Ed Asner Reprising Original 'Hawaii Five-0' Role, 'Glee' Casting Rachel's Dads and More Casting News
According to CBS, the 'Mary Tyler Moore Show' veteran will once again play August March in an early 2012 episode. Asner first played the role in the 1975 episode of the original 'Hawaii Five-0' titled 'Wooden Model of a Rat.'
"It is thrilling to, for the first time, merge the original 'Hawaii Five-0' and our new show by having the classic, versatile and award-winning actor Ed Asner reprise his role of August March, a character Mr. Asner first played 36 years ago. There is no better way to form a bridge between our reboot and the original series," Peter Lenkov, 'Hawaii Five-0' executive producer, said in a statement.
For the first time, footage from the original series featuring Asner will be used. The archive footage will show his character in his smuggler days. When Asner's character appears in the new series, he'll be a reformed man after serving 30 years in prison for murder. The Five-0 team approach him for help on a smuggling case.

According to TV Guide, Cohan will play Maggie, daughter to Wilson's Herschel, an owner of a farm that Rick, Lori and the gang stumble upon.
"[Herschel] is the patriarch of the family," Gale Anne Hurd, 'The Walking Dead' executive producer, told TV Guide. "He's a veterinarian with a great sense of humanity and a very unique take on the Walkers."
Meanwhile, like in the comic books, Cohan's Maggie will be a love interest for Steve Yuen's Glenn.

Although sitcom legend Ed Asner and 'Reba' veteran Melissa Peterman starred on the show, Deadline reports that a second season of the series will not be produced by the country music TV station.
"Unfortunately, CMT will not be pursuing a second season of 'Working Class,'" read a note on the show's official Facebook page. "We're sad to see it go, but you can still catch Melissa Peterman in new episodes of 'The Singing Bee.'"
When she asked if he enjoyed being back on television -- referring to his role on CMT's upcoming 'Regular Joe' -- he responded, "You bet your a**." Asner knew what kind of show he was on.
He was even able to parlay that expression into an opportunity to see just how much posterior Handler was sporting after she said, "Bet my a**? I don't have much of an a** to start with, so I'm not willing to lose it."
News Roundup: Ed Asner to Star in CMT's 'Working Class,' Jason Lee to Guest on 'Raising Hope' and More
According to Live Feed, Asner will star in 'Working Class,' CMT's first scripted series, opposite 'Reba' star Melissa Peterman.
In the series, Peterman, a blue collar single mom, moves her family to the suburbs. There, she meets her curmudgeonly neighbor played by Asner. This is Asner's first series regular role since 'Studio 60.' He'll also appear as Warren Buffett in HBO's 'Too Big to Fail.'
"We are thrilled to have the iconic Ed Asner join Melissa and our entire cast as we launch our first sitcom," Brad Johnson, senior vice president of development at CMT, said. "Asner is synonymous with legendary television, and we know he will bring a classic comedic edge to our fresh family sitcom."
Steve Kazee, Patrick Fabian, Lachlan Buchahan, Cameron Castaneda and Courtney Merritt round out the cast. The 12-episode season 1 of 'Working Class' will launch in January.

To celebrate 'MTM's' 40th anniversary, take a look at where the cast has been since the lights went off in the newsroom. Did they really make it after all?
According to Live Feed, the 80-year-old actor will play Joe's father on the series, about an outspoken man (Tom Arnold) who hits the dating circuit after separating from his longtime wife, played by 'Yes Dear's' Liza Snyder.
This week managed to be both boring and wonderful at the same time. In fact, 'American Dad' and 'The Cleveland Show' paralleled one another in this sense. Both had very strong lead stories featuring their respective fathers and sons, and both had rather dull back-up installments featuring the daughters.
What is it with Seth MacFarlane and female daughters? The fact that he can't find anything to do with Meg has become a running joke on 'Family Guy,' but he has the same problems with Hayley and Roberta.
Did you notice anything different about Roberta this week? Did she sound a little more like Sarah Chalke than Lecy Goranson (that's a 'Roseanne' joke for those paying attention)? That's because Nia Long, who's been the voice of Roberta thus far was replaced this episode by Reagan Gomez-Preston. I know, it's almost as shocking as when Darrin went from one Dick to another on 'Bewitched.'
So Mary ends up going to the event with a dress borrowed from Rhoda that looks like something a grandmother (back then) might wear. It starts raining so the slipper she's wearing on her sore foot gets soggy, and then her false eyelash comes off just as they announce her name as the winner. Seriously, Mary still looks pretty fantastic even when her life goes to heck.
There aren't many shows that can make you laugh out loud even when you're watching them by yourself. The Mary Tyler Moore Show is definitely one of a kind. Here's the episode, straight from our sister site, SlashControl.
Not only was each actor perfect for their role, but their timing and delivery of lines was second to none. I also love all of the 1970s-era props, clothes and decor, because of course, the show was made in the 1970s.
Have you ever wondered if Mary Tyler Moore can still turn the world on with her smile? You'll be able to find out this Monday on Oprah.
The daytime talk show host will host a reunion of the show. Not only will she get all of the surviving cast members together (Moore, Valerie Harper, Ed Asner, Betty White, Gavin MacLeod, Cloris Leachman, and Georgia Engel), they will also have duplicates of the WJM set and the set for Mary's apartment on the stage (the link above includes a preview of the show - no idea why Oprah is crying).
Julia mentioned previously that Amy Sedaris would be appearing in a guest role on Andy Barker, P.I. Well, Julia wasn't lying, but you won't see the episode on TV. Instead, click on over to NBC's site to see "The Lady Varnishes," in which Sedaris plays a sex-crazed older woman who spent some time in the slammer. Funny, that sounds an awful lot like her Jerri Blank character from Strangers with Candy. The two characters do share similar traits, but who the heck cares, I'd give my left leg to see Sedaris in anything (and that statement will mean more to you after you've watched the episode).
...of course, the second part of that headline should probably be "...but it probably won't be renewed."
There have been rumors going around that Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip had stopped production, but that's not the case. In fact, they just finished filming episode 19 earlier this week, and filming of episode 20 started earlier today. So it looks like they'll film the full 22 for the season, but after that...well, they'll probably burn off the episodes during the summer and the show will not see a second season. That's Ray Richmond's take on it, and I agree with him.
Which is really too bad, because...well, for all the reasons I've mentioned several times here at the site before. And it's too bad that NBC abandoned the show, even though other shows that have premiered since Studio 60 was put on hiatus haven't done any better in the ratings. It would have been really nice to see what the show could have done in another time slot, another night. But I guess we'll have to be happy with a one season DVD set, hopefully with extras.
