is trying to get his siblings to be closer with each other-- his siblings being Aaron and three sisters. All five will live together and plot their respective futures. It premieres in the fall.

In other E! news, The Simple Life, starring Nick's ex-girlfriend Paris Hilton, starts its new season on June 4.

My new favorite: The Chelsea Handler Show

by Anna Johns, posted Apr 26th 2006 1:31PM
chelsea handlerMy new favorite program is The Chelsea Handler Show on E! I laughed myself silly last weekend when I watched her series premiere. Handler's show is a combination of her stand-up and comedy sketches. She did a sketch with celebrity impersonators that spoofed Jon Favreau's Dinner for Five on IFC. She asked the Tom Cruise impersonator how long it takes alien babies to hatch and wondered whether "that closet you're in locks from the inside". She also did a hilarious interview with a couple that had a one night stand, and you can see it here on YouTube (the quality of the video isn't great). There's also video of her stand-up routine at The Hollywood Improv in LA, but warning: it's not clean. Her comedy is self-deprecating, but also takes some shots at all sorts of minority groups. It's gutsy comedy that ends up being really funny, yet slightly uncomfortable. The best kind!

E! teams up with YouTube

by Anna Johns, posted Mar 29th 2006 10:44AM
youtube; e!While YouTube isn't getting any love from networks like NBC and CBS, cable channel E! recognizes a good thing when it sees it. E! will spin-off a web-only segment of its original series The Soup, exclusively for YouTube. It's called Cybersmack and it's described in The Hollywood Reporter as "a compilation of user-generated video clips that satirize pop culture." I suppose that includes all those mock Narnia raps and all the videos making fun of the "My Humps" music video by the Black Eyed Peas. Cybersmack launches Friday. Best clip wins $25,000. The deal also gives YouTube permission to provide clips from other E! programs.

Reunion: '95, '96, '97 & '98

by Ryan j Budke, posted Mar 15th 2006 8:03AM
reunion; foxRemember way back in December of 2005 when Fox aired the episode of Reunion for 1994? OK, good. Now, remember how they showed the previews for the next episode of Reunion? Yea? Excellent. Well, I'm not sure if you're aware of this or not, but Fox sucks, and they never showed that one. In fact, they promptly canceled the show after that, leaving many loyal fans wondering just what our misfit crew of estranged friends' fates were. There were four episodes that had filmed, but Fox decided not to show them. Will there be an eventual DVD release of the episodes? I wish I knew, but I don't think it would really wrap up any loose ends, though. Luckily, Kristin over at E! has a rundown of the lost episodes. Head on over for a complete rundown of what was going to happen, and then come back here and vent your frustration with me. I believe Kristin has said in the past that she was going to give an overview of everyone's final fates as well, so we'll have to keep our eyes peeled for those.
