When boxes of latex gloves are in short supply, do you steal them from maternity, or let hospital admin deal with the demand?

"Two wrongs don't make a ... " Zoey argued with Akalitus. "Wanna bet?" her boss shot back. And from that pointed exchange came the theme for this week's wonderfully wry episode of 'Nurse Jackie.' In Jackie's dark and twisted world, two wrongs can sometimes make everything better.

Edie Falco Doesn't Think She's Funny, Weighs in on 'Sopranos' Movie (VIDEO)

Edie Falco Doesn't Think She's Funny, Weighs in on 'Sopranos' MovieEdie Falco of 'Nurse Jackie' has never thought of herself as being especially funny. This made her Emmy win for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series all the more surprising, she said on 'The Early Show' (weekdays, 7AM ET on CBS).

"I'd forgotten I was in the category because I was so convinced that I wasn't going to win," said Falco. "They totally, totally surprised me."

When Does a Comedy Stop Being a Comedy?

by Joel Keller, posted Sep 1st 2010 4:29PM
Edie Falco picks up an Emmy for 'Nurse Jackie' at the 2010 Emmy AwardsWhen Edie Falco picked up her Emmy for Outstanding Leading Actress in a Comedy Series for 'Nurse Jackie,' the first words out of her mouth reflected what pretty much everyone watching the ceremony was likely thinking:

"Oh, this is the most ridiculous thing that has ever, ever happened in the history of this lovely awards show," she said. "I'm not funny!"

Falco could have extended that notion to the rest of her show. Sure, 'Nurse Jackie' has its funny moments, and characters like Merritt Wever's Zoey and Peter Facinelli's Coop are there more or less for comic relief. But, for the most part, Falco is dead serious in the title role, and the theme of the show -- Jackie's addictions and how she juggles the various lies in her life -- takes the program to some pretty dark places.

So does that mean it's not a comedy anymore? The popular response is to say "yes," but I'm not so sure, especially after watching the first season of the show 'Louie.'

Edie Falco Takes Home Her Fourth Emmy

by Jean Bentley, posted Aug 29th 2010 10:43PM
Getty ImagesProving that she's a master at both comedy and drama, 'Nurse Jackie' Edie Falco took home the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy statuette at the 2010 Emmy Awards.

This is Falco's fourth Emmy. She previously won three Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series awards for her run on 'The Sopranos.' With her comedy prize, she becomes the third person ever (after Carroll O'Connor and Robert Young) -- and the first woman -- to win both comedy and drama awards.

'Nurse Jackie' was picked up for a third season in March and just finished airing its second season, but Falco's award was for the first season, which aired too late last summer to be eligible for the 2009 Emmys.

Fellow Showtime actress Toni Collette won in the same category last year for 'The United States of Tara.'

Emmy Picks: Best Lead Actress in a Comedy

by Joel Keller, posted Aug 24th 2010 11:25AM
The nominees for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy at the 2010 Emmys
With the Emmy awards less than a week away, I'm continuing to pick who I think should and who I think will win the major awards.

Yesterday, I discussed the Best Lead Actor in a Drama category. Today we look at the comedy side of the ledger and the Best Lead Actress in a Comedy category.

Nominees:
Toni Collette, 'United States of Tara'
Edie Falco, 'Nurse Jackie'
Tina Fey, '30 Rock'
Julia Louis-Dreyfus, 'The New Adventures of Old Christine'
Lea Michele, 'Glee'
Amy Poehler, 'Parks and Recreation'

Who will win:
When I saw that Edie Falco had submitted the pilot for 'Nurse Jackie,' it hit me that she didn't get nominated for the show last year. Since the pilot aired about a week after the 2010 eligibility period started, the Academy has had well over a year to ruminate over Falco's strong out-of-the-gate performance in that pilot, where the entire web of lies Jackie has set up get revealed in a quick 30 minutes. Considering her Emmy history -- seven nominations, three wins -- it's very easy to see Falco standing on stage with the Emmy this year.

Edie Falco Would Never Refuse a 'Sopranos' Movie

by Ryan McKee, posted Aug 16th 2010 1:28PM
For those who can't help but see Carmela Soprano while watching Edie Falco in 'Nurse Jackie,' all hope is not lost. 'The Sopranos' movie is a sweet dream for fans of the show, no matter what their thoughts were on the much-debated series finale. Unfortunately, like most dreams, the project seems bound to never materialize.

Although she admits the feature film is unlikely, Falco told The Hollywood Reporter that she's still interested.

"I would be fine if it never happened, but I would also love to go back there and see all the people I love again," she said." Who knows? I'm not the one making the decisions and I would jump at the chance to participate."

A Squabble, a Boob and a Punch on 'Nurse Jackie' (VIDEO)

by Aimee Deeken, posted May 18th 2010 6:44AM
A Fight on 'Nurse Jackie'It's just another day at the office on 'Nurse Jackie' (Mon., 10PM ET on SHO). In the middle of the latest ER crisis, Dr. Cooper needs an attitude adjustment, Jackie tells him.

[Spoiler alert.]

"My attitude? You're telling everybody to beat the crap out of each other to defend themselves!" The two start arguing, with Jackie saying he's abusive to nurses.

Zoey then interjects to revert his attention back to the patient. Coop's nervous disposition gets the better of him, and he grabs Zoey's breast.

Lenny then storms over and punches Dr. Cooper in the nose. Bad attitudes, nurse abuse, physical violence -- all within a few minutes if you work in this ER.

Thankfully, the Jackie Worship on 'Nurse Jackie' is Ending

by Joel Keller, posted Apr 19th 2010 7:03PM
Edie Falco in 'Nurse Jackie'One of the things that drove me nuts about the first season of Showtime's 'Nurse Jackie' was all the Jackie worship going on.

Yes, Edie Falco's character of the drug-addicted, adultering nurse Jackie Peyton was good at her job, and seems to have a much better bedside manner than most of the people working at All Saints Hospital. And, yes, the premise of the show, especially in that first season, was that she was somehow keeping all of her worlds separate and her lies in order, despite being in a highly stressful job.

But most of the juggling that Jackie was doing seemed pretty unrealistic -- especially in the romance department -- and I'm happy to see that some of those balls are finally falling to the ground.

Nurse Jackie, apple bongJackie's skills with an apple bong really came in handy when she taught a cancer patient how to smoke pot on 'Nurse Jackie' (Mon., 10PM ET on Showtime).

"You're gonna take a deep breath and hold it for a minute," she told him. And voila! He actually feels hungry. Yep, that's how it works. Nursing at its best.

There's a lot about 'Nurse Jackie' that reminds me of a ticking bomb. Eddie at the pharmacy. Gloria at the hospital. Cooper and Sam getting under Jackie's skin. She's like a tightly wound clock that could pop a spring at any point. Without any major drugs this episode, she seemed more tightly wound than ever. For more about Jackie and the pressure cooker she calls her life, read on.

'Nurse Jackie' Is Caught Doing Drugs (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Apr 6th 2010 3:45AM
'Nurse Jackie' Is Caught Doing DrugsNurse Jackie (played by Edie Falco) has a slight problem with drugs. She loves to abuse her position as a medical employee so she can illegally take Vicodin, Percocet, and -- as it turns out -- Adderall. On the latest episode of 'Nurse Jackie' (Mon., 10PM ET on Showtime), Jackie is caught by Kaitlyn, a young girl and friend of the family, while snorting a line of Adderall in her basement. "What's that thing you just did with the straw?" Kaitlyn asks, quite naturally. And Jackie says -- well, what would you say?

Jackie's answer to a myriad of questions could be summed up in one phrase: "It's a little complicated." Boy, is it ever. For Jackie, the roof is always just about to cave in, and this week was no different. However, by the end of the episode, the complications grew ever more gnarly with the appearance of a certain former friend, playing CandyLand with her family. (S02E02) When it comes to Jackie and her reliance on meds, what came first -- the stress or the drugs? You have to wonder. For those who think that Jackie is like House, there's one difference which is House had a serious injury that was the gateway to his Vicodin addiction. Jackie did allude to back problems last season, but now she just swipes pills and pops them like they're a crutch.

Anyway, this thought occurred as Jackie continues to be a mass of contradictions, especially to herself. This week was no different. More on that and the smoke alarms after the jump.

Jackie Explains Hospital Procedure on 'Nurse Jackie' (VIDEO)

by Jane Boursaw, posted Mar 30th 2010 3:30AM
Nurse Jackie, hospital procedure"Any unidentifiable drugs or substances go into the slot," says Jackie to the guy who found some of her pills on 'Nurse Jackie' (Mon., 10PM ET on SHO). "That's hospital procedure. Got it?"

And, of course, just as soon as he's out of sight, Jackie unlocks that little box and grabs those precious pills. That's HER procedure, got it?

Jackie kind of personifies the term pill-poppin' mama, doesn't she? At this point, she probably needs the pills to function, but on the other hand, how the heck does she function doing all those drugs?
