What You Missed Last Night: Leno on That Super Bowl Ad with Dave & Oprah

by Bob Sassone, posted Feb 9th 2010 1:29PM
I don't think there's anyone who has been harder on Jay Leno over the years than me. I'm a Letterman guy all the way, but there's something oddly...comforting about having Jay back at 11:35. And you know what? Seeing Jay talk about how that Super Bowl ad with David Letterman and Oprah came about is almost touching. It seems like Jay was truly moved by Letterman asking him to be in the ad, even if it was mostly just to do something funny and surprising.

Jay talked about it on the show last night. (For the record, Dave talked about it too, but just made a few jokes, including one about how the people who played Jay and Oprah in the ad did a great job).

What You Missed Last Night: Anna Wintour does not play baseball

by Bob Sassone, posted Aug 25th 2009 3:25PM
Vogue editor (and Devil Wears Prada subject) Anna Wintour was on The Late Show last night. She came out in her trademark sunglasses but didn't wear them for the interview (that would have been fantastic). After talking to Dave about her work and a new documentary about her, he talked to her about playing baseball with the next guest Mark Texiera. Sadly, she didn't want to. It would have been great to see Wintour shagging flies.

Paul McCartney visits The Late Show

by Bob Sassone, posted Jul 16th 2009 12:28PM
It's hard to believe but last night was the first time that Paul McCartney was on The Late Show with David Letterman.

As Letterman says in the clip below, they had been trying to get him for 15 years with no success. McCartney had been in the studio before, of course, as a member of The Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1964 (and once for MTV), but this was his first time on Dave's show. He talks about coming to America back then and what the other band members were like.

(Here's video of the performance from McCartney and his band.)

Bruce Willis stars in Die Hard 5: Intern Harder

by Bob Sassone, posted Jun 9th 2009 2:26PM
The Die Hard franchise has gone through a lot of scenarios, from a skyscraper being taken over to an airport being taken over to bombs being planted around a citiy to terrorists trying to kill the Apple guy, but I think I'd watch a movie about the adventures of a highly skilled late night talk show intern. From last night's Late Show:

Bill Murray to help Letterman celebrate 25 years

by Bob Sassone, posted Jan 29th 2007 3:01PM

Letterman, MurrayWow, I feel really old.

David Letterman celebrates 25 years in the talk show seat (it's actually more, if you count his short-lived morning show that no one seemed to love but me) on February 1, and Bill Murray will come back to the show to help him celebrate the milestone. Murray was Letterman's first guest on the old NBC show in 1982 and his first guest on the CBS show in 1993.

The other guest on the February 1 show will be LeBron James. I'm not sure how that ties into the special day, but there you go. I'd rather see a regular, like Amy Sedaris, Steve Martin, Charles Grodin, Regis Philbin, or Tom Hanks. Hopefully they'll be some clips.
