Christina Applegate Talks About the Success of 'Married... With Children' Cast (VIDEO)
by Jason Hughes, posted Dec 6th 2011 2:30AM
If someone were to ask which show of the late '80s and '90s would spawn some of the most acclaimed and successful actors of the modern generation, no one would have picked FOX's raunchy hit 'Married... with Children.' On 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' (Weeknights, 12AM ET on ABC), Christina Applegate marveled at the success the cast has seen. While she's enjoying another career renaissance with 'Up All Night,' Ed O'Neill is finally getting some industry recognition for his work as family patriarch on 'Modern Family.' Meanwhile, Katey Sagal has been working steadily through the years, finally striking Golden Globe for her gut-wrenching performance on 'Sons of Anarchy.'

'Modern Family' Season 3 First Look: New Cast Photos
by Chris Harnick, posted Sep 7th 2011 4:45PM
Family gatherings can be quite a circus, that's for sure. 'Modern Family' is taking that thought one step further with this new cast image. The Season 3 cast picture features the gang dressed in classic circus attire -- there's even an animal in the mix! Each person is dressed like a specific circus character.
Last year's photo had the cast hanging out in vintage beach attire.
The new season kicks off with a 1-hour premiere that sees the Dunphy and Pritchett families heading to Jackson Hole, Wyoming for a dude ranch adventure. ABC promises big firsts, surprises and a face-off!

'Modern Family' Cast In And Out of Character on 'Inside the Actors Studio' (VIDEO)
by Jason Hughes, posted Jun 8th 2011 1:51AM
James Lipton set aside a special hour-long broadcast of 'Inside the Actors Studio' (Tue., 8PM ET on Bravo) for the adult castmembers from 'Modern Family.' To keep things interesting -- and a little confusing if you were trying to watch this while multitasking -- Lipton decided to interview both the actors and the characters they play on television. As a result, he got some different answers to his favorite questions as when he asked Julie Bowen her favorite curse word. Hers was "dagnabbit," but for Claire Dunphy it's one far more crass.
It was certainly a fun hour, and a neat exploration of how the actors perceive their on-screen characters without the filter of the show's writers giving them their words.

Countdown to Festivus on Dec. 23: On the eighth day of Festivus, TV gave us to ... eight elder statesmen (and women) reigning.
Like fine wine and George Clooney, the TV stars on our list of elder statesmen and women -- statespeople? -- have only gotten better with age. From Tom Selleck entering his fourth decade as one of TV land's sexiest men (and best mustaches) to Betty White entering her seventh decade as one of the tube's most beloved (and energetic) funny ladies, see our picks for TV's most enduring class acts.
News Roundup: Ed O'Neill Denies Dissing Jane Lynch, MTV's 'Inbetweeners' Cast and More
by Jean Bentley, posted Dec 9th 2010 12:00PM
'Modern Family' patriarch Ed O'Neill said he was misquoted in a recent article that alleged he didn't think Jane Lynch deserved her Emmy for playing Sue Sylvester on the Fox hit 'Glee.' A TV Guide Canada story earlier this week (which has since been retracted) quoted O'Neill as saying "I love Jane, honestly I do. I'm dying to star in one of Christopher Guest's movies alongside her, but I don't think she should have gotten the Emmy for that part. [Sue Sylvester] is just a one-note character."
However, the actor told Entertainment Weekly, "I never said those words and transcripts of the press conference attest to that fact. ... I absolutely never said, nor do I believe that Jane -- whom I think is an enormous talent -- was undeserving of the award."

Sultry SofÃa Vergara Talks About Her Accent, Her Role on 'Modern Family' (VIDEO)
by Oliver Miller, posted Sep 30th 2010 5:27AM
'Modern Family' starlet Sofía Vergara appeared on the latest 'Oprah Winfrey Show' (weekdays, syndicated). She discussed her increasingly impenetrable South American accent, and how it was her dream to one day marry the dumpy guy from 'Married ... With Children.' And okay -- the rest of the cast of 'Modern Family' was there as well. But we'll be honest: sometimes we only have eyes for Ms. Vergara.Host Oprah Winfrey asked Sophía why her accent seems to be getting heavier, even though she's been living in America for some time now. The actress replied that she actually does it for comedic effect, and gave an example: "I realized that sometimes it was funnier to say 'YOOOUHH' [rather] than 'you.'" Good point!
Sofia Vergara is Disappointed in Ed O'Neill (VIDEO)
by Donald Deane, posted Jun 14th 2010 4:00PM
Shame on you, Ed O'Neill! You've let 'Modern Family' co-star Sofia Vergara down ... indirectly. Vergara appeared on 'Live With Regis and Kelly' (weekdays, syndicated) and said she was disappointed that O'Neill didn't speak Spanish after having watched translated episodes of 'Married With Children' while living in her native Columbia.Ed O'Neill Discusses 'Modern Family's' Future
by Gary Susman, posted Jun 7th 2010 2:20PM
Ed O'Neill has a pretty light schedule these days. He has a movie coming out on June 4, the documentary 'Delicious Peace Grows in a Ugandan Coffee Bean,' which he narrates. Otherwise, he can relax until July 8, when 'Modern Family' will likely receive a slew of Emmy nominations (the Academy has enlisted his TV wife, Sofia Vergara, and 'Community's' Joel McHale to read the nomination announcements), and then, until the end of July, when the cast meets to begin filming the hit ABC comedy's second season.O'Neill called TV Squad from his home in Los Angeles to talk about 'Modern Family's' Emmy odds, what to expect from season 2, the mysterious origins of the romance between his character and Vergara's and the show's long-term future. He also updated us on the whereabouts of his old castmates from 'Married... With Children.'
'Modern Family' - 'Travels with Scout' Recap
by Jason Hughes, posted Apr 29th 2010 8:15AM

(S01E21) One of the strongest elements of 'Modern Family' is the strength of the ensemble cast. That brilliance in casting has continued to the various guest stars and extended family members we've met so far. I didn't fully grasp just how perfect Fred Willard is for the role of Phil's father until I saw them slinging jokes back and forth in this weeks' episode.
He drove cross-country to deliver a new dog to the Dunphy household, on account of his wife being allergic to it. This allowed Claire to have a clever conversation over the phone wherein she told him just how much trouble he was in for forgetting to tell her dear old dad was coming into town, without letting dad know what she was saying.
But then, brilliantly clever writing has been a staple of 'Modern Family' since the first episode. Aside from Phil's dad, we got to watch Jay scare the crap out of Manny, and Cameron rediscover his inner rock god.
A Big Scare on 'Modern Family' (VIDEO)

Is it a good idea to take your kid to a scary movie? On 'Modern Family' (Wed., 9PM ET on ABC), a dad takes his child to see a horror film -- and comes to regret it. Jay (Ed O'Neill) runs into a friend who is an actor in a new film, and so he takes stepson Manny (Rico Rodriguez) along with him to see the motion picture. Unfortunately, it turns out to be terrifying.Watch the video after the jump.
'Modern Family' - 'Benched' Recap
by Jason Hughes, posted Apr 15th 2010 3:43AM

(S01E20) I never got mortally embarrassed by my parents. I guess I always assumed that everyone else had them, so they understood. Or maybe I just saw too many television shows and movies about teenagers being horrified to be seen by other kids in the vicinity of those old people who brought them into the world. I don't know, though, if I could get even in quite the way that Claire did this week.
Hilarious but brutal.
On second thought, teenagers are horrible, manipulative, shallow little creatures. Claire did nothing wrong except maybe teach a little humility.
And the Nomination for Best Supporting Cast Goes to ... 'Modern Family'
by Allyssa Lee, posted Apr 12th 2010 4:12PM
Perhaps not as to disrupt the 'Family' ties, Deadline.com is reporting that the cast ABC's hit comedy 'Modern Family' will maintain a level playing field and all six of its adult stars will enter their Emmy submissions in the supporting categories. It was a move precipitated by the 'Family' patriarch Ed O'Neill, according to the report. Despite possessing the sitcom's biggest name when the series premiered last year, the former 'Married ... With Children' star felt that no one actor was bigger than another in this strong ensemble and opted to submit his name in the supporting category as if to prove it. The other adult regulars on the cast -- Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen, Sofia Vergara, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet -- are all expected to follow suit.
'Modern Family' - 'Game Changer' Recap
by Jason Hughes, posted Apr 1st 2010 4:21AM

(S01E19) One of the reasons that Cameron and Mitchell are so fun is that Cameron manages to be both the more flamboyant one, and he's clearly the more badass of the two, as well. Mitchell is always kind of whiny and too uptight with his little fists. Unfortunately, when his ineffectiveness as a tough guy leads him to think he's letting his daughter down as a father, Mitchell decides he needs to toughen up.
Phil's birthday celebration took up the bulk of the episode. Well, actually it was the build-up to his birthday celebration, but most of the events happened on that day. So how'd it go? Well, I'll say that I've had plenty of birthdays that went about as well as Phil's did.
I also taught my sister how to play chess, and she beat me ... that very game. That's right. Now, we were both still children, but come on! That's just ridiculous!
Jay Puts Mitchell in a Sleeper Hold on 'Modern Family' (VIDEO)
by Jane Boursaw, posted Apr 1st 2010 1:05AM
Mitchell just wanted to learn a few self defense moves to keep his family safe on 'Modern Family' (Wed., 9PM ET on ABC). That's what happens when you become a parent. But when he asked Jay to offer a few tips, the lesson quickly turned into a sleeper hold in a WrestleMania match. Mitchell and Cameron should probably just take Jay along any time they leave the house with the baby. If Mitchell ever wakes back up, that is.
